Chapter 26: Side Effects

“Masalah... Yes you already know what problem this village is experiencing, it was written on the request letter we sent.” The village chief's grandmother said.

“Iya,” Helian nodded, “We already know this village has a problem about raging wild boars but what I want to ask is the details of this problem, like how many wild boars are attacking this village garden and is there anything we should know before we go to fight that boar.” Inquire about the details of this mission.

“Soal it yes..” Grandma The village head held back a little, “You can ask with the person who witnessed the attack itself.” The village chief replied.

He clapped his hands and entered an easy girl who looked older than the girl who had ushered them here, she had reddish-brown hair tied up on her shoulders.

“This is Datura, he is the farm boy who was attacked by that boar.” The village chief looked at Datura, “Please take them to your father, they want to know the detailed details of how your father got hurt.” He ruled the girl.

“Alright,” He replied, “Follow me.” The girl faced Helian before coming out.

Helian wakes up and begins to follow the girl, Verite and Regulus also wake up and do the same thing, not long they walk them up to a house that is the same as any other house.

The girl named Datura was marking that they could enter, so they entered before the girl herself caught up inside.

Inside the house did not have much stuff, only a bed and a fireplace in the middle of the room, on top of the bed was a grown man lying down limply, his body was wrapped in bandages and his right hand was refuted with ties, it seemed like he broke his hand in the attack.

“Dad, these are the people of the adventurer guild, they want to talk about the boar attack.” Datura woke up her father.

“...Ah.” The man got up from his bed and took a sitting position, his eyes watching the Verite group as it measured their abilities.

“You are still children...” He said, “Are you really members of the adventurer guild?” She asked.

“I understand your feelings, but we are indeed members of the adventurer guild, at least two of us are members.” Helian replied, whispering her last sentence.

Verite was reminded that he was not a member of the adventurer guild, he only came here because he had his name on the registration list…

“We have experience fighting with monsters so you don't have to worry.” Helian Say.

“If you say that I still can't help but worry when I see a child who is the age of my daughter go to fight an animal that makes a body crumble like this,” He pointed at his body that was full of wounds. “So what do you want to ask?”

“How many wild boars are chasing you?” Helian began to ask.

“Only one.” He replied, “But its size is much bigger than an ordinary wild boar, the pig is almost bigger than a human, he easily broke my spear and destroyed my body… I'm sure if he hadn't been distracted with vegetables in the garden and eaten them, letting me hide in the dark of the night then I wouldn't be here right now.” 

“Are you sure you can fight that boar?” She asked.

‘It looks like he still doesn't believe us.” Verite thought.

‘I don't blame him, which adult would let a child who was his daughter's age fight an animal that destroyed his body so easily? I myself would feel doubt if I did not see the ability you guys have.’ Mefras.

‘Yes, I think you're right.’

“Quietly, we have the ability to use Thaumaturgy, we are sure we will be able to win against a boar.” Helian tried to calm down, “From what you said I took this pig attacked at night and ate this village garden?” Helian asked.

“True, he attacked at night and ate the contents of the garden.” Said it.

Datura nodded, “Follow me.” He started to go out.

Helian thanked the father and went to follow him, Regulus and Verite once again did the same.

While walking Verite watched the sun descend and it began to darken, just then Mefras asked;

‘Indeed a wild boar as big as a normal human in this world Verite?’

‘I... don't know,” Verite replied, ‘Let me ask with Regulus.” Verite.

“Hey regulus.” Verite called.

“Iya Verite?” 

“Indeed wild boar as big as a normal human huh?” Verite asked.

“Hmmm...” Regulus stroking his chin, “If you say normal I don't? But it is a thing that happens quite often we have a record that it really happened.” He answers.

“So this is not a step thing?” Verite asked.

“At the very least this happens quite often Azalea city adventurer guild gets this request about once every three months.” Regulus answered.

“Then do we know how this can happen?” Verite asked again, if this happens quite often several times a year maybe they already know the reason.

“Ah, if the answer is easy.” Regulus says, “When animals are in nature sometimes they can absorb the natural mana that is around them and sometimes the exposure by which it causes a mutation in their body, make them stronger and bigger than usual.” Regulus explains how animals can become such giants.

‘Wait a minute.. If animals can become giants due to exposure to Where what about humans, does using Thaumaturgy come with great risks?’ Mefras started asking questions that made Verite worried.

“Then what about us?” Verite asked.

“What do you mean by us?” Regulus did not seem to understand what Verite was asking.

“You know, if an animal can change its body because it sucks mana out of exposure to a bagaima with us, Thamaturgist who uses mana like breathing with water?” Verite explained the question. 

“Ah... If you have nothing to worry about.” Say regulus. “There are cases of someone thaumaturgist having a mutation when exposed to Mana, but the side effects that occur are positive effects, such as being looking youthful or your hair color changing color.” Tell Regulus before continuing, “That happened to my eyes.” He pointed at his eyes that were shining golden yellow.

‘It seems like it is indeed a side effect yes.’ Mefras says.

‘But there seems to be no harmful effects.’ Say Verite.

‘No harmful effects recorded, I remember in my world heart disease was only recorded in the medical world three hundred years after a painter discovered it first.’ 

‘A painter? What is a painter's relationship with heart disease?’ Verite asked, but before Mefras could answer Datura cut off their conversation.

“We're here.” The village girl said.
