Chapter 3 Defeating the Goblins

Moist air under the moon. Sweat kept dripping until it soaked the floor without the roof. Mike was focusing on his sword. These few days no quests had appeared so he spent a lot of time training.

But he only realized that as often as he practiced, nothing would change. His skills will not increase just by practicing. It is true that exercise can raise the level of dexterity, but it takes a long time. It might take several months or even several years just to raise 1 level higher. This system is made like that.

The fastest way to become strong was indeed just by completing a quest. Rewards obtained can also be an additional bonus to raise levels.

After Mike tinkered a lot and found out about this system, he found some things that he found very useful.

In addition to how to level up by completing quests, levels can also be raised by defeating monsters. Moreover, there was a chance that he would get the item drop from a monster of a certain level.

"Little lady?" Mike stared at the hologram screen while furrowing an eyebrow in confusion. He had no idea who the little lady the system meant. Plus where was he until he was in danger?

When Mike wanted to curse an obscure system like this, suddenly an arrow was leading him somewhere.

"Alright, accept quest."

Mike walked up following the arrow that shone above the ground level. During the trip he thought what kind of little lady he would save? Maybe she was a conglomerate princess or something. At least that's Mike's shadow about little lady.

"Danger source?" Mike was shocked as he stared at the hologram screen before him. He turned his gaze in all directions, but he did not get the source of the danger the system was saying.

Mike narrowed his eyes looking at the writing on that transparent screen. Though this is a new quest tutorial, but why are there monsters? Mike doesn't know and he doesn't want to think about it.

Right now he was only thinking how to defeat monsters with his level still very low.

Usually those with low levels will move in groups in order to survive. But right now he's alone. Moreover, he had to fight while protecting the little girl.

But the system makes the monster level less than the level in general. Of course they have to do that. Otherwise, how would Mike be able to complete the quest with his current level?

Guuaarr!!!

From a distance Mike faintly heard a roar. The voice sounded strange, but he was sure that the owner of the roar was a monster.

If it was just from his voice, it seemed like the monster was only one. But the system says the monster's nest means that there must be more than one or maybe more monsters than expected.

Mike had prepared with the perfect sword and horses. He slowly walked closer to a fairly narrow alley. The voice he heard came from this alley. The arrow leading him also led to the same alley.

"I can do this. I must become stronger before the main quest begins." Mike prepares to show himself in front of the monsters. But he hasn't done it yet, Mike's been caught.

Behind Mike currently stands a monster that is almost the same size as his body size. The monster is a goblin. When he realizes that the monster is a goblin, Mike lowers his tension.

On top of the goblin's head was floating the inscription "LV.5" which surprised Mike. His current level was still level one, how could he defeat a level five monster?

Although Mike used a samurai skill that doubled the level of dexterity, but still it was still not enough for level five monsters. Plus the level of strength he had was still at level two.

Mike has been made to panic with such a high level difference. But moments later, the number floating above the goblin's head changed. Now the goblin before him was at level two.

Because of his own panic he had forgotten that the system reduced the level of monsters to match the level of players. Mike was benefited in this situation. Although Mike's overall level is still level one, but he still believes in his skills. His level of strength was also level two. So, he felt that he could overcome this goblin.

The thought only persisted until the moment the goblins did not launch an attack on him. With the overall level of goblins who are level two with Mike's defense level still at level one, of course, there is a big difference.

Mike just realized that the difference in one level of the overall level will be a gap so far. Mike had already swung his sword right at the goblin's neck. Unfortunately, the goblin's skin was too hard to be pierced by Mike's sword.

"Basic quest crazy!" Mike wiped the fresh blood on the tip of his lips. He had been hit several times by the blunt goblin weapon. The level of defense he had was still too weak to receive an attack from a level two monster.

Right now Mike is feeling pain in his body. But it was too late for him to back off. He had already received the quest, meaning there would be a penalty if he failed to complete it.

"AARRGH!!!" Mike roars. His voice sounded full of despair. He tried to catch his irregular breathing. In the current circumstances, Mike must be able to maintain his calm. Panic will only make things worse.

"Man! You should be the last one to survive in this damned game. Meet that man and avenge the thousands of lives he's taken."

Mike heard someone talking to him. As Mike circulated his gaze, he found no one around.

"Are you the one who spoke to me?" Mike stepped back while staring warily at the goblin in front of him.

"Kill me before I get back under control!"

The goblin before him fell down. He seemed ready to be hunted. But even so, how did Mike kill him? To scratch his skin alone requires tremendous effort.

"As long as I'm aware, I can lower my level. Quickly swing your sword and kill me. But in the future, as much as possible do not kill too many monsters that appear. If that's possible. I'd be very grateful."

Mike was confused. Though a while ago Mike was still easily able to swing his sword. But somehow now his body seems heavy to move.

Instantly the sword was filled with green liquid. Mike swung his sword. He swung the heavy sword.
