Chapter 10 - Bites

Feifei covered both his ears while bowing in the passenger seat, he could feel the car slightly shaking. When the explosion was over, he turned his head and looked in astonishment at the events behind him.

The fire was still burning wildly, and black smoke rose into the air. As for the zombies, they had already been burnt to a scorch.

Feifei then turned his head towards his father. His father still had a gun in his right hand. Now he knows that's what his father took from the police car.

With a gaping mouth Feifei said, "Very cool..."

"What?"

"Dad is so cool!"

Shen Yuan did not know whether to cry or laugh. Now he can't say that he was just trying to use the gun, even when he shot earlier he almost missed. Because it's been years since he last used a gun.

Shen Yuan could only awkwardly let out a coughing sound.

"Ehem, let's continue the journey."

While Feifei next to him was still showing an astonished expression, Shen Yuan temple did not see him.

A current father looks like a mountain in front of his son. Strong, great, and almighty.

Shen Yuan nodded in agreement to his own statement.

All day long the sun did not show its rays so that the ground became cold and moist, the bustling city a few days ago was now deserted like a city abandoned for many years.

No humans passing by, the shadow of tall buildings so add to the impression of foreign and haunted.

In the distance was a disjointed moaning sound, which did not sound like a human voice. The choked roar seemed to come from the base of the throat, as if whatever it was had not been drinking for days.

Suddenly a creature came out from a dark, narrow alley. The figure looks like a grown man, his clothes that say 'I LOVE JAPAN' already look dirty, he looks like he has rolled on the streets. He walked towards the middle of the highway. His legs formed a strange angle, yet as if he did not feel any pain, he continued walking.

From far away there was the sound of the car engine. It seemed like he became interested in the voice, his dashed moans turned into roars. He roared towards the speeding car, but a split second later he had already turned into pieces of meat due to being crushed by the wheels of the car.

Inside the car, Shen Yuan's cold face was seen through the rearview mirror. Beside him, Shen Feifei was calmly twirling the car radio channels, as if not caring about what his father had just hit.

Shen Yuan frowned unhappily at the bloodstain that was on the end of the windshield of the car. I don't know how many zombies he hit while driving, but he's still not used to it.

"Dad, this radio doesn't work."

Feifei had already played around many times yet, there was no signal on the radio. All that was heard was a rustling sound.

Shen Yuan nodded, "There is no need to search anymore."

There is no electricity, no telephone signal, and no radio signal, they are isolated from the world.

After driving all day, at midnight they finally reached Feifei's grandfather and grandmother's house. Their house is in a residential complex. After seeing how things were going inside the city, Shen Yuan actually had no confidence that the two old men were still around.

Shen Yuan still stayed inside the car and looked towards the mansion. The house was dark, with no signs of life. When entering the housing complex, he saw no people or signs of zombie attacks. So Shen Yuan estimated that these people had already fled to a safer place.

"Dad, just take a look. Who knows, Grandpa and Grandma are still there."

Shen Yuan thought about it for a while, this Jiang family home does have a basement. It was possible that the two old men were still hiding down there.

He finally decided to check it out. But he would enter by himself, he did not want to take the risk of taking Feifei, because he did not know what awaited him in there.

"Feifei, you wait here for a moment. I'm going inside."

Feifei nodded, "Okay, dad."

Shen Yuan added, "Lock the car door when you're out. When you see a zombie from afar, press its horn. Dad will be here soon. Understood?"

Feifei nodded again. After which, Shen Yuan picked up his gun and stepped towards the house. Before entering, Shen Yuan took the time to look at Feifei again. Seeing him obediently still in the car, Shen Yuan did not hesitate anymore.

Shen Yuan turned on the flashlight, to give her illumination. After seeing the inside of the house that was still fine, Shen Yuan shouted.

"Dad! Mama! Are you guys still here?"

His voice was only greeted by silence.

Shen Yuan went deeper. Familiarly he walked towards the stairs leading to the underground, in front of him was the door leading to the basement. Shen Yuan prepared his gun, before he pushed the door slowly. The door opened, but all that greeted him was darkness.

There's no one there.

After Shen Yuan got out of the car Feifei remained obediently silent in the car. Not forgetting he locked the door as his father had ordered.

Bored, Feifei looked at the scenery around him. There are only dark houses without inhabitants.

Feifei was still looking around before his eyes saw a figure. I don't know since when there was a little girl who was crouching on the edge of the flowerbed. The little girl seemed to be three years old. The little girl looked at Feifei who was in the car without blinking with her gray eyes, she had already turned into a zombie.

Seeing that he was still very small yet had already turned into a zombie, Feifei felt that he was very pitiful. A feeling of pity grew in Feifei's heart.

Seeing that he was still motionless and just squatting there, Feifei became curious.

He opened the car door slowly, opening a small crack, yet the little zombie was still motionless. Feifei took out one leg, the zombie still did not move anymore. Maybe because he was a little zombie it didn't have the courage to attack him. Finally Feifei got out of the car, slowly approaching him curiously.

The moment Shen Yuan walked out of the Jiang family home, her heart stopped beating. He saw Feifei approaching the crouching zombies.

Shen Yuan loudly shouted, "Feifei don't approach him!"

But it's too late. The zombie crawled quickly and bit Feifei's left calf!

"Aarr"

"FEY-FEE!"

Shen Yuan ran as hard as he could and shot the little zombie to death.

Right before his eyes, he saw his daughter being bitten by a zombie!
