Callie's lost her temper.
"You really don't know how to have fun at all! No wonder you're a spinster!" ketus.
Grace flinched as if she had just been slapped, then turned her face away, she pursed her lips so as not to give a bad response, a response that would not be forgiven, either by her father or her God.
At that moment, when she turned her gaze to avoid Callie's gaze, Grace saw the two Bitsy twin sisters near the row of trees in Grange.
Two small heads are seen poking out from behind a large kayi trunk that has collapsed.
What the hell are they doing? The twins' adventure agenda today is to spy on the spy.
Grace rolled her eyes and felt despair.
That man would absolutely hate staying here! If he bought the house.
In a village that is less than five hundred souls, everyone knows about everything about others, or they can finally know by themselves.
This former spy is in no way preparing to face losing his anonymity here.
"I don't understand why you're so worried about me coming to that guy. I'm just trying to be friendly with him"
"You and all the women in the world" Grace grumbled.
"What do you mean?"
"Callie, when I met him in London, he was being surrounded by dozens of women, and they were all trying to seduce him, more or less as you do today."
"I'm not so!"
"And he hated it so much. When we were alone, he made fun of them. Lord Trevor called them carnivores. Do you want him to see you that way too?"
"Carnivore?" callie exclaimed, but she began to understand the innuendo, and looked panicked.
"But it looks like that" Grace said flatly.
"You're just jealous because he's more concerned about me than you are!"
Grace gave it to Callie in surprise.
"Aren't you able to see that she's bothered with you?"
"Well, I've never considered it that way!" callie said with a gasp.
"Why would you say that to me? Asa you know, I'm sorry to say this, but she said that she doesn't remember ever meeting you!" Grace was silent in shock.
"He said that?" the pain was so quick and unpleasant, but Grace simply turned her face away, somewhat surprised to hear the confession, and told herself that none of this would have any effect.
Grace never had a romantic shadow with Lord Trevor. No one, at least he was willing to admit.
Geace must have been a fool if he hoped to have more than just a warm and intimate relationship with the man, like his relationship with George so far.
Of course, Gorge never kissed Grace passionately in a dark room.
Callie glanced at Grace nervously, a trace of guilt appearing in the girl's eyes for having said such a bad thing to her.
Bitsy turned from one lady to the other with concern, then the little girl clasped Grace's hand.
After a while, Grace rediscovered her voice.
"I'm not sure you're treating the situation, Calpurnia. Taoi you must have realized, since you often join my charity work, many of the farmers here have no jobs. If Lord Trevor were to buy Grange and re-purpose the land, he would definitely need workers and servants. The poor families in the kits village will be able to live decent lives again. You gotit? It will do us all good. That's why I don't want you to scare her by being too presumptuous. We have to be polite."
Grace was worried, but decided to reveal what was in her heart.
"To be honest, Callie, you're our best hope for him to settle down in Thistleton. You are the most beautiful girl in the village. If there's someone who's the reason for moving here, it's you. But she definitely wouldn't let you if she thought you were a cute girl. He's been going everywhere, doing all kinds of work, he's seen it all. He can't possibly tolerate your childish attitude. Do you understand?"
