Chapter 36: Field Test (Part 4)

Mefras returned to the village with the carcass of a bear on his shoulder and the merchant he found his name Zorrel at his waist, he tried to walk with Zorrel but was impatient and carried Zorrel away to the city gate.

While running Mefras activates one of his new features to communicate with Verite, Mefras tells Verite about the monsters he has exterminated, the merchants he finds and the robbers who may be roaming near the city.

****Verite POV****

Verite entered the lotus village after Mefras went to hunt down the monsters that their adventurer guild was targeting.

The lotus village has now changed enough, though, the village now had more buildings to accommodate the nomads or merchants passing through the village and Duke Bloome also added his own private army to keep the village safe.

That is the thing to enter will be because this village has become a checkpoint before entering the azalea city where it is important to see if people carry dangerous goods.

“Verite, you're coming!” A brown haired girl came and greeted him

“Iya, I want to do my magic test and when I see a monster hunting mission near this village I think I can all visit here.” Verite explained his arrival.

“Speaking about monsters..” Datura quieted down before continuing. “You know, I heard rumors about bandits from the person who came from the village next door.” Datura says.

“Bandits?” Verite asked before realizing there were eyes watching him. “Datura can we talk in a more private place?” Verite asked, his eyes looking at Datura seriously.

“Good.” Datura saw Verite's serious sight bringing him an inn for newly built hikers.

“I'll take room number nine.” Tell Datura to the receptionist and go straight to the room she showed me.

“What do you want to talk about Verite?” Datura asked after they entered.

“About that bandit, I felt an uneasy look as we spoke, did any suspicious person come here?” Verite asked, it might just be a coincidence but it never hurts to be careful.

“On the bandits yes..” Datura stroked her chin, “I only heard rumors about them so I don't know the full story, what I heard was a group of violent bandits trailing the passersby who had a small group and finishing them off in the middle of the street, they have never been seen in one place so I think they at least always move places and they were last seen in the village near this lotus village.” Datura told me the rumors she heard.

“Is there anyone suspicious?” Verite asked.

“I don't know if this is suspicious but there is someone who came to this village and just saw look, I think he also noticed you when we spoke earlier.” Say Datura.

“So that person I think noticed me yes..”It looks like they found more trouble than a monster.

“Do I have to tell the Verite guards?” Datura asked.

Verite shook her head. “We still don't know if that person is the same person, it's possible that he is just a strange person and has nothing to do with the bandit group.” Verite did not want to directly accuse Mefras of showing many lives destroyed because people just pointed fingers.

“So what will you do?” Datura asked.

“I'll pay attention to the person and maybe lure him to get himself out if it's true that person is a bandit.” Verite replied, maybe he should make himself as bait and lure the bandit group.

‘Verite? You busy?’ Verite heard Mefras' voice, it seemed like the mode of communication Verite entered was working fine.

‘Iya, I'm with Datura now, there's something you want to say?’ Verite asked.

‘Yes, I have good news and bad news. The good news is I've exterminated the monster and I'm on my way to the village and the bad news is I found someone and we may have a criminal roaming near the village.’ Mefras told me the news.

‘Alright, wait outside, do not enter, I will meet you at the gate.’ Verite told Mefras.

“What's Verite, you look serious.” Datura asked.

“It seems like there is a bandit group hanging around here, “Verite peeked out room door number nine and saw someone watching her. “Looks like that guy is still watching us, you take care of him, I'll be back in a minute.” Verite walked to the room window and climbed out. 

“Quite make sure he is still watching this room, I will be back soon.” Datura just nodded.

Mefras released the man from his grasp and the bespectacled man immediately ran over and vomited out his entire entrails at the bottom of a nearby tree.

“The person..?”

“He Zorrel, a merchant who was attacked by bandits, I will let him explain the details to you.” Mefras saw only the man who emptied his bowels.

Zorrel finally finished taking out his dinner and he returned to approach Verite and Mefras.

“Sorry you have to see that,” Zorrel clean his glasses, “My name is zorrel and I am a merchant from Sunflow city. You are the controller of this construct?” Zorrel introduced himself.

“Yes, I'm Verite Bloome, can you tell me what happened?”Verite asked.

“Verite Bloome?” Zorrel asked, as if he could not believe what he had heard. “Verite Bloome who invented that cooling machine?”

“Iya? you heard about me?” Verite asked, Verite knew his name was already known but until the merchant from out of town could figure out his name it gave Verite a strange feeling.

“Iya... I actually came here to see your discovery and maybe show you my stuff but no problem anymore, I already lost all my stuff when the robbers were chasing me.” Zorrel said it looks like he wants to try his luck with Verite's invention.

Unfortunately if he wants to do business with Verite he has to get past Verite first.

“You can tell me about your experience with the robber? We may be able to return your lost items.” Verite asked Zorrel for details of the previous night's events.

“Good.” Zorrel nodded and began to explain the incident.

“Wow, you are unlucky.” Say Verite.

“Iya..” His shoulders are down.

“So you can recognize those robbers huh?” Verite asked to be sure.

Zorrel nodded, I still remember their faces.

“Alright, come with me. Mefras you wait outside, check the area around you, if you want to enter use the 'it' feature'." Verite gave Mefras instructions and brought Zorrel into the village.

****

“Verite you back.” Datura greeted him as Verite walked into room number nine through the window, she took Zorrel with her.

“Iya, and I brought someone extra.” Verite explained the situation. “Is he still watching this room?”

Datura.

“Alright, Zorrel you peek through that door, is the person watching this room one of the bandits chasing you.”

Zorrel peeked through the opening of the door and came back again. “Yes, I'm sure, this guy was one of the bandits who chased me and in recall I think I've seen this guy in the village I came to before.”  Zorrel confirmed what he saw and it seemed like this person had also chosen Zorrel as the target when he reached the village he had been staying in earlier.

this made Verite smile, this was much easier than looking for him one by one.

“Datura.” Verite called.

“Iya Verite?”

“I want you to help me trap criminals.”
