My Notorious Gentleman's
#41

"Well, if anything happens to you once I'm gone, you can send me a message, this is my address in London."

When Lord Trevor handed a small piece of paper from his front pocket to his father, Grace looked at her new neighbor and held her gaze a little too long.

"Gell!" said the pastor.

"Today's events need to be celebrated. You two want to join me for some wine, right?"

"It's with pleasure" greeted Trevor.

Grace nodded, and Papa left the two of them to take the wine.

Trevor turned and smiled at Grace when they were alone. Unable to control it, Grace blushes. It seems like he always reacts like this, when it comes to Trevor.

"Your father seems like a good person" Trevor said, Grace smiled warmly,

" It's true." Trevor leaned back in his chair.

"I don't like someone right away."

"really?" ask Grace happily.

"Well, he loves everyone. Even you."

Trevor simply shrugged his shoulders, and lowered his gaze.

"I'm not sure he'd still love me if he knew what I'd done on my last mission."

Tatalan is confused Grace meets with the searchlight investigating the man.

"You must know who I am now, don't you, Miss Kenwood? You may have heard it. I mean, who I was."

Grace nodded awkwardly. "George... Lord Brentford."

"true." Trevor let out a breath, staring at the boots on his toes.

"The whole world seems to know about my story now, which worries me a bit."

Grace was trying to pick the right words. "You must be very brave..."

"Oh my God, don't. please."

The look of despair that was immediately visible in the man's eyes brought Grace to a halt.

"Sorry."

"I'm just doing my job. And usually this is a bad job. Don't give me flattery I don't deserve."

Grace notices Trevor, unsure of what to think of the man.

"Is it true that you were recruited as a boy, as people say?"

"true."

"George says you know nine different ways to kill someone with your bare hands." Lord Trevor snorted softly and turned his face away.

"Is that true?" charge Grace in a soft voice.

"I never really counted it" said Lord Trevor wryly. Grace frowned, watching the man.

"You don't like working for the Order?"

"Sometimes the work is fun." Trevor's sharp glare observed the rows of trees, as if it had become his habit.

"I understand." This guy's pretty interesting, Grace has to admit it.

"So, what were you doing on your last mission that would make my father so unhappy, if I may ask?"

"I accidentally blew up the church" replied Lord Trevor

"But it's the Catholic church, if it has any effect." Grace looked at the man with an amused look,

"At least you don't really intend to blow it up."

"true." Trevor smiled with a flash of relief in his eyes.

"It's normal that I'm happy to blow something up, but that last one really makes me feel sorry."

Grace looked at the man with a mixture of interested and amused feelings. He never imagined he would have a friend who would like to blow something up or even kill in one way with his bare hands.

"What?" lord Trevor muttered when he saw Grace smiling.

Grace shakes. "After the adventures you used to go on, I'm afraid you'll find our village very boring."

Lord Trevor laughed softly, leaned back his head on the chair, and stared into the dark sky.

"Miss Kenwood," he said, "at this point in my life, I would very much look forward to the 'boredom' of my life with all my heart."

Before Grace manages to muster up her courage to ask the man's opinion of Calpurnia, Papa returns with the wine, hands out the glasses for them, and offers toast.

"For the new owner of Grange!"

"To Thistleton," said Lord Trevor, adding with a quick glance at Grace, "and a new possibility."

Grace harrumphed, of course, and touched her glass with another while smiling broadly.

"Cheers!"

"Cheers!" reply to another.
