The Voice On The Rival's Head
Chapter 29: Mission Completed

Seeing what she was doing Verite woke up and dusted off her clothes, she felt really tired, adrenaline left her body, she saw what was left of the Mefras construct and took it.

‘I think we need to create a new body for me.’ Mefras.

‘You okay what Mefras?’ Verite asked, Mefras not only jumped into the face of a monster much larger than him but also fell victim to Verite's attack.

‘Yes, the construct is only my temporary body, if the construct is destroyed I will return to your body.’ Mefras said, ‘I will miss the body of the construct but your life is much more precious than that wooden robot, we can make it again.’ Mefras calmed Verite down.

‘Yes, I know that, but the construct was my first work so I couldn't help but feel sentimental.’ Say Verite.

‘Ah, it's okay. I understand, I also often have a affection for objects that are often used, such as when I have long used a laptop and are reluctant to replace it when desired.’ Mefras remembered his old laptop and now he remembered the game he had saved and would never finish.

‘At least this world is more interesting than my world.’ Mefras voiced his thoughts.

‘But the world is more dangerous.’ Verite.

‘Betul, but avoiding danger will not make us happy, we will all die someday, I die from slipping banana peel, so how about we chase the high?’ Mefras asked.

Verite thought, this fight with the bird monster made Verite feel fear for his life, in that moment was the closest moment for Verite with death.

As the beak of the monster almost broke his neck Verite felt all his life flashing in his eyes, he discovered how vulnerable human life was, how easily the flames of life could be charred.

Mefras had already told Verite how ridiculous his death was, but hearing people's stories and actually experiencing them was something different.

Verite did not know what he would do later, whether he wanted to pursue a high dream or be satisfied with what he was doing now but Verite knew what he would want now, he wants to shower and sleep.

“Verite you okay what?” A reddish-brown young girl approaches him, he is Datura, the son of a farmer who was attacked by a boar earlier.

“Iya I'm fine.” Verite answered. “I'm more worried about my friend.” He said, thinking about what happened to Regulus and Helian.

Regulus suddenly appeared from behind, “It looks like you don't need my help huh? I almost intervened before you threw your construct into the monster's face.” Regulus says.

“Huh, are you watching me?” Verite asked.

“Iya, since you left I've been following you.” He confirmed.

“So why didn't you help me?” Verite asked, unlike Helian Verite there is no reward in this mission.

“I just want to measure your abilities, Duke Bloome offered you to become his disciple personally so I thought you had high talent and I was right, he said, I will also jump if I feel you are in danger.” Say Regulus.

“I want to be angry with you but how about Helian?” Verite asked.

Regulus just pointed behind him and Verite could see Helian approaching them, she looked dirty and tired, probably more than Verite.

“Are you okay Helian?” Verite asked.

Helian. “I managed to defeat him, unfortunately I can't bring him here.”

“I wonder, why are you putting your life at risk like this?” Verite asked, she was not sure Helian would answer tai she was curious what made her capable of harming herself like this, she said, especially if in choosing to be an adventurer he might encounter more danger than this.

“If asked why..my answer is I want to be ready for the future.” Helian answered.

“If you die here you will have no future?” Verite asked.

“Yes, but everyone will maat one day, I just want to prepare myself to face the future.” Helian answered.

‘No correct answer Verite.’ Mefras replied, it seems like he heard what Verite was thinking. ‘If you don't want to be Duke Bloome's student it's your choice, this is your life, you can choose what makes you happy and calm which is important you decide this after thinking about it carefully.’

Mefras was right, Verite still had plenty of time to think about his decision.

‘After all you can still learn Thaumaturgy without accepting Duke Bloome's offer or becoming a member of the adventurer guild.’ Mefras.

With that Verite and comrade decided to rest in the village tonight.

*****

‘Good morning Verite.’ Mefras.

‘Good morning Mefras.’ Verite answered.

the morning had arrived Verite got up from the straw bed provided by Datura, after waking up and preparing himself Verite goes to the village chief's house to meet Regulus and Helian who are sleeping elsewhere, probably because Verite is a girl.

‘If they dare to touch my daughter they will get slippers.’ Mefras.

‘Iya yes mr.’ Verite said cynically.

Verite went into the village chief's house and saw Helian and Regulus sitting there waiting, on the floor there was a lot of food on display.

“Please eat first, sorry we don't have many options but please enjoy existing.” The village chief's grandmother told Verite, Regulus and Helian have started eating their food.

“With the animals you hunted last night our village could have more food for a few weeks so I thank you.” The village chief looked down.

“We just do our job.” Helian.

“Yes, but I did not enter monsters while sending a request letter to the adventurer guild.” Say grandma village chief. “I didn't expect any monsters to come with that pig either, maybe he saw an opportunity and started following him, this village only contains with children and parents, he said, we won't be able to fight them if you guys don't come so thank you.”

“Oh yes Verite, the monster you killed I have tidied it up so you can take it home.” Regulus said, looking at Verite's confused expression he added. “Part of the monster body is quite valuable compared to large animals and no one will claim it when they have watched you hunt it.”

Verite understood the explanation, Verite exterminated the monster so that the corpse belonged to Verite.

after they ate Verite decided to walk around the village before returning to the city of Azalea, Helian decided to help cut off her hunting.

Verite walked around the village, as the village chief said, this village only had children and parents, fit adults like his father Datura were nowhere to be seen.

“Hey...” Someone calls Verite.

Datura came from behind Verite and greeted him.

“Your name.. Verite right?” She asked.

“Iya.” Verite replied, unsure of what he wanted.

“Verite... I want to thank you for what you did.” Datura.

“Ah is okay, I only do it because I can.” Verite.

“Iya, but I have to say, when you guys came I was doubtful what you can do, in my mind I said “Guild Adventurers dare to send a child and call him help?” When I saw a boy of my age come here and said they'd overcome a giant boar that made my father almost die.” Datura looked down again. “So once again sorry and thank you.”

Verite nodded, she decided to accept her thanks.
