AutoTerra: Operating Systems

AutoTerra: Operating Systems
Chapter 12: Mavin L. Vladiskov

The Ribelo Orbit Force is a special military force serving on the planet Ribelo, and also one of the space military forces that take an important role in maintaining the peace of the entire solar system.

The Ribelo Orbit Force has three major groups scattered in each orbit of Planet Ribelo, namely the Ribelo-I Group in western orbit, the Ribelo-II Group in southeastern orbit, the Ribelo-III Group in eastern orbit. Each of the group's headquarters is outside the atmosphere of Planet Ribelo.

One of the five battalions of the Ribelo-II Group, the Y13 Aturna Battalion is currently messing around with a mission that has been two weeks more could not be completed.

Actually, this mission was done three years ago, but was canceled due to repeated failures and other causes. This time, the same mission was reopened. And the result remains the same, failing.

Inside one of the command rooms located at the headquarters of the Ribelo-II Group, the south-eastern orbit of Ribelo. The staff were busy reconnecting the communication signal with the last team of troops sent to the mission, but still there was no result.

A man standing in the middle of the only table between the monitor barracks where the staff worked was standing waiting for results. He was seen wearing a more conspicuous uniform than the others accompanied by a special coat. On the table in front of him, a hologram shows the shape of the planet Ribelo itself.

“How was the result?” ask the man in a calm tone.

“Report, Commander Mavin.” One of the female staff reported that she was busy fiddling with computers. “Our communication signal is still not connected to the Raven Team on the Space Ship Feron 072.”

Mavin restores his blond head. Again they failed to connect communication with Team Raven who was assigned to search for important data on the wreck of the Space Ship Feron 072.

I don't know what really happened to them. Obviously, something is not right there. The mission three years ago failed several times, communication was cut off, without any news. And now three teams, including Team Raven, from the battalion have also lost communication.

“Already expected, this is not an easy thing,” murmured with a heavy heart.

“How is this, Commander Mavin?”

A man in his 30s in a formal uniform appears to be standing next to Mavin holding a tab.

“It has been four days we tried to connect communication with Team Raven, but the result is the same as the previous teams, failed,” said the man in uniform. “Actually, what was there to make so many teams of troops die in vain?”

“We still need to find out, Deputy Commander Harnan,” Mavin said. “Data stored on Feron 072 is a valuable asset of BioEmerald. Ribelo's government needs those assets to meet the BioEmerald penalty that dares to embezzle government funds with Feron.” Company

“Commander, there is a call connection from General Gabrielo,” said one of the female staff.

“Gosh. Jendreal Orbit Forces direct?”

Mavin was quite surprised when he heard the connection call from the direct leader of the entire Ribelo Orbit Force. Usually this task is delivered by the Group's Grand Commander, but it seems like the government on Planet Ribelo really needs those assets.

“Ekhem!” Mavin cleared his throat, trying to break his nervousness. “Connect.”

“Good, Commander.”

Then the largest hologram screen appeared before them, revealing the figure of a well-built adult man and a whisker that had turned slightly whitened. He also wears formal attire, proving that he has now not served in the field directly.

“Honor to General Gabrielo Abraham!”

“Sincerely!”

Mavin and the staff in the command room saluted in front of the hologram. Gabrielo saluted in return.

“Thank you, Commander Mavin.”

When Gabrielo lowered his hand in a respectful reply, Mavin and the staff also followed.

“Commander Mavin, if I've contacted this battalion directly, then you already know what I'm expecting of you,” Gabrielo said on the monitor. “Now, tell how the results of the mission to Feron Ship 072.”

As Mavin lowered his head, biting his lip, hesitating to tell the truth that again their team failed in the line of duty. But no matter what happens, he still has to tell the truth.

“I'm sorry, General. Our last team again failed the mission,” said Mavin with a heavy heart, “We have tried to contact them for four days, but the connection is completely disconnected, vanished without cause again.”

“Again..?”

The general's breath was heard, proving that he also felt hard to accept this fact.

Moments later, Mavin closed his eyes, trying to be ready to receive as bad a response as Gabriel had to give him.

Die Mavin….

“…. Already three teams are missing without news on the ship?”

Gabrielo rubbed his face. “You've only served as battalion commander for six months now, haven't you? This time the mission always failed. Indeed, three years ago even other space special forces also failed to carry out this mission.”

“What kind of demons are hidden inside the ship. It's very irritating. Actually, if I could close this mission, I would definitely close it so as not to take many more fatalities. But the court needs strong evidence to sentence the BioEmerald. If not, there is a chance BioEmerald will be free.”

“Free?” Mavin was surprised to hear that.

“Iya. Without complete evidence, the trial is not going, BioEmerald will never be haunted by guilt.”

“Different from the Feron Company which three years ago was successfully disbanded and found guilty of embezzlement of funds for illegal experiments duplicating the AutoTerra System, BioEmerald has only a few weeks been allegedly involved in this case as well, and much of the remaining evidence of his involvement is in the Feron 072. Hence, this mission reopened.”

Three years ago, a mission to search for valuable assets belonging to the Feron Company; companies in the field of medical and pharmaceutical technology, which is on the Space Ship Feron 072 was carried out. However, because the evidence was strong enough to hold the company, the mission to Feron 072 was closed.

Recently, there has been some evidence to prove that the biological technology organization BioEmerald was also involved in embezzlement and illegal experiments conducted by the Feron Company.

BioEmerald was suspected of having intervened in the case as the BioEmerald Organization also joined other major organizations and companies in the GT624 rocky planet terraformation project.

Many from various government agencies across Planet Ribelo gave massive funding for the terraformed project, but the project continues to experience obstacles due to the lack of funds that are too fatal and unreasonable.

Parties to various military units and space security agencies are investigating all organizations and companies involved in embezzling funds. It was unexpected that only two organizations and one company from dozens of organizations cooperated cleanly from the embezzlement, the rest were found guilty.

The reasons vary, some embezzled funds of that magnitude for their own greed, channeled to their own companies or organizations, to conduct various illegal experiments that are not at all important or even detrimental to society.

There are various strange experiments conducted from the results of the embezzlement of terraformed funds, and one of the experiments is to duplicate the AutoTerra System into a more aggressive system, this is an experiment belonging to the Feron Company. And BioEmerald is suspected of being involved.

“Entah what kind of system resulted from the experiment duplicating that AutoTerra System. If it has taken a lot of casualties from military teams, it means the results of the experiment must be very dangerous.”

Gabrielo sighed again, “….If this continues, I'm not sure if—.”

“Sorry to interrupt, General! But, allow me to return to carry out this mission,” Mavin's advice firmly, “I will again send the best team to do data retrieval or assets on Feron 072. This time if I fail, I will accept the risk of being demoted as Commander of Y13 Aturna Battalion, or even fired from the space military unit.”

“Commander Mavin..”.

Harnan's eyes widened in surprise at his superior's statement. For the implementation of this mission, Mavin willingly risked his position and position as a member of the space military special forces.

Mavin's struggles over the years, from serving in a military academy, to working as a soldier, to the unexpected achievement of being a battalion commander at the age of 26 would be lost if this one mission failed.

Seeing Mavin's earnestness, Gabrielo's feelings were touched. The blazing eyes of a space soldier like Mavin are the rarest Gabriel has encountered in decades as the leader of the Ribelo Orbit Force.

“Good.” Calmly Gabriel decided. “This is your last chance to prove that you deserve to lead the Y13 Aturna Battalion. If you fail, be prepared to say ‘goodbye’ to your posts and professions in military agencies.”

“Until we meet again, Commander Mavin L. Vladiskov. I really expect good news from you.”

The video call ended, and the hologram screen disappeared. The atmosphere in the command room became increasingly tense. Seeing how tense Mavin was communicating with Gabriel made Harnan feel concerned about the commander's mental health.

Harnan's eyes looked forward, precisely to the former appearance of the hologram screen for the video call earlier.

“I didn't expect that you would actually decide to keep taking that damned mission by risking— Gosh, Commander!”

Harnan was surprised to see Mavin banging a brick obtained from the AutoTerra System storage into his head until it was destroyed.

Indeed, Mavin has a strange habit of always storing bricks in the storage of his system. Usually the stones are deliberately used to bang his head when he felt failed in carrying out the task.

You could say, a small punishment for himself.

“Why do you always keep those useless stones just to melu—.”

“No, Deputy Commander Harnan Prakoso.”

Mavin dropped the shattered remains of a brick crumb on his right hand that was enveloped by black gloves. His eyes looked sharp, full of seriousness.

“I did this to make myself aware that I had to do my best for the truth. I'm not mentally affected, Deputy Commander. The impact of this stone on my head is not how heavy of the dozens of fatalities I sent to the Feron Space Ship 072.”

When he thought so, Harnan really could not say anything. The small and strange thing that Mavin just did was a form of guilt and self-awareness to stay focused on his responsibilities.

“Then, what should we do now?” ask Harnan.

Mavin bit her lower lip. This time, he had to devise an even more mature plan to complete this mission. He did not want the same failure to happen again.
