"Why? Why Emma? You always can't beat me." The magic chancellor cussed in annoyance in his mind. He could not help but get angry when all his attempts to get into the conscious realm of Anne Drigory failed. Countless failures for failure. How hard and strong the magic he always used, still the protective seal magic embedded in Anne could not be penetrated.
Almost 18 years the Chancellor tried to get into the conscious mind of Anne Drigory. Since Anne was 4 years old. None of his attempts at it worked. It seemed like the magic seal embedded in Anne's body was extremely powerful. It didn't even collapse even though it remained in combat until now.
I don't know what's inside Anne, so the Chancellor of Magic really wants to get into her subconscious. One thing is for sure, there is an incredible empire within Anne. It is also of interest to the demon clan since 18 years ago.
Still in that dark room. The magic circle seemed to light up. In the center Anne with chains on both arms floated unconscious. Purplish glow, looks graceful at a glance even though there are many scars, bruises and incision lines.
Magic experiments, until physical violence has passed. 18 years is not a short time. Anne went through it all without knowing her faults and sins. His mind was crushed, crumbling like a lump of hard rock that shattered into dust. Nothing left.
There is never happiness. His life he spent as a prisoner and the object of trial and even physical violence. His heart was broken, his mind was broken.
He never learned magic despite having Drigory's blood. The blood of one of the most talented families in terms of magic. In fact, he did not even know the current state of the world. The only knowledge he knew was that he was himself an object of research because of the mistakes of his parents and family.
4 Years old is enough for him to understand that at the time of 18 years ago. All his family were slaughtered for the sins they had committed. The only one who still has Drigory's blood is her.
Seeing the deadlock once again, the Chancellor growled. "Stop, just get here." The magic chancellor looked at Anne sharply. The anger in her eyes did not go out, it was always burning if she saw Anne's face that was similar to Emma Drigory's. Apparently, he finished the experiment today. See no progress over 18 years. It was always hindered by magic superior to what they had been doing to Anne.
Although previously seen progress but once again, failed. Magic from the Drigory family is not to be underestimated.
The witches who had been curbing and directing magic at Anne stopped chanting. At once, the purplish light was no longer visible on Anne's body. He also fell hard to the floor. He no longer floated, now lying unconscious on the dirty floor full of bloodstains. It fell hard enough, leaving a wound.
"Take him to his room!" The Chancellor turned away from Anne. Shortly after the command, several witches began to raise Anne's two arms still unconscious. Anne shed tears in her unconsciousness.
Shortly after the Chancellor turned. Another witch came in and faced. The witch looked down. "Report from master Clivard, he is currently on his way to the Chancellor's residence along with the subject of a new magic nucleus." Rigorously.
"alright.. Then do the preparation of the offering ceremony. We must immediately recover the protective power source of this city." Reply, walk out of the room.
Meanwhile, outside the city Lockdown looks still the same. It's pitch-black, there's no light. Because the black clouds are still closing the moonlight that should illuminate tonight perfectly. The moon is bright enough even though it is not full.
Different from before, this time it started to sound a small rumble. The occasional flash was visible from the dense clouds that covered the sky. Signs of a storm that did not appear early last night, now began to appear as the night thickens.
Not far from the semi-permanent settlement. Being between the rocks and the rest of the rubble of the building was destroyed after the battle that occurred last night.
Neyah sat leaning against one of the collapsed buildings. He was unconscious after someone attacked him suddenly. There was no chance to dodge as he instantly fainted without being able to retaliate.
His hands move slowly. The intensity of his breath began to rise, both eyes that were closed seemed to move. Like it's going to open. His voice sounded soft, he grimaced in pain on his right shoulder. "Ahc." his eyes were open, but still faint.
Dark, there was only a small flame in front of him. Neyah who was still half conscious raised her left hand. He examined his stiff right shoulder as a result of the hard impact he had received before losing consciousness.
A moment after his memory recovered, Neyah got up as quickly as she could. His heart rate increased when he recalled a moment before. Neyah looked around and saw a bonfire in front of her not far away, but also not so close. When all his senses begin to function normally, he realizes that he is currently being kidnapped. With a gasp of breath, Neyah shouted at the man sitting in front of her. "Who are you!? What do you want? Where's this!?" He said, ready to attack at any time.
The man in front of him was sitting casually on a small rock that he made a bench to sit on, in front of him was a campfire. He stared at the fire and did nothing to Neyah from the beginning.
"Hey.. Hey answer me!?" Neyah started to provoke. He is very ready to attack. With all his strength and determination, he glanced at the man. Watching his every move. His eyes narrowed, watching the man's face.
The man was nice to him. Staring sharply with glowing red eyes. The reflection of the firelight from his red eyes. "Calm down.. I won't hurt you magic knight." Said the man.
"You!?" Neyah recognized the face. How not, he had already met twice with the man who was currently in front of him. "Red." Her speech.
"I'm sorry.. I didn't mean to hurt you. I just wanted to ask you something." The man was Richard.
Neyah stopped putting on her serious face, she walked slowly towards Richard. There was no longer any intention to attack because he knew that Richard was not a threat, nor did he feel the urge to kill or do anything strange to him.
Even so, Neyah was still on guard. However, Richard had kidnapped her, even though he did not know the real reason.
Richard glanced at Neyah. Pale white skin looks beautiful when exposed to the light of orange fire, the flame of the fireplace in front of him. Pointed ears and long hair at a glance charming. The dark blue eyes stared warily at him.
Richard watched the elven woman grab onto his right shoulder, just where he slammed his palm hard to make her faint. "Sorry for the surprise attack, otherwise I strike hard maybe you won't faint." He looked away at her face
Arriving in front of the campfire, Neyah slowly sat down in front of Richard. Neyah was quite tense looking at Richard's expressionless face. "So, just go straight. Mr. Red wouldn't do this without a compelling reason, would he?" Neyah's question was convincing.
Richard raised his gaze again, looking at Neyah full of question marks. Neyah continued. "If you just ask ordinary questions, then Mr. Red will not make me faint and take me to this place, right?" Neyah looked around, no one. There is no settlement. Just the two of them and the former building collapsed the result of the fight last night. Quite far from the semi-permanent settlement that was just completed in waking up this afternoon.
The sound of wind was heard, quite loud. Bringing the cold. Along with that, a flash struck.
Neyah looked up at the sky. There are no stars and no moon. Even though it is dark, but the black clouds are clearly visible. Not to mention the small flashes appearing along with the rumbling of thunder. Looks like it's gonna rain soon.
"I wonder about one thing!?" Richard started.
"what's that?" Neyah looked, looking confused. His gaze was straight, paying serious attention.
"I want you to be honest.. Actually, what is the chancellor's plan for the inhabitants of this valley?" Richard's face this time was quite serious.
Neyah was silent, she still did not know the direction of Richard's conversation. He frowned, completely clueless.
"party? The food? And all the formalities that you gave to the inhabitants of the valley. What exactly are you planning?" Richard once again.
Neyah quiet. It seemed, he was beginning to understand where this conversation was headed. Even so, he still did not respond. Don't know what to say. Neyah tried to think positively, hoping that Richard's words would not be what he thought they would be.
As a knight of magic and protector of the interests of the city of Lockdown. Neyah doesn't have to answer Richard's questions. "aa.. What do you mean?" Neyah. He still doesn't want to talk. However, Richard was not the right person to know what the magic knights were actually hiding from the valley's inhabitants who were seeking refuge from them.
As a magic knight, he couldn't say anything to nope. Including Richard, even though he knew very well that Richard was not an ordinary person.
On the one hand Neyah was also unsure of Richard's question. The thing in his heart. Whether Richard asked about it because he did not know or already knew and wanted to make sure of it to him. He was upset, his mind was too negative instead of thinking positive.
Seeing Neyah's body gesture, Richard immediately knew that Neyah knew what she wanted to know. Richard took a breath. Looking at Neyah, his gaze was in full meaning.
"You know, I'm not a valley man. I'm just a lost wanderer who accidentally made it to this valley. Meet a lot of desperate people. They all sought refuge from the magic chancellor, though they could not enter the city."
"Too much suffering I see in this valley. They were all so excited to talk about the magic chancellor and magic knights like you. You're all heroes to them." Neyah looked at Richard, unmoved.
"Behind it all. I see misery, dependence and stupidity. They all look weird. Squeezy, sickly, lethargic and pathetic looking. Even so, they were always enthusiastic towards the magic chancellor. The people he said were protecting them. Protecting from the devil? Yes, demons. But from my observations it's not just that."
Neyah gulped. His mind was not at ease with what he had just heard from Richard.
"I think the magic chancellor is really good, providing protection even if not within the city. Provide free protection.. At first I thought so. Until I was really curious about the condition of the valley inhabitants."
Neyah raised her gaze. "A, what are you talking about?"
Once again a rumbling sound and a gale rang out, breaking the silence of a few seconds between the two of them. "Look at me Neyah.. Your name is Neyah, isn't it?" Richard looked into Neyah's eyes.
Neyah looked away, she was disinclined and did not know what to say. He is reluctant and does not want to talk wrong.
"I could have been indifferent about this Neyah.. But the more I see those fools cheering for you, cheering for the chancellor of magic. The more sick I get of seeing them. I know Neyah.. The reason why you let them all settle around Lockdown and the reason why you're protecting them." Richard's Emphatic.
Neyah was stunned, her eyes wide open. Unable to say a word when he heard everything Richard knew. He was also confused, because how could Richard know something like this.
Neyah had mistaken. Although in his eyes Richard was a nope but he was one of the holy knights as well as someone who managed to get out of the labyrinth after being trapped for an entire year. With all his abilities and sensibilities, Richard knew all the strangeness from the first time he set foot in this valley. From then on, Richard began to observe and search for information with his abilities.
"I, I really don't understand what you mean, Mr. Red." Neyah looked down, not daring to look ahead. However, Neyah had to deny all of Richard's words for the sake of the city's security.
"I feel sorry for them.. So adored the magic chancellor. Without them noticing, the aura of their lives slowly dissipated. Suck into the high pillars that became the pillars of the great wall that surrounds the city of Lockdown."
Again, Neyah was stunned. He lowered. I dare not look at Richard. In silence he did not expect that Richard could know the details that happened to this valley. It should be the secret of the magic knights, the magic consulate council and the chancellor. Even residents of the town of Lockdown who do not have the rank and title of a magic consulate council do not know this.
"If you still don't want to talk, then I won't force you. Just looking at your expression makes me sure that what I'm saying is true." Richard's Emphatic.
Richard stood up from where he was sitting, looking at Neyah who was fixated on the ground. Staring down, there was no courage to raise your eyes. The view of Richard. His mouth was locked, eager for him to deny it.
"If you don't want to talk, then I'd better go." Richard moved on after saying that. Footsteps were heard along with the sound of the sweep of the wind as soon as he turned around.
"That's.. That's the price they have to pay for them to get protection from us." Neyah spoke spontaneously in a slightly loud voice. He was still looking down, not daring to look at Richard. He cannot deny the facts that have just been revealed Richard.
Three steps ahead of him, Richard stopped. Back turning. "That's it..." Flat reply.
The simple answer was hard enough for Richard. In his mind he could immediately draw a conclusion. "You give them protection and the payment is their soul. The aura of their lives sucked slowly towards the four highest pillars of the wall. That aura of life was what became the city's protective energy source. Protecting you witches from various attacks. Like that, isn't it?"
Neyah raised her gaze. "Yeah." Yeah." Rigorously. "Master Red who are you? Why do you know this?" Neyah stood up, increasingly curious about Richard's origin. How could a nope possibly know the great secret that existed in this valley.
What are the facts about their previous meeting. At the first meeting Richard easily resisted his brother's powerful attacks, the second meeting of the Dwarf grandfather said that Richard had managed to withstand the onslaught of two top-level demons at once and the third meeting at this time. Richard plainly knew the secret behind the power of Lockdown's city's defensive walls.
"I'm just a wanderer, I told you." Richard replied indifferently. Richard turned around, he stepped back. Away from the campfire and Neyah who was still standing with various questions in her brain about the mysterious man who walked away from her.
"Wait.. Master Red! You already know this. Now what do you want to do?"
Richard stopped his steps. "I'm going to go inside the city, meet the magic chancellor."
"Ehh." Neyah stepped up, quite quickly towards Richard. "Wait for Mr. Red."
Richard didn't budge, he made up his mind. With that seriousness, he would stop all the stupidity and lies he had just learned. Seeing expectant people being played like this. He can't control himself. How could he be indifferent while knowing the terrible things that lie behind this valley.
"Mr Red, please stop your steps!" Neyah could understand how Richard was feeling. What happened in this valley was truly terrifying. Neyah knew that well, but she could do nothing. He was a magic knight who had to accept this ugly reality. There was no other choice to maintain the existence of Lockdown city other than this monstrous system.
Richard no longer looked at Neyah. Surely he stepped. Walk towards the gate.
The roar of thunder and lightning that came out from the dense clouds of night was increasingly visible. Quite loud this time, making anyone who heard it would be sure if tonight there would be a rainstorm around the valley.
Strong winds began to feel. Sweeping up the dust from last night's fight. His sweep also made some tree branches from the forest that was to the east of the valley move and fall.
The sound of the leaves sweeping was clearly heard in this forest. Not just that voice. A strange, horrible voice was also heard. No one was aware because the distance of this forest was quite far from the valley where the semi-permanent settlement was located.
There was no light, only darkness and the sound of growling and the sound of footsteps. Sounds pretty much. Clustered slowly approaching the valley. Instantly stopped along with the raging of thunder.
The rain water began to fall, its splashing sound further disguised the strangely terrifying sound. Then, another voice sounded back. A voice accompanied by light began to be seen among the shady trees in the darkness.
The light widened, then opened right in front of a powerful demon. Alien, his monstrous aura and distinctive laughter sounded. "Chichichis... Time for the main meal." His voice grinned with his sharp teeth.
