Four Sekawan Journey - Wooden Box
Lee drove his car at high speed to Carina's house. The Japanese man was actually experiencing a high level of emotions. During the trip, they just sat in silence. Carina could only look at the car glass beside her, once in a while she saw Lee's face, the handsome face was now barely perfectly shaped. Full of bruises everywhere. Carina felt very guilty, because of her... Lee got hurt and fought with his friend. The girl cursed herself, why she had to ask Lee to free herself and why she told him about her life. But it's too late to regret.
Accidentally their gazes met, when a traffic light stopped their journey. Lee looked at the tear marks flowing down Carina's face. Without saying much, Lee rubbed Carina's wet face, wiped the clear liquid on the girl's eye patch, and held her hand gently. "I'm fine, you don't worry" he said as if to comfort himself and comfort himself. The girl held Lee's face that was already out of shape, "It must have hurt." Lee simply replied to Carina with a smile.
Lee stopped his car in front of a Mall. He gave Carina an unlimited card, "Come down, get me some clothes and use this card to pay the bills" Lee said.
Carina got out of the car. Entering the Mall and looking for some clothes for Lee. It was not difficult for Carina to find a suitable size for Lee, as the girl was already familiar with Lee's shape and body size even though it was only overnight. "I think these clothes are enough" said Carina who saw her groceries in the basket and then took her to the cashier's desk. After completing her transaction, Carina exits the Mall and reenters Lee's car.
A few minutes later, they reached Carina's house. Carina's house was not very big, there were only two rooms inside the house. Carina invites Lee to sit on a sofa that is almost weathered due to age. He took a P3K box in his room, as well as some ice cubes. She covered the ice cubes with a small towel. The girl cleaned the dry blood in Lee's mouth and nose, gave antiseptic drugs to the wound and compressed the bruise on Lee's face. Then Carina helped Lee take off his shirt. Carina slowly applied the ointment on Lee's body. He looked grievously at the bruises around the man's chest, ribs and back.
"Would I take you to the hospital?" asked Carina who was worried about Lee's situation.
"There's no need for me to be okay" said Lee, who directed his gaze in another direction.
"But Lee...." Carina had not been able to continue her words, Lee had covered the girl's mouth with her hands.
"You don't have to worry" said Lee, who tried to calm Carina down.
Carina could only sigh slowly, "Why is she so stubborn, what if there is a broken bone? His friend was so outrageous that he beat Lee up like this, what were they really fighting about, and why did Lee's friend hate me so much?" grumbled Carina to herself.
"Lee.. May I ask you something?" asked Carina who was still busy giving the ointment to Lee's body.
"What's wrong?" asked Lee with his face flat.
"Can you answer me honestly, what do you want from me other than my body?" carina asked with her serious face. Lee was very surprised by Carina's question. Both irises of her eyes stared intently at Carina's bead. But there was not the slightest bit of fear in the girl's eye bead. Lee stepped his foot away from Carina and turned his back. Not a word came out of the man's lips. Curiosity prompted Carina to walk and touch her lover's shoulder that night.
"Are you not really loving me, Lee? Is this all just your game?" urged Carina who felt that something was hidden by Lee against her.
"Why do you have such thoughts?" lee asked in his casual manner, he stuffed both of his hands into his trouser pocket and stood firmly in front of Carina.
"Because I overheard a conversation between you and your friend, saying that my presence would mess with your plans. He seems to hate me so much. And one more thing...why did your friend put a wiretap in our hotel room? What do you want to hear?" carina asked who spilled all the questions that had been dancing in her mind.
Lee sighed, held Carina's face with both hands and looked at her gently as she said, "If I say, that there's no reason for it all?"
Carina shook her head, and brushed Lee's hands off her face, she walked up to him and said, "Lee, I'm not a kid you can lie to. I know there's something you're hiding from me."
Lee stared at Carina's back, her heart and mind out of step with this situation, "Will all my games end here? If I tell you the truth, who will he choose? Me or his stepfather? But sooner or later everything will be revealed. I don't know who's to blame for all this."
"Everything is right, Carina," Lee said in a flat tone. Lee closed his eyes, waiting for a reaction from Carina. Four words spoken from Lee's lips were able to spill a dam of water on Carina's eye pellet. It is very painful to hear an honesty that he really does not want to hear.
"Thank you for your honesty" said Carina Lirih, she wiped her tears that spilled so that Lee did not pity her.
The man who thought he loved himself sincerely and was willing to accept his past, turned out to only deceive himself and use it. Lee was even more ruthless than the striped-nosed guy at the nightclub where he worked. His heart was so claustrophobic at this moment, it wanted to feel like he was screaming inside his house. Why? ... Why is this happening? When he felt like flying as if happiness would approach him, but... A bitter reality threw him to the deepest bottom. Carina ran into her room, and shut the door. It was too late for Lee to prevent Carina's departure, her helping hand only caught the wind.
"Carina.." call Lee while knocking on the door. Lee repeatedly called out the girl's name, but there was no answer from within.
Carina dropped her body on the bed, she buried her face on the pillow, her tears came out endlessly, spilling her all her frustration over her own stupidity, which was too trusting in Lee's words.
"Carina. please open the door, listen to my explanation" Lee said softly.
"Go !!! I don't want to see you !!!" joking Carina from inside.
"I won't leave here until you get out of your room" Lee said forcefully.
"Keep you out of my house !!!" shouted Carina who threw her pillow towards the door of her room.
Lee could only stare at Carina's door leaf with a pushy look. "He's really mad at me. But I can't get out of this house empty-handed, right now I'm in a lion's den. Before the lion comes and preys on me, then I'll find something to subdue him."
The man walked into Carina's stepfather's room. One by one the desk drawers and cabinets he opened, hoping he could find a clue in this place. Piles of useless papers he found on the table. In his next drawer, he found several photo albums. The opening of the photo album, all about the photo of Carina's stepfather who was in a tourist spot. In each photo, Carina's stepfather always wrote the date and location where the photo was taken.
Lee opened each sheet. A photo was taken on January 3, 2000, in the Alps, Switzerland. Lee's cornea rounded to read the photo, "This photo was taken twelve years ago, the location and year of the same incident as the killing of Hazal's parents. Means Carina's stepfather was there at the time of the incident. But who's the man next to her?" muttered Lee who spoke to himself staring at the photo he had in his hand.
It was taken out of the wrapping plastic, "Max Walden and Ted Baxter, two scary bears." A sentence written in a foreign language that Lee did not understand. The man could only mean that the man who was with Carina's stepfather was named Ted Baxter. Soon Lee folded the photo sheet and stuffed it into his shirt pocket.
While Lee was still busy in Carina's stepfather's room, the girl came out of her room, as she no longer heard Lee's voice. Carina moved her legs, looking for Lee's figure, but she did not find him. The girl was relieved, just walking a few steps from her room, she heard something in her stepfather's room. "Has Max gone home? But why didn't I hear her screams calling my name? Or maybe some bad guy comes into the house?" Carina wondered to herself.
"Lee !!!" screeched Carina in her surprised tone.
"Are you that angry with me? Until you kill me with that stick?" asked Lee who was staring intently at Carina's bead eyes.
"A.a. I thought you were... You've come home, and I thought there was a thief coming into my house" said Carina, nervous and ashamed of her actions. Then Lee took the bat from Carina's hand and threw it on the floor. Then he held Carina's hand, and invited her to sit on the bed.
"Because you're out of your room, please give me a chance to explain this to you" Lee said. This time Carina could not refuse Lee's request. He wanted to close his ears or run away from his home. He did not want to hear any more lies from this man before him. But he could only sit quietly listening to Lee's explanation.
"I know you're still mad at me, maybe even hating me. This time I want to be honest with you. It all started with me coming to Italy with my three friends. My goal here is to help find the killer of Hazal's parents. She was the lover of Japheth, the man you met in that house and who hit me. That night we had fun at the club' night, the place where you worked. I look at you and I look at you. My feelings at that time.I was really very interested in you. Until then we met behind the club's night, I saw your stepfather strangling your neck. Actually I have no intention of interfering in your affairs, because we are strangers here. But my humanity tells me I have to help you" Lee said.
Then Lee continued his story, "When Japheth realized that your stepfather was one of the people we were looking for, he gave me an idea to approach you. I agreed to his plan, hoping I could get information about your stepfather out of your mouth and I could have fun with you."
Hearing that, Carina could only hold back the anger in her heart, her hand shaking. Her tears rolled back down her face, "So it was all a lie? Your love for me? And the freedom you offer me? It's not true and it won't happen?" carina asked with her sobs. He cried and closed his mouth. How stupid of him.
Lee exhaled, his eyes looking up at the ceiling of the room, "I'm sorry... To be honest right now I don't know my own feelings for you. But about freeing you from your stepfather, it's not a lie. I promise you, I'll get you out of here. Even though I have to argue with my friends."
Carina just looked at Lee's bead. Just like Lee, he was also unsure, whether his feelings for Lee were love? If it wasn't love, why would her heart be so sick and sad to hear this truth.
"I'm not asking you to forgive me or trust my feelings, but I just want to ask for your help, Carina," Lee said half-begged. He realized Carina still couldn't believe it.
Carina wiped her tears and said, "Alright, I'll put my feelings aside. I will help you, because if my stepfather is the murderer, then I will support you to put him in prison." Carina could not wait to see the destruction of her stepfather. A predator who has destroyed his future.
Suddenly Carina stood up and took out a square-shaped wooden box of not-so-large size that was hidden under the bed. "I don't know what you're looking for is in this box or not, but it's been locked for a long time and I didn't dare to open it," said Carina who put the wooden box on the bed.
"Do you have the key?" ask Lee.
"I don't know where my stepfather hid the key, he always forbade me to touch or move the box from its place" Carina replied.
"There must be something hidden here. Give me your bat," Lee asked. He took the bat from the floor and gave it to Lee. The man hit the iron padlock hard with the stick in his hand. One time.. twice.no change...he was hit once again for the third time, the padlock was detached from the hook.
Lee and Carina opened the wooden box together, they saw three passports issued by the Turkish embassy under the name Max Walden. "Max Walden is my stepfather's name" Carina explained. Without Carina explaining Lee already knew. They opened the contents of the passport and it turns out Max has visited Turkey several times since 2000 until now. Besides Turkish passport, there is also a savings book belonging to one of the banks in Italy on behalf of Max Walden and a non-cash check sheet with a nominal of five thousand US dollars with a disbursement date next Sunday. Lee noticed the name of the checker Ted Baxter. "What's his relationship with Max?" ask Lee.
"I don't know, I've even just heard her name now" Carina replied. Then Lee took out a photo of Max from his shirt pocket and showed it to Carina.
"This is a photo of Max and Ted Baxter in the Swiss Alps twelve years ago, which means Max has a relationship with this guy named Ted Baxter. Even Ted gave him money almost every month" explained Lee who opened Max's savings book and saw monthly transactions on the savings account of Carina's stepfather.
"What is their relationship?" ask Lee to himself and to Carina.
Carina took the photo and clearly saw the man named Ted Baxter. She vaguely remembered the man's face, but where she had met him.
"Oh yes, I remember now." cried Carina with excitement. "He was Max's friend. I met her on the day of my mother's wedding and funeral" Carina said.
"Does Max speak Turkish?" ask Lee.
"Yes, I often hear him when he calls someone. But I'm sorry I don't understand what he's talking about" Carina replied.
"BINGO," cried Lee who made Carina surprised. Either this is all a coincidence or he will discover the truth.
"I will make him have no choice anymore" said Lee who stared intently at the findings and smiled full of mystery. Soon Lee collected his precious find and kept it in his pants pocket. While Carina returned the wooden box to its original place.
