“Back, son?” welcome Lukman to the arrival of Kinanti.
“Iya Father. Kinan abis studied first with Kala, so he came home a bit late. Sorry yes Father.” Kinanti struggled spoiled to her father.
“Yes is okay. Where was it?” Lukman looked out the window to look for Kala. Usually the teenager went down first and even went to dinner.
“Directly go home dad. There's a similar event his family.”
Lukman nodded in understanding. “Mandi first, Son. We'll have dinner together.”
“Okey Father. Kinan ke up first yes.”
“Iya. Dad wait at the dinner table.”
Kinanti immediately went up to the second floor, where her room was located. He took a shower so Lukman wouldn't wait for him for long. It was only about ten minutes that Kinanti was in her room. It immediately came down with its fresher and fragrant look.
“Such beauty Dad's son. Sit, Nak.” Lukman patted the spot beside him.
“Waah, this father cook himself?” Kinanti's eyes immediately fiddled to see the amount of food presented on the table.
“Iyaa, dad's work is done faster so Dad's time is a lot. From Bosen, I've been cooking. Eat a lot ya.” Lukman brings food closer to Kinanti.
“Makasih Ayaah Kinanti took out a piece of rice then took the side dish and put it on the plate. Lukman kept looking at his daughter, it was nice to see Kinanti in this spirit.
“Dad not eat?” I looked at Lukman's plate which was empty.
“Could you not if I asked to be bribed Kinan?” Lukman started sulking.
“Bby dong. Aaaa..” Kinanti feed the food into Lukman's mouth and the middle-aged man looked very happy. Her eyes were teary to feel the love of her daughter. Including when Kinanti rubbed the leftovers on the corner of Lukman's lips.
“Dad, someday, Kinan will buy food for Dad. Whatever you want, I'll just tell you. Okay?”
Lukman nodded. His eyes returned to tears until he almost shed tears. They go through a romantic dinner together as loving children and fathers. If Kinanti knew, that maybe the age of Lukman did not reach that time.
After dinner, Lukman invited Kinanti to watch television. He left his daughter who was watching a joke and made him laugh out loud. He went to his room to take medicine and take something for his daughter.
“Dad bring what?” ask Kinanti when she sees Lukman bringing a gift.
“Gift for Kinan. I hope Kinan likes.” The words of this middle-aged man sounded hopeful.
“Waah, his name is Kinanti sih would like. But Kinan is no longer a birthday, father.”
“Thank you don't have to be a birthday anymore. Whenever possible. So, open up.”
“Okey, Father.” Kinanti was so excited.
One by one the tape is removed. The more that missed, he was more curious about the contents of the gift. It turned out to be a box.
“Daddy want to make Kinan curious huh?” Kinanti tapped her finger on the plain surface of the box.
“Everything requires effort and preparation. Whether it was a good or bad surprise that Kinan would receive, Kinan obviously had to learn to accept it. That's what I want to teach Kinan.” Lukman rubbed Kinanti's head fondly.
“But where might dad give you a bad gift?” kinanti's forehead frowned not understanding.
“Iya Father. Kinan will remember Dad's message.” Kinanti leaned spoiled on Lukman's chest.
“Child pinter. Now, open up.” Without waiting for long, the gift was opened by Kinanti. With the help of Lukman.
“Yes,” Kinanti stared in disbelief at what she saw. A stetoscope, complete with a doctor's basic examination tool.
“Daddy is sure, Kinan will graduate to become a doctor. Whether it is a scholarship or not. One day, when Kinan met the patient for the first time, use these tools. Check them out with feeling. Heal every wound, not only his physical wounds but his mental ones as well. I'm sure, Kinan will be a great doctor.” Lukman said with all his heart.
Kinanti was speechless. He immediately hugged Lukman tightly while crying sobbing.
“Hey, why is Kinan crying?” lukman asked carefully. He tried hard to hold back his tears but in fact Kinanti tears that spilled first.
“Kinan scared Dad. Kinan was afraid to hear Dad's message. Somehow Kinan felt that Dad did not want to nemenin Kinan until Kinan succeeded later. Why is there too much preparation that you have made when Kinan just started Kinan steps. Why,..”
“Hey, babe...” Lukman immediately stopped the chirping of Kinanti that began to slur.
“That's not what Daddy meant. I just want to encourage Kinan. I want Kinan to know that do’a Dad is at every step of Kinan. You believe that, don't you, son?” lukman's tears came. His chest felt very tight and it felt like he wanted to cry.
Kinanti was still crying a mouthful. He felt that Lukman's words were so up to his deepest heart.
“Iya, Dad. Kinan understood,” said Kinanti with a voice that was still nasal.
Long enough the father and son embrace each other to strengthen each other. After feeling calmer, Kinanti tried her stetoscope. There was a part that he put in his ear and the tip he put on Lukman's chest. He listened to Lukman's occasional fast and occasional slow heartbeat. He tried to compare it with his own heart beat. Slightly different.
“Daddy tired ya?” ask Kinanti later.
“Kok Kinan can think Daddy tired?” Lukman asked back.
“Pad's heart sounds are inconsistent. Like people breathing, sometimes relief sometimes heavy. That's Dad.”
“Maybe because Dad's heart muscle isn't as strong as Kinan. Dad is old. So it's natural that the function of your organs begins to decline. Only the eyes of the father who increased the size of the lens.” Lukman deliberately prattled to tease Kinanti.
Kinanti does not chim. He just looked at his father's face with love. “Kinan darling Daddy. Dad was the best parent Kinan had. Kinan is grateful to be born from parents as great as Dad,” said Kinanti while rubbing the face of Lukman who began to wrinkle.
So many wrinkles on his face that indicate that this man is no longer young, his struggle is enough to make him tired. The weight of his body down even makes the body of this man look old, frail and not fresh. But Lukman always convinced Kinanti that he was okay. Yeah, Kinanti knows enough that he's okay.
“Dad also dear Kinan. Always dear Kinan and I believe that later Kinan will be a successful child. Not only does it boast of Mom and Dad, but it boasts of everyone who knows Kinan.”
“Aamiin, thank you Dad. Trust and do’a Dad is the thing that Kinan needs most in Kinan's life,” said the clear-eyed girl.
After an emotional chat with his daughter, Lukman returned to his room. She leaned against the door of her room crying. He did not even know how much longer he could accompany Kinanti.
The universe supports his sadness. Exactly when a message goes into its inbox.
“Goodnight Mr. Lukman. My permission reminds me that the second stage of therapy procedure will start tomorrow. We're waiting in the treatment room at nine in the morning. The spirit is always yes, Mr.” The message that made his heart break.
The hope that had originally appeared, was now extinguished again when he realized that he had failed his first therapeutic procedure. The cancer still gnaws at his body to this day. What other reason did he have to make of his daughter? Sacrificing Seno again?
