In Islam, the practice of akikah is a sunnah that is recommended to be done after the birth of a child. Akikah involves the slaughter of certain animals as an expression of gratitude to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala for the gift of child birth. However, in the case of the birth of twins, opinions vary on whether each child needs to be married separately.
Some scholars argue that each twin should be given a separate akikah, so that each child gets spiritual benefits and rewards from the akikah. This opinion is based on the view that each individual has unique rights and status, even though they were born in one time.
However, there are also other opinions that allow married together for twins. They argue that a joint marriage can be considered sufficient as an expression of gratitude to God for the birth of twins, without the need to repeat the process of akikah for each child separately. This view refers to the principle of sufficiency in worship, which allows a form of worship in a concise manner, but still fulfills its purpose.
In this case, it is important for parents to consult with a religious scholar or scholar who can provide more specific guidance according to their beliefs and practices. The choice of each child separately or together should be based on a good understanding of the teachings of Islam and consider the input of a respected religious authority.
In the book Al-Fiqh Al-Manhaji Ala Madzhab Al-Imam Asy-Syafii described as follows.
"The number of children corresponds to the number of children. It is not enough to kill one goat for more than one child, but it is destroyed by the number of children according to the number of children. So, for one child one goat, two children two goats, three children three goats, and so on. If two twins are born, two akikah are killed, not one goat."
The basis is the hadith of Prophet Muhammad salallahu 'alaihi wasallam.
From Ibn Abbas radhiyallahu anhu, that the Prophet Salallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam accosted Hasan and Husain one goat from each child. (Hadith of Abu Daud)
From Amru ibn Shuaib from his father from his grandfather that the Prophet Muhammad salallahu 'alaihi wasallam possessed Hasan and Husein each of the two equal and sufficient goats. (Hadith History of Al-Hakim)
So, it can be concluded that each child is one goat each for akikah. Can not combine the akikah twins only with one goat, because although twins—both are different souls and individuals. Wa Allahu a’lam bis shawab.
