Chapter 41 - Anomalies

The corner of Xi Zihe's mouth twitched a few times as he looked at the group of zombies that had come closer through his binoculars.

"So, this is what you mean by 'big zombies'?"

Xi Zihe pointed with his trembling index finger like holding back a laugh at the zombie leader who was heading to the dormitory.

In his brain, he thought that the zombie was a large-bodied zombie, with many strong muscles. But who would have thought that came was not a fighting zombie as expected but a middle-aged male zombie who seemed to be obese during life.

"Captain, it's a big body." Li Yan felt that there was nothing wrong with his report.

"Uh... That's right..." Xi Zihe did not know how to respond, as it was true that he had misinterpreted.

Xi Zihe turned his gaze on the zombie again. The zombie walked very slowly, dragging its body fat forward. Every step he took looked so heavy, that the fat on his body seemed to vibrate every time he took a step.

Xi Zihe exhaled in frustration. Strange enough to see zombies that still have body fat, usually the zombies they meet are all thin.

"Begging Lu Lin and Wen Fan to deal with those large-bodied zombies. Then assign Yao Yue to lead a small team to clean up the zombies behind him." Xi Zihe said to Yang Ruisi who was standing behind him with a walkie talkie.

His team only had two walkie talkies left, other than Xi Zihe only Wen Fan had them.

"What about me?" Li Yan's voice rang out through the wind on the roof.

"You stay here and watch the situation. If you see anyone getting hurt, shoot from here."

Li Yan nodded obediently, "I understand."

Dark clouds covered the moonlight in the night sky, and the distant wind carried periodic sad howls.

Below, Wen Fan announced the presence of a group of zombies approaching from the North, which was more in number than yesterday.

The crowd was stunned and looked at each other.

Wen Fan did not give them time to panic. In an instant he had already given a clear set of instructions.

"Everyone goes to the North corner, and strengthen the wire fence!"

"Don't panic, do it according to the time of the exercise!"

Wen Fan shouted towards the crowd of people who had panicked from seeing more zombie groups than the previous days.

"Just a few tens more than yesterday. All of them! Don't panic! We can definitely hold on!"

Those who had survived since at the shelter did not disappoint Wen Fan. After a moment of confusion, everyone quickly began to act. They took axes, metal rods, pointed wood, and other tools they could find in the factory. After that they rushed towards the North, where the zombie group came.

Wen Fan then turned towards the two boys who were currently standing near the wall.

"Xiao Zhao, take care of Feifei. Jagan until you get carried away with this crowd." Wen Fan said seriously. In the midst of this riot, there would be no time to pay attention to them.

"Don't worry uncle. I get it." He Zhao replied calmly, different from the first time he was scared when he saw the zombies.

Wen Fan smiled and rubbed the heads of the two before going towards the frontline.

"Dad! Take it and spread the explosives!"

Xi Zihe dropped the sentence before hurriedly climbing onto the roof again after picking up the weapon.

Shen Yuan could only feel frustrated, he had not had time to look for Feifei and now he had to take out the explosives.

Shen Yuan dashed towards the north, passing through the crowd of people forming human barricades and exiting the factory dorm area. Shen Yuan started throwing Nitrocellulose along the side of the road, forming a defensive line.

Shen Yuan looked at Yao Yue who was coming from the direction of the warehouse. He threw an assault rifle at him, which Shen Yuan quickly caught.

Shen Yuan followed behind Yao Yue, unexpectedly, Yao Yue ran very fast even carrying that heavy rifle. They turned through a narrow path before being greeted with a herd of zombies.

Xi Zihe's strategy was to surround the zombies from the front and back. The ones overcoming the zombie leader in front were Wen Fan and Lu Lin. While the back was led by Yao Yue.

Shen Yuan indiscriminately aimed his rifle at the zombies. The zombies around him began to realize his whereabouts, then began to approach them. The sound of dragged legs and the moans of zombies, was heard between the roar of gunfire.

"Sorry, I just arrived!" Song Yi's voice came from behind her.

Shen Yuan saw him raising his rifle and started shooting at the zombies accurately.

"Keep firing!" Yao Yue's voice sounded shrill as he took the lead to continue advancing, and shot towards the zombies.

The number of zombies slowly dwindled, and vaguely, Shen Yuan could see the leader of the zombies who had the most body.

Suddenly a cold feeling crept through his spine. This is a bad feeling.

Are the zombies beginning to think?

Cold sweat started to form on his forehead. How could the zombies think of leading the other zombie herd and attacking the human habitation?

Shen Yuan gulped with difficulty, how fast did they evolve?

"Dad, watch!"

Yao Yue's voice resuscitated him. Shen Yuan felt a hot breath right at his neck. As he was carried away in thought, a zombie managed to approach him.

"Damn!"

Shen Yuan was about to turn around, yet a bullet had knocked the zombie out faster than him.

Shen Yuan looked at the direction where the bullet was coming from. On the roof of the dormitory, he could see the faint shadow of someone laying on the roof, it was Li Yan.

Shen Yuan nodded in gratitude, he was sure Li Yan would have seen it.

Song Yi and Yao Yue simultaneously shouted towards him, "Dad! Are you all right?"

Shen Yuan exhaled for a moment, before saying, "I'm fine. Let's continue!"

They started to move forward slowly but surely.

"Damn! What's with these zombies?!" Song Yi's voice made Shen Yuan look back, where she was.

Shen Yuan's eyes widened in disbelief. Behind them, new zombies began to appear and surrounded them.

Now, they're the ones trapped by zombies!
