Chapter 14 - Towards the Protection Center

Xi Zihe never put on a stupid face, he was always calm and dignified. Years in the military have trained him mentally to always remain calm in all conditions. Yet now Xi Zihe put on a foolish face and looked at Shen Yuan with a look of horror.

His eyes were wide open, his mouth repeatedly opened and closed, repeatedly wanting to say something but undoing his intentions.

Finally after a while, his rationality returned, he cleared his throat, "When has that been?"

At first he did not believe that the person in front of him could survive passing through a city full of zombies, even by bringing his daughter. Now he looked more and more at Shen Yuan's face in disbelief after knowing that he was still carrying around his daughter who had been bitten by zombies.

Shen Yuan replied calmly, "It has been six hours since he was bitten."

Xi Zihe's eyes widened even further, six hours?!

"Now it's up to you. You still want to take us or not."

Shen Yuan looked at Xi Zihe, waiting for a decision from him. Casually Shen Yuan leaned against the body of the car, raising his chin to look at the change in expression on Xi Zihe's face.

Shen Yuan did not expect much, rather than risking bringing in people who would turn into zombies at any time, it was safer for him to leave him and Feifei, the 'coincidental' stranger to save him.

However Shen Yuan did not know that Xi Zihe's thoughts were proceeding quickly.

Six hours? But not infected yet?

Does that little girl naturally have antibodies to fight this zombie virus?

Xi Zihe's expression was vague, like he was thinking hard. After a few minutes he finally opened his mouth

Thirty minutes later, inside the armored vehicle.

"In the early days of the first person infected with the virus, experts thought they had rabies and took him to a hospital for investigation. But a zombie outbreak broke out in the hospital until the hospital was full of these zombies." Xi Zihe's voice rang out among the shaking of the vehicle.

"Their body fluids are highly toxic, after being bitten, the percentage of infected and deaths is 100%, followed by mutations into full-blown zombies. Although, there are also rare cases."

Xi Zihe turned his gaze towards the little girl wrapped in a blanket on Shen Yuan's lap, until now she was still unconscious.

"The rate of mutation varies from one to another. By far, the fastest mutation is 40 seconds, and the slowest is about three full hours. So your daughter's condition, it's a new thing."

Shen Yuan looked up and asked, "Where did this object of your observation come from?"

Xi Zihe's gaze turned dark and sad, with a whisper he replied, "From the members of our squad. Many of our brothers have fallen."

The vehicle became quiet and gloomy. About eight people sat face to face inside the armored vehicle, they lowered their heads, either thinking about what. There was a constant shaking inside the vehicle when they hit the zombies blocking the road.

Xi Zihe's expression instantly became strange, "Our mission... Aihs... I'm not sure anymore. Maybe when I get back to the military base I'll get a strict punishment."

Shen Yuan looked at him with a puzzled face. From the front came the voice of Wen Fan driving, "We're looking for someone."

Shen Yuan, "Someone?"

Xi Zihe explained, "Right. Someone named Shen Yuan from N."

Shen Yuan, the man sought, "........."

Xi Zihe drank a few sips of water, before continuing, "Our initial mission is to look for this person. But on the way to N city, we hit a wave of zombies, so our mission has to be changed on the spot. Many civilians are still alive among this zombie outbreak, we cannot ignore them, so the priority of our mission is shifting. From looking for someone to saving civilians. But as you can see, we're stuck in this fucking town and out of ammo and rations."

Xi Zihe sighed, "We also don't know if that person is still alive or not. Maybe he's been eaten by zombies or he's mutated into zombies."

Shen Yuan who was still sitting next to him healthily, ".........."

Doubtfully Shen Yuan asked, "Why are you guys looking for this guy?"

Xi Zihe shrugged, "We only accept missions from superiors. It's said this guy had something to do with the outbreak of the zombie virus."

Shen Yuan only glanced at him a glance then looked under the vehicle that was shaking seriously, her lips were pulled up to form a straight line, her mind was in a mess.

Shen Yuan who initially wanted to admit that he was the one named 'Shen Yuan' also disengaged his intentions. He still did not know why this military member was looking for him. He doesn't want to risk it. Because the current state of Feifei is not good. If they made a suspicious move, they could have been shot dead on the spot.

"You want to smoke?" Xi Zihe's voice brought him back to reality. He took out a cigarette from inside his military chest pocket, and pointed it at him.

"No, thanks. I stopped for a long time." Shen Yuan signaled towards her daughter. Xi Zihe instantly understood. He becomes hesitant to light his cigarette, however cigarette smoke is not good for children. Finally he just played the cigarette on his fingers covered in scorched anti-heat gloves, and sat back quietly.

"Captain, come! The road is updated!" From the front Wen Fan shouted out loud.

Xi Zihe stood up, and walked towards beside Wen Fan. Discuss something for a while before returning to the back compartment with a gear bag.

He dug up the bag and exclaimed, "This journey will not be easy. According to our current speed, it took us two hours to reach the underground protection center. But we don't know how many zombie hordes are nearby. You should sleep now to replenish your labor and then work hard like a horse! Once the time comes, I'll go upstairs and clean up the zombies along the way with a machine gun. You're also master Shen better now hurry up and sleep."

After saying that, Xi Zihe sat down firmly before starting to seriously assemble his machine gun.

Shen Yuan was not feeling any more uneasy. He carried the still unconscious Feifei into the front compartment, greeted Wen Fan who was driving and then began to sit comfortably beside him.

He started taking fever-lowering drugs that he had already taken at the pharmacy. He made Feifei's head slightly look up, then started pouring out a spoonful of medicinal liquid. Feifei swallowed it unconsciously.

After things calmed down, Shen Yuan began to feel tired, and he involuntarily fell asleep.
