My Notorious Gentleman's

My Notorious Gentleman's
#55

Still trembling with protective emotions, Grace walks with the two boys towards her home, where she gives Danny a dry towel. Then he gave them breakfast. He is currently too upset to be able to eat.

Really brazen. Don't know manners...

Of course Grace was glad her neighbor had saved Denny. The man was right. Even though the children had done some dangerous things, they were fine now.

But Grace is still angry with Lord Trevor. How dare the man comment on his single status! By asking him why he still lives with his father? What an unforgivable blandness! And all this time he thought the man was an honorable man!

Obviously, he had guessed wrong.

Just call her an old virgin with bluntness. Because Grace had absolutely no one to wait for, who went to war with Colonel Avery.

But it's none of that man's business! and coupled with the fact, perhaps, Grace doesn't like it if anyone else realizes that she's a bit lonely. That her life did not go as well as most other young women had hoped.

Grace's tears could spill right now if she was really serious about it.

But oh, that man, the creature that he thought was so handsome, had exposed the painful fact blatantly. It was as if Grace owed him an explanation!

While the twins voraciously bribed bacon, eggs, and barley bread into their mouths, Grace simply stared at the apple-filled bowl in the middle of the dinner table, too angry to swallow food.

Grace wished that her father had never suggested to the man to buy Grange.

How can he live a neighborly life with an ex-spy, a trained killer, and especially now, after the man sees Grace as ridiculous, walking out of the house wearing only an evening dress and a robe, with boots as footwear? That's all that the man needs.

Grace shook her head in her pent-up anger. For God's sake, as a priest's daughter, she could live with various flaws, but if Lord Trevor pitied her because of her status as a spinster, she could not accept it.

Grace's self-esteem can't accept any of that. It's not something he can bear. Calpurnia can have the man, Grace doesn't care at all.

Meanwhile, across the table the two Nelcott boys laughed at each other, having forgotten their fears after now they have survived the danger.

The children seem to be trying to forget the danger they had been through by laughing and joking or perhaps considering it their best adventure.

"Denny, did he really save you from drowning?" sela Grace, and subconsciously felt annoyed by the joy they showed now.

"I thought you could swim."

"Aye, I can, Miss." said the boy.

"Not as good as me!" sela's brother.

"Better you are!" reply Denny, while pushing Kenny.

"No way!"

"Kids! Answer the question!"

"I can swim" Denny assured Grace.

"But my foot was stuck in a tree trunk or something at the bottom of a river. I can't move. I can barely keep my nose above the water."

"Aye, Miss." Denny smiled broadly.

"He's brilliant!"

"For someone ogre," Kenny added, giggling, and Grace looked angrily upon realizing that the two had changed their views on Grange's new owner, from a villain to a hero.

Hmmmphc.

"Well, you better get away from him. He doesn't want to be a part of you or anyone else. You heard it yourself. He just wants to be left alone. So we have to respect his wishes, and hopefully, no one will be killed. If I hear one more time you guys sneak into his property, you guys have to deal with me. Understood?"

The same wrinkle was seen on the faces of the two twin boys, but the pair of small brides finally understood.

They both looked down, and muttered,

"Okay, Ma'am."

"Good then," Grace replied, and ended up eating her toast.
