Chapter 18: Bid(Part 1)

“I have a bid for you.”

One sentence from Duke Bloome instantly froze Verite, the offer he would give was it an offer to become his adopted son? Did he offer Verite to be a part of his family because of her talent?

Verite already knew that Duke Bloome had no children or wives so a delusion that Verite had about a biological child had disappeared.

It made him feel strange because why would Duke Bloome want to raise him as his son? His talent? The possibilities were great but could he live up to such a huge expectation when more than half of his abilities were gained from Mefras knowledge?

‘Verite you mind too jump.’ Mefras Cutting the flow of his mind, ‘You better ask what he has to offer before you jump to the decision.’ Mefras warning makes Verite calmer and he starts to gather his thoughts.

Verite looked at Duke Bloome who was looking at him expressionlessly. “Yes, what do you want to offer me Duke?” Verite asked.

“You were quiet long enough earlier.” She's saying.

“Hahaha, I sometimes daydream.” Verite laughed awkwardly.

“Make sure you don't do that while working on Thaumaturgy.” Duke Bloome was silent. “Verite I've seen your talent, you are able to achieve this by self-study so I want to offer you..”.

“To be my disciple.” Duke says.

‘Liiiiihatttt kaaaaaaaannnnn Mefras extended his talk on Verite's head.

Verite could only endure the embarrassment of the mind leap he made.

‘It's all your fault Mefras!’ Verite shouted in his mind, blaming Mefras for giving him this idea earlier, if only he had not spoken about the future…

‘So will you accept it?’ Mefras asked.

‘I don't know, what do you think?’ Verite asked Mefras.

‘I suggest you ask Duke Bloome what you got and what you will leave to him.’ Mefras' advice, he wants Verite to be careful.

‘What did I give him?’ Verite asked.

‘Yes, sometimes offers like this look tempting but when you look at it again this is only beneficial to the side, for example, if he offers to finance all your inventions, but after you make that discovery, he asks for his name as the creator of the discovery and he will work on all the benefits that come from your discoveries create it.’ Mefras.

‘Yes I can see how this isn't fair, the profits from the invention could be far from the capital he used to finance the invention and all the credit would be given to him while I only got the rest of the bones from my achievements…’ Verite understands this, he does not want to be tricked like this so he will remind himself to be careful when showing his discovery.

‘Wait a minute, how about that cooling machine?’He remembered the cooler Mr. Jardi brought.

Duke Bloome raised his forehead. “It looks like you are sure you will make more new discoveries.” He said, it made Verite curse his heartless words.

“You need not worry, all the names and credit of the invention will be yours, I will only ask for production costs if the goods can indeed be produced in large quantities. You can save all the profits you get from their sales.”

‘Wow this offer is really good.’ Mefras said impressed.

“But should I stay at your place?” Verite asked.

“Iya. I am a busy person, and my mansion has all the tools you will need.” Tell Duke Bloome.

Verite.

“Can you let me think about this first?” Verite asked, he still felt a little doubt about this offer.

“Alright, next week, I will come again here to see your progress with that cooling machine, you can give your answer to that and also if you want to mass produce that cooling machine, then, don't worry even if you refuse I will still offer to sell the cooling machine.” Duke Bloome explained before he left Verite to think.

‘What do you think Mefras?’ Verite asked.

‘I leave it to you, after all this is your life, this is a decision that you yourself must make.’ Mefras stop. ‘But if you want my personal opinion the offer is pretty good.’

‘But what if he lies?’ Verite asked.

‘the possibility of him lying does exist, but I think if he really wants you then you will not be able to dwell with him.’

Mefras' words made Verite's blood freeze. Mefras put forward a frightening point, he was right, if Duke Bloome wanted to force him would easily capture Verite and lock her in the basement.

Duke Bloome had enough power to do that, he ruled all the military in the azalea city, he said, he was the richest person in this city and even the place that Verite lived in right now was a place made because of Duke Bloome's orders.

‘So how?’ Mefras asked.

‘But do I have to stay at his place?’ 

‘Do you like living in Blooming Bud Verite?’ Mefras asked.

‘If you say like it or not I can say like it, here's my roommate Caena who often invites me to play and Helian after a few weeks ago I think I can understand her personality and feel like we're friends but if you say what I want more stay here or not I'm not so sure of the answer.’Verite.

‘Ah yes, changing residence is a difficult thing, I remember the time my parents took me to move house and I was afraid of my new place.’ Mefras said, feeling longed for his old world. 

‘You still have time to think, you can decide while doing your duty.’ Meras.

“Verite..” Verite and Mefras are too concentrated with each other they are not aware that Caena is already inside this space. 

“Are you going to move?” Caena asked.
