The Dark Days of Kanaya

Time went too fast for Haykal. Last night he asked from Kanaya. As if so fast, without Haykal realizing the clock was ticking. Until finally the big clock chimed, Haykal looked up at the clock in front of him. Exactly at 00.00 WIB, midnight which signifies less than twelve hours ahead. Haykal and Kanaya will be separated. The breakup that made Haykal anxious, until his eyes could not be closed. Haykal couldn't get far from Kanaya. The fear that makes Haykal hope time stops turning.

Haykal opted out of Kanaya's room. Haykal fears his affection for Kanaya. Turns into a napkin and ego that might destroy Kanaya. Finally this is where Haykal is, on the second floor balcony of Kanaya's stately home. Haykal felt claustrophobic, he decided to go out in search of a fresh breeze. Haykal sat on a chair on the side of the balcony. Staring at the beautiful night sky, feeling the chill of the night breeze piercing into his bones. Haykal sat in silence, seeking tranquility in the quiet of the night.

"Coffee!" greet Rafan, while giving a cup of coffee to Haykal. As Haykal turned his head, he saw Rafan standing with two cups of coffee.

Haykal received a cup of coffee that Rafan gave him. Seen Haykal's astonished look, saw Rafan who came carrying coffee. This is not a good time to drink coffee. Haykal can't believe that Rafan is still awake this late. But Haykal's astonishment was erased, when he saw Rafan's smile. Haykal felt that Rafan had not slept, so he came out with him.

"I just got home from the hospital. I saw Kanaya's room was still bright. I'm guessing there's an occupant who hasn't slept and it's definitely you!" said Rafan casually, Haykal turned to not understand. Rafan chuckled, looking at the confused Haykal.

"Right, I can guess you're the one who hasn't slept!" rafan said, Haykal nodded slowly.

"Kanaya may be free, but he is personally disciplined with his time. He never sleeps late. Even though he's off school tomorrow morning. Kanaya will remain disciplined with her sleeping hours. In less than three hours, Kanaya will wake up. If you stay awake, Kanaya will be anxious to see you!"

"Why did Kanaya wake up?" sahut Haykal doesn't believe it.

"You'll find out later. Now, don't think of me as your wife's sister. I'm Rafan your best friend, so tell me the reason for your anxiety. To the extent that you are awake in the dark of the night!" rafan said softly, Haykal sighed. A fear that Haykal himself did not know the reason for. Only fear was far from Kanaya who had since been spinning beautifully in her mind. To disturb the peace of his heart and soul.

"Okay, I'm confused myself. I was afraid of falling asleep and when I woke up, Kanaya was not by my side!"

"It's about Kanaya's departure to the boarding school!" rafan said, Haykal nodded slowly. Haykal lowered his head. He felt a sense of unease, realizing Kanaya would be far from his sight. Even Haykal won't be able to see Kanaya in a long time.

"Why can I agree with Kanaya's third request? If in fact I can't get far from his shadow!" said Haykal lirih, Rafan patted Haykal's shoulder slowly. Rafan tries to understand Haykal's fear. But there are things Haykal never understood. If Kanaya's decision existed long before Haykal.

"How many months does he let you see him?" rafan lirih said, Haykal fell silent. Rafan silently stared at Hayjkal's nanar. Seeing Haykal's silence, Kanaya clearly forbade Haykal from seeing him.

"Haykal, there's something you should know about Kanaya. Who is Kanaya? Why can Kanaya give you a dowry that sounds easy? But in fact, it's all hard to meet. Unless you believe and are sincere with Kanaya. Then you will easily live it!"

"Say!" sahut Haykal lirih, Rafan stood away from Haykal.

"Before we return to this country. Kanaya gets a proposal from papa's best friend's son. He's a businessman, handsome and well-established. An obvious advantage possessed by the man. A dream that makes everyone feel worried. Should they be happy or sad to see Kanaya getting married at a very young age. But the offer has already been said and trust has been given. Papa felt he was the right man for Kanaya. Moreover, the wedding will be done after Kanaya finishes school. Long story short, the relationship between Kanaya and the man was so close. Mama had reminded papa, so as not to trust the man too much. But papa always defies my mother's suspicions. Even papa had slapped my mother, just because she asked for Kanaya's match with the man to be annulled. Mama feels Kanaya is not old enough. Good luck is unachievable, poor can't be prevented!" rafan said, then looked down. He saw both of his hands clutching the trellis so tightly. There is clearly anger implied by Rafan's attitude. Haykal walked over to Rafan, slowly Haykal patted the back of Rafan's hand gently.

"What happened to Kanaya?" sahut Haykal lirih, Rafan was silent. It seemed that Rafan was calming his heart and mind.

"Until one day, Kanaya saw the man go with a woman. Kanaya decides to follow the man. From the beginning, Kanaya was uncomfortable with their relationship. But for the sake of papa and his business, Kanaya agreed to this matchmaking. The man stopped at a boarding house. They seem to have entered one of the rooms. Kanaya kept following them. Kanaya recorded everything she saw. At least all of that will be evidence on papa and cancellation of the application. At night, Kanaya decides to end the match. Kanaya showed the evidence she had. But not the words of forgiveness or shame that the man showed. In fact he wanted to harm Kanaya by harassing her. But HE is always there for HIS faithful servant. His help saved Kanaya from the man. Eventually Kanaya escapes and can call off the matchmaking. The man agreed, because if he refused. Kanaya will report all her deeds!"

"Rafan, why did you cover it from me?"

"Sorry Haykal, this is a dark time in my sister's life. Can't I tell anyone? Including yourself, now that you know it. You can drop talaq on Kanaya. But one thing, my sister Kanaya is still holy and untarnished. He risked his life to keep his pride. I'm a fool as a brother who can't protect her!"

"I mean Brother?" sahut Haykal doesn't understand.

"I was married and felt the pain of holding back an unbidden desire. Your anxiety is proof that you love Kanaya so much. I better go to the room, is it up to you to go back to Kanaya's room or not?" rafan said the final, Haykal looked down. Haykal walked towards Kanaya's room.

"Subbhanallah, once again you fascinate me!" inward Haykal haru, when he saw Kanaya reading the holy verse of the Quran.

"Sister can't sleep, do I need to make food?" kanaya said, stopping Haykal's steps slowly entering his room. Kanaya stopped teaching, now there are other obligations that must be done. Keeping and taking care of Haykal, became his main task as a wife.

"I'm not hungry, you better move on. I'll take a nap, wake me up at dawn!" haykal said softly, Kanaya nodded slowly. Kanaya continued reading the holy verse of the Quran. Kanaya's routine before she performs tahajud prayers.

"Darling, you really made me helpless. The more I get to know you, the bigger it gets for you. Your servant is so strong, you do not waver and despair of His mercy. Even if you almost experience something that can make you destroyed. Kanaya Fauziah Abimata, your faith takes my eyes and my world away. Thank you, please accept my race.
