Grace barely even looked at the man, just moving along with the dance moves.
Grace's mind focused entirely on Lord Trevor. His heart was pounding as they finally returned to pairing.
"Have I upset you again? Was my speech too blunt?" lord Trevor said with a slight gasp, closing his lips to Grace's ears.
Grace's passion had already started to stir a little and she was afraid the man would find out.
"Don't be silly. It's just that I didn't expect that I'd be back at this party."
"I have to apologize to you."
"Omong empty, you've done it."
"That's still not enough, Miss Kenwood. I'm acting like a barbarian towards you. You deserve a better apology than that." whispered Lord Trevor.
"And I want you to know that I'm really sorry. Not just a word."
Grace lowered her head, smiling, her whole body fluttering.
"Well, I got back at you by stabbing your hand with my hairpin."
"Yes" said the man, smiling as his lips touched Grace's ears.
"As a priest's daughter, you're pretty ruthless too, huh?"
Grace looked cheerfully at the man.
"You started it yourself."
"Hm." Lord Trevor's eyes were glistening.
This woman had no idea how beautiful she was. Trevor found himself increasingly fascinated.
Miss Kenwood beauty goes beyond physical beauty. He is kind, simple, and gentle in all sorts of ways, so that a man who used to struggle with the cruelty of the world will surely fall for him.
But the betrayal Trevor received recently, it is not easy to forget, let alone be lost.
After Trevor finished dancing with Grace, bowed and kissed the woman's hand as a respectful thank-you, the two of them then turned to applaud the musicians, and suddenly he saw the golden hair he was familiar with on the other side of the room.
Trevor stiffened instantly.
Trevor's smile faded slightly for a while, he lowered his gaze, once again immersed in the bitterness that had hardened his heart which had indeed turned cold.
Laura and her idiot army. Whoa, whoa. Perhaps Grace's charm, to her surprise, lowered Trevor's self-defense a bit, but when he once turned to Laura, his cold temper, his pain were pierced from behind, and feelings of abandonment... all of that back up in his flood.
Even more so than Trevor's hatred for that woman whose beauty was blameless, to be honest he blamed himself more for depending on something as weak as a woman.
It doesn't matter now, Trevor promised himself. Such a thing would never happen again.
Grace was still clapping for the musicians when Trevor pulled his elbow gently to say goodbye.
If Trevor needs to be reminded that the woman is not important, now is the time. He remembered it in his heart.
Grace Kenwood is more fun than most women, with her calm and strong presence. He did not try to draw anyone's attention to him. But whatever this woman is displaying right now, Trevor won't want to get back entangled in a woman's trap.
This one woman, Trevor was worried, could make him come back flabby, especially since the woman had absolutely no thought of doing so.
Grace Kenwood is not one hundred percent safe.
At least that's how Trevor's judgment looks at Grace's attitude so far. If she was still dabbling in the world of spying, Grace would be the one she was very wary of. Not being cynical, not arrogant, and can obviously be quick to forgive. The type who sees the best side of everyone.
Maybe Grace is fit to marry a country farmer, Trevor thought sourly. The man who would never break his heart.
But it's true. Grace's deceptive care resulted in Trevor losing control of it into something strange and foreign, at least in the eyes of a man who had been betrayed twice by those closest to him.
When Grace turned to him with a spotlight asking, Trevor bowed closer to Grace's ears.
"Thank you for coming with me tonight, Miss Kenwood."
Trevor carefully chose his words, so that he could express his respect to the woman as well as keep her away. For the sake of both of them.
"It's a fun diversion. But unfortunately I have to go now."
"Oh!" Grace looked at Trevor in surprise, watching his face intently.
"Is something wrong, My Lord?"
Trevor smiles formally at Grace and lies, who is not meant to deceive her, but a subtle way of telling her. It's none of your business.
"Not at all" replied Trevor.
"I just remembered there was something I had to do at home. I'm really sorry, but this is something urgent and I need to finish before morning."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Alright." Grace smiled cheerfully, but Trevor could still see a doubtful glint in the woman's mats.
Trevor could see that Grace knew she was lying, but God blessed her, choosing not to press her.
Grace reached out to shake hands, another one of the woman's anwh.
"It's good to see you, Lord Trevor."
"I am happy." Trevor shook Grace's hand gently.
"Please send my regards to your father, Miss Kenwood. Good night."
"Good night" Grace replied.
