One evening before dusk, a gust of wind blew the leaves of Maple trees that were falling along the street in New York City. Occasionally the reddish orange leaves are flying high on the glass of the car that passes the road. Small birds were busy in groups walking to and fro looking for something to eat, the sound of footsteps and the sound of the speed of the vehicle scattered the group of birds, the sound of footsteps, make them flap their wings again for the umpteenth time.
A 45-year-old man walks alone in the streets of suburban New York. His black hat and sunglasses have always been his favorite accessories, plus his hobby that always keeps a sideburn in the chin and cheek area. For him the dense feathers made him reluctant by many people.
Both of his footsteps stopped in front of an apartment building dominated by green, his mother's favorite color. For the first time, he gave a gift to his mother an apartment in New York City. "This place reminds me of your grandparents' hometown." As his mother said the first time the old woman set foot in the apartment he bought about ten years ago.
He removed his sunglasses as soon as he stepped inside the apartment building. His footsteps crept up the stairs that were the same width as his feet, he arrived in front of a door with the number 505. His hands knocked at the wooden door. A woman who was fixing her green veil appeared, standing right in front of her. A small smile was painted on his wrinkled face, his two eyes were faint and dark circles were disguised under his eyes.
"You remember your mother, Ted !!"
"Mother, why do you welcome me like this? At least let me in, and don't stand in front of the door !!"
Mrs Baxter leaned her body against the door of her apartment, giving way for her son to come inside. Throw her black bag over the sofa, and put her next to it with her legs raised on the table.
The old woman looked at Ted for a few seconds, not because of his son's disrespect in the room, but he wanted to discuss a matter with the man. The breath came out very heavily from Mrs Baxter's nose.
"Ted, there's something I need to talk to you about."
"Later on, Mom. I'm so tired. I'm going to sleep."
Ted stood with his bag and walked past his mother who was standing nearby. Madame Baxter could only shake her head looking at her son's attitude. Bruakk.a heard a door close very hard, making the old woman a little surprised and stroked her chest.
In the kitchen, Mrs Baxter was busy making Ted's favorite meal. Every time the old woman made this food, her tears always spilled down her cheeks. Her memory goes back to Ted's childhood of helping her in the kitchen, playing kitchen utensils with her husband, and the two men in her life always took every cooked meal from the frying pan.
But the story only unfolds as fast as lightning, destiny separates her from her husband. His soul mate was gone forever because of a chronic illness. Still vividly remembered in his old memory, how the doctor did not want to operate on her husband because he did not have the money to pay for the surgery and hospital fees. His heart felt very sad, all his neighbors, friends and relatives did not help him much at that time.
Right one night Ted came home in a state of rhino drenched because of the heavy rain that flushed the city of Istanbul. His son stood in front of him, handed him a brown envelope, and then in his absence the envelope seemed to have so many bills in it.
"Where did you get this money, son? You didn't steal, did you?"
"Someone gave this money to me."
"someone? Who her? Do you know her?"
"Don't ask me anything, Mom !! This money is for your operating expenses."
With the money, Mrs Baxter could pay for her husband's surgery. But fate willed another, her husband's operation failed and her husband died. After her husband's death, she learned that her son had been expelled from her military academy. This particular experiment. From then on, Ted's attitude began to change, he barely recognized his own biological child. Money had made him turn into a monster that had no mercy.
"Mother, I'm hungry..Where's the food?" yelled Ted who broke Madam Baxter's daydream.
"Mother will take her out" replied Lady Baxter who brought her cooking and placed it on a square-shaped dining table.
Ted devoured the food on his plate, but his mother's gaze made him a little sultry. Ted looked back at his mother.
"Eat, Mom. Don't look at me like that. As if I were a stranger to you."
"Throughout a few years, you do look like a stranger. I barely even recognize you."
Ted laughed loudly at his mother's words, then the bald man went into his room, took a brown envelope from his bag and gave it to his mother. Mrs Baxter stared intently at the brown envelope.
"Every time you come, you're like a courier who just hands me this envelope and turns the day you leave again."
"Mom.. Don't overdramatize things."
"Take the envelope back, I won't take it, until you tell me where this money came from !!"
"Tell me, what's your job? Did you trick a girl, take all hers, and make that girl pregnant and then you leave her?" Mrs Baxter has been unable to contain her heartbreak since Ted returned to her apartment.
"What does mother mean? Thought of a girl?"
"Mom didn't expect..you're really embarrassing !! How can you cheat and impregnate a girl half your age?"
"Mother... I don't understand what you're talking about? The only woman I ever hamili was Nuran, and I married her."
"But the girl has conceived your child. Take responsibility for the girl and her family."
"Who should I give responsibility to? I really don't understand this talk, Mom !!"
Madam Baxter's patience was running out, the old woman snorted in annoyance. Then he told about the arrival of a girl named Leyla (who was none other than Hazal Aksal). The girl came along with her older brother, they were both Turkish. His brother's friend is American. The girl said she was pregnant with your child, and you've been in a relationship for six months. Mrs Baxter also said she had told them both of Ted's addresses in Turkey and also gave him his mobile number.
Ted Baxter was shocked to hear his mother's story. The bald man stood up from his seat, he rubbed his face hard. He walked back and forth to and fro in no direction.
"Mother, everything the girl said was a lie !! I have never known a girl named Leyla, and how careless my mother gave my address and my mobile number to them !! Why didn't you call me at the time?" ted shouted while hitting the dining table in front of him, making the dinnerware vibrate.
"What do you mean, if the girl's lying? The girl even cried so hysterically knowing you were married."
"Is the girl here again?"
"No, he only came once. After that day, the girl never came here again, and I forgot to ask her phone number and where she lives."
Ted talks to himself, "Who's the girl? And what's he looking for me for?" His face was full of anger.
"Aren't you going to take responsibility and marry the girl?" ask Mrs Baxter once more.
"Wed whom? I never even got in touch with that girl !! He has deceived you, Mother !! He's a fraud !!" shouted Ted in anger, his jaw was hardened as soon as his step towards the front door of his apartment. The sound of the door slamming loudly, made Madam Baxter's eyes closed and bowed in fear. Just this time, he saw his son this angry.
Outside his apartment building, Ted lights his cigar. Smoke came out of his nostrils. The man muttered in his heart, "Who is Leyla? What's the girl's business with her?"
The man rubbed the sideburns on his face, trying to find the answer to this question. Remembering every incident he had done a while ago.
"Don't the girl be Max's stepdaughter? Does the girl know what I did to her stepfather? No. It seems that it is impossible. There's no way he's. My mother said Leyla was Turkish. Who her? Oh shit... I really can't guess who that girl is !!"
Ted took his phone and tried to contact someone. The voice of the woman answering her phone call. "If anyone's looking for me, call me immediately !! Youunderstand?" yelled Ted in front of his phone.
