AutoTerra: Operating Systems

AutoTerra: Operating Systems
Chapter 73: The Re:Set System

Silent, quiet, and a little dark in one of the most important rooms in the Genetics section. Astan was a little stunned when he heard Edrick's answer about what they had just found.

System Re:Set? Something strange and very new is accepted by common sense. All this time, they only knew that the AutoTerra System was the only operating system of life that humans used to improve abilities, becoming stronger. But this time, there is another system they just discovered, and this system is man-made.

It's unbelievable.

“System? You sure it's the system?” tanya Astan couldn't believe it.

Edrick holds hands. “You must have previously been told that the Feron Company committed a violation of an illegal experiment duplicating the AutoTerra System, and this is the result of that experiment.”

Both of Astan's eyes again looked at the glass tube, precisely in the direction of the meat-coated chip and the veins beating. At first he did not believe there was a human or anyone that was able to duplicate a living system as complicated as AutoTerra. But by looking at the evidence directly managed to make Astan stunned.

“So, this is the system?” ask Astan again to make sure.

Edrick stepped closer to the tube. “Yes, I'm sure this chip is from System Re:Set. Try me checking my system.”

Edrick's System Panel appears, trying to scan the object and send the data to the panel.

[Object: System Chip Re:Set version 0.2.9]

[Origin : Unknown]

[Maker : Unknown]

[Warning! Program code failed to detect]

[Warning! Dangerous objects. Identified as aggressive object]

Its system panel immediately vanished after giving various warnings. If you have been given that much warning, it means that the chip is really a very dangerous object. They need to be more careful about finding it.

“System AutoTerra states that this is indeed a System Chip Re:Set version 0.2.9. That means, Feron Company has made Re:Set System several times with various previous versions,” said Edrick began to analyze.

“Do you know the details of System Re:Set what this is like?” ask Astan again. “What are the possible features and how they work exactly the same as AutoTerra?”

“If duplication, of course there are similarities. But because of the different systems, there are certainly some differences as well. If it is not wrong, the information used evidence I mean also brought in the system storage.”

Edrick opens a new panel of the AutoTerra System, opening up one of the information data he carries. The data contained details of the Re:Set System, the evidence obtained three years ago and used at the Feron Company trial.

“Ah, meet.” Edrick started reading it, “System Re:Set is used to improve user capabilities, just like AutoTerra System. There are leveling up features, unlock capabilities, and so on. The difference is that this system is aggressive.”

Instant pause for a moment, “….Yes, your system said also—.”

“I mean, aggressive in the sense of harming.” Edrick continued, “From this information, System Re:Set has very serious side effects, especially in parts of the brain. Among other things, it can damage the performance of the brain, affecting its users with various things provided by the system.”

“Affects..?” Astan thought for a moment. “I mean, this system can control or brainwash its users?”

Edrick shook his head, obliterating the system panel. “At least accurate, I guess. The information just explains that. But, that was already strong enough evidence to punish the Feron Company. Yes, that's also because there are other evidences that go along with it.”

After that explanation, Edrick recalled what had happened to Astan when he had just caught up with him. He saw Astan so limp and almost lost his balance. If only he hadn't been wearing a helmet, maybe Edrick could have seen how pale Astan's face was.

“Gosh. That was you why? Did something happen to you?”

Behind Astan's helmet bit his lower lip. He hesitated to tell her what happened to him.

“A-me...” Astan held his head with one hand. “I experienced something strange while observing the system chip.”

“Something weird?” edrick was confused.

“Iya.” Astan is a little down. “When I observed System Chip Re:Set, suddenly my head hurt. At that moment, it was like I saw something happen. The incident happened exactly in this room.”

For a moment Edrick watched the lab room, trying to guess what was going on with Astan's mind. Once the chairman thought, maybe the experience of Astan is a sign that his mind is trying to remember something.

“What kind of events?” ask Edrick.

“What kind of thing is it, Astan?”

Edrick realized something. Astan's mind has a strange vision because it is triggered by a chip from the Re:Set System. The possibility of the chip has something to do with the events in Astan's mind.

“Is that thing similar to those chips?” Edrick pointed the chip inside the tube.

Astan followed his direction. His brain was trying to match the chip to the thing he saw in his mind. Come to think of it, the size does look the same. But Astan is still not convinced. Is it true that the thing that the person handed over is a Re:Set System Chip?

“Iya. The size is exactly the same, but I'm not sure if it's a Re:Set.” System

Edrick's a little out of disbelief. His eyes turned several times towards Astan, chip, Astan, chip, and so on until the chairman began to assume various kinds.

Slowly Edrick stepped back, making Astan confused to see the response of the chairman who suddenly became strange.

“Edrick? Chairman Edrick, what's up?”

“Astan...” Edrick muttered inexplicably, “Don't you—.”

“Chairman Edrick! Astan!”

Both of them spontaneously turned their heads towards the Bery figure who appeared to have just arrived at the entrance of the room. Astan and Edrick try to get back to being ordinary. The atmosphere of that gig cannot be known to Bery. It still has to do with Astan's real identity.

However, Edrick still had time to think that what appeared in Astan's mind was likely indeed a memory. Some evidence that Astan was amnesiac and had been on this ship are objects found in lockers, as well as strange thoughts that suddenly arise due to being triggered by system chips.

What makes Edrick feel uneasy is the possibility of Instant's connection with the Re:Set System Chip.

Edrick was still pondering, but hopefully the estimate wasn't right.

“You have completed your task?” ask Edrick after trying to win himself back.

Bery checked the system panel. “Already. I've already obtained enough data about those monsters. As a result, they were indeed the kind of Dungeon monsters that were deliberately brought for research materials.”

“I've expected ‘kan, they're Dungeon.” monsters Instant ruffled waist.

“Hehe…. That's right you said, Tan.” Bery pats Astan's shoulder. “There's also a point in learning about Dungeon monsters.”

Astan becomes uncomfortable having to lie to Bery if he learns the Dungeon monster's knowledge because he's a hunter.

“So...”.

Bery took out a flash drive from inside the system storage, gave the small object to Edrick.

“I'm handing you the results. You're most responsible for storing all the important data from our mission, aren't you?”

Edrick took the flash from Bery. “Yes, of course. You've been working well, Private Bery. Thank you.” Then the flash disappeared into the storage system owned by Edrick.

Bery peeked behind his two colleagues, finding a mysterious glass tube mounted on top of a series of complicated machines.

“Not a problem, Chairman. But, it looks like you guys found something much more interesting than what I got,” comments Bery.

Astan and Edrick turned to the tube, realizing that Bery meant it.

“Iya.” Edrick said, “We found something we've been looking for. One of our main targets, System Chip Re:Set.”

“Chip system?”

The two let Bery get close to the tube. His eyes widened in disbelief when he saw the shape of the chip, black in color enveloped in flesh and veins beating.

“This? System?”
