I woke up and the first thing I heard was the sound of a clock ticking on the wall. I opened my eyes and realized that the sunlight was no longer shining outside the window. It's already night time.
I moved my body a little and felt a big hand over my stomach. I looked over and found Jon sleeping next to me. I smiled, then confirmed the bangs of her hair that covered her eyes. This black-haired handsome guy wasn't even distracted by my touch. So I got up from the couch and quietly put my park jacket back on.
I grunt. My jacket still has a little bit of mud stains. Then I tiptoed and headed to the door that led to the toilet. Once there, I opened the faucet and let the water run, soaking my whole body and hair.
Jon's apartment is neat. The toilet is simple, and personal items such as bath soap and towels have been placed in the closet. I'm used to entering Jon's apartment. Actually my apartment room is just opposite to her. But I prefer to spend time with him.
After cleaning my body, I put my shabby shirt back on, then reached into my pocket to look for my phone. My hand came to a halt when I realized the rectangular-shaped object was not in my pants pocket.
Where's my cellphone?! I immediately panicked, and searched my phone on the sofa where Jon was. However, that important thing just disappeared. I finally got out of Jon's room quietly and used the elevator to get downstairs.
"It must have fallen" I said to myself. "Maybe Stef knows where."
I just realized it was 1am when the elevator finally opened and I saw a wall clock in the hallway. The hallway of the apartment seemed silent and dark, although small lights illuminated it. I walked quickly, and was finally met by the night wind as I exited the building.
Stef lives in a complex near my apartment. The three of us deliberately chose a residence adjacent to Rosemary's office building, the office where Jon and Stef worked that I entered a few hours ago. Both of my friends are already working as office interns, while I should still be in school.
In this city of Ratterdam, the lives of its people are unique and different. We are given the freedom to attend school or work at any time, not limited by age or personal data. Most teenagers my age are still in school, the main goal is to mature and be established in getting a job. While me...
"Poor" I whispered to myself. My parents are gone, Grandma's the only family I'm in. I was blessed with brown curls, and black eyes. My skin is clean white, different from Jon who has a mature brown skin color. Despite this, Jon is the most handsome man I've ever seen.
I knocked on Stef's door. I didn't expect the door to open because it's still midnight. My heart almost popped out when the door opened hard. The girl was wearing a face mask. Her blond hair was carried upwards, and her hand was holding a bowl of strawberries.
"Claras?"
"Stef! Thank goodness you slept!" I immediately broke into his house. "By the way, didn't you see my phone?"
"Your phone?" Stef closed the door and put a strawberry in his mouth. "My shoeet, not really. When was the last time you held your phone?"
"Silence, calm." Stef immediately put his bowl on the table. "I'll help you get married." He immediately grabbed his coat hanging on the hanger, then pulled me out of the house.
For almost an hour, we've been circling the highway on Stef's motorbike. I narrowed my eyes, trying to focus. But over time, I gave up.
"Stef, I think you are, really" I said limp as we leaned against the park bench. My friend immediately looked. "meaning?"
"I'm really fucking again" I continued. "First time late wake up. Both interviews were not accepted, all three of my phones were said even though the price was not cheap." I buried my head in my lap. "Belom again later if Grandma calls. What do I have to answer to him if he asks about his interview?"
Stef patted my shoulder. "Persis as I said before, just calm down. You can stay with other publishers."
I looked at him in disbelief. "That's not easy"
"But your story is pretty famous, right? It must be easy. In fact I'm confused why there's still no publisher who nyamperin you." Stef turned his gaze toward the empty highway. "I'm the same as Jon. We'll keep pushing."
Without realizing it, a smile spread across my face. "What?" Ask Stef wonder. "Uuu, awed bangett!" I hugged my friend right away. "Hey!" Stef tried to shake my hand, but he kept laughing. "Gausah lebai that is!"
"Haha, why?" I got up and was about to leave the garden when I heard something. Familiar phone ringing sound.
"Stef, aren't you?" Without a cue, my friend immediately stood up straight and followed the source of the voice. I followed him from behind. Before long, the ringing sound came back. I gasped as I saw the glare from my phone buried in the ground between the trees.
"My phone!" I hurriedly grabbed it. My phone got dirty with the ground. "Clara, what's the matter with your phone? How can you be buried in the garden?" Ask Stef to be confused. However, I did not immediately answer his question when I saw the name that appeared on my phone screen.
"What's wrong?" Stef peeked over my shoulder. "grandmother..." Answer disappointed. "What am I supposed to say, Stef?" My fingers tremble. "I don't want to go back to that village." Suddenly the shadow of memory came back to my mind. My unhappy childhood memories, and my collection of memories of things I don't want to remember at all.
"I'm scared, Stef," I replied before Grandma called me again.
