Living Dead's

Living Dead's
Chapter 64 - Curhatan The Vice-Captain

City, where the third team is.

The shopping area was empty, and the streets still maintained their original appearance when the apocalypse hit them. The bodies that the zombies had eaten had turned black and rotten, with flies buzzing around the decaying bones and flesh. The city has become a giant graveyard for those who lost their lives.

Rats ran across the road as the bus passed by, and dark human blood soaked the asphalt on the ground, then slowly seeped into the sewers.

In the corners and behind buildings, zombies would appear periodically, extending their rotten, formless hands towards the speeding bus.

The overcast and gray sky watched arrogantly the hell that was on this earth.

Wen Fan looked out the window, slowly speechless. Between his eyebrows, there was an undeniable sadness.

He suddenly realized that there was a pair of eyes watching him carefully from the direction of the driver's seat, right beside him. Turning his head instinctively, Wen Fan met Wei Qian's anxious gaze.

"... Hmm what's up?"

Wei Qian glanced at Wen Fan using the tip of her eyes as she drove the large bus. "Are you worried?"

Wen Fan nodded, and let out a long sigh. He leaned back into his chair, and slightly gnashed his broken leg, "I'm thinking about my family in the village."

Wei Qian remained silent, she did not say a word.

"My family... Haaah I don't know if they are currently okay. My family is very noisy, very different from me which is boring. And I'm also worried about my fiance's safety. You know, I've loved it for a long time. But I was so shy that I only dared to express my feelings recently. Tell me, why did this apocalypse just appear?" As he spoke, Wen Fan turned his gaze outside the window.

"Captain Xi was always joking and laughing all day, but most of the time, it was just a mask. When he was gloomy, it was extremely frightening, but he purposely hid himself and did not let anyone see him like that."

Wen Fan's tone was very sincere and devoted. As Wei Qian listened to her, she could argue that in Wen Fan's life, other than her family and fiance, she only acknowledged Xi Zihe.

Wen Fan was a gentle person, too gentle for a special forces army soldier. So, while in the hell-like military training ground, he experienced bullying. People belittled him and mocked him, saying that he would not enter the ranks of the special forces. However there was something very superior in Wen Fan that only Xi Zihe was aware of. That's persistence.

Wen Fan was very persistent and clung to his target even though he received ridicule from his fellow military colleagues. So when he graduated as one of the best graduates, Xi Zihe directly recruited him into his team.

"Captain Xi said that as a special forces soldier, we cannot sigh and look grim, because the expectations of civilians depend on us. Just one glance from us, their hearts would pound anxiously. If we keep talking about danger and the apocalypse, or things like this, they won't be able to endure it, and they'll prefer to kill themselves."

"Haw..." Wen Fan still could not help but sigh deeply. "However, I still can't stop wondering why this should happen to our generation? Why are we so fucking?"

Wen Fan's eyes were unfocused, his body slumped helplessly on top of the passenger seat. With her neck falling to the side, she looked like a jelly that had already melted from being exposed to the heat.

Wei Qian looked pensive. A moment later, he leaned over and picked up something from the cardboard under his chair using one hand. He grabbed a can of high-calcium milk out of the cardboard, and quietly handed it to Wen Fan.

"Drink this, so that your broken bone injuries heal quickly."

"Hmm?" Wen Fan was very surprised and even slightly moved. He grabbed the can and laughed, "Alright, I'll take it. If there was Xiao Fei here, he would have already drooled..."

Wen Fan laughed again as he recalled the expression Feifei always wore when he saw sweet or milk food. To all of them, Feifei was like a fresh breeze amidst this hell-like chaos.

Wei Qian pondered for a moment, then asked, "What do you think of Captain Xi when he was his vice-captain?"

Wen Fan put on a sad expression. "Hm.. How should I say this. Although Captain Xi often nags and makes people want to hit the back of his head, we still miss his scolding sometimes, especially at times like these."

Xi Zihe was a strict person, so that if any of his team members did not do something according to his orders, he would reprimand him at length, until it was like someone who was nagging. But Xi Zihe loved and cherished every member of his team. He always looked after them like his own family. Such a person, would definitely be respected by any of his fellow troops.

Wen Fan smiled wryly. He wanted to share the burden with Xi Zihe, as he was his vice-captain. However, seeing her state like this, which was just like a burden, Wen Fan could only laugh at herself.

I am so useless, Wen Fan thought.

As Wen Fan was immersed in his complicated thoughts, he heard Wei Qian's voice.

"Not only Captain Xi, I think you're also very reliable, Fan-ge."

"Hmm?" Wen Fan turned his gaze towards Wei Qian. Wei Qian was observing the road with a serious expression.

Wei Qian continued, "It was Captain Xi who planned and decided all things, but isn't it you who took care of things for things to go smoothly?"

Wei Qian was not blind. Wen Fan was indeed very reliable. He was meticulous, and all of his actions were very organized.

Wei Qian casually patched up, "You are no less formidable than Captain Xi. Even I praise you." Wei Qian laughed at the end of the sentence.

Who does not know that Shen Yuan is so stingy about praise. But such a person praised Wen Fan.

"Wen Fan is a smart guy. If there's no Xi Zihe, the person you should follow next isn't me, but him."

Wei Qian recalled the sentence that was thrown from Shen Yuan's mouth as they were about to fight the first special-enabled zombie they encountered.

Wen Fan was stunned when he heard the words from Wei Qian. He had no idea that others looked up to him. Yet for some reason when he heard those words, the burden that was in his heart was slightly lifted.

Wei Qian again added a sentence that left him completely speechless. "You're not alone. So there's no need for you to do everything yourself, Fan-ge. You don't have to think no."

Wen Fan was very touched. Then he had just recalled Wei Qian's age.

23 years.

Very young, but more able to control his emotions. For a moment Wen Fan became ashamed of himself.

After thinking for a moment, Wen Fan finally said, "I understand. Next, I'll share the task with the others."

Wen Fan slowly sat relaxed in his chair, and thought nothing more.
