The First Night of Cana (Angel Without Wings)

Jihan looked down as Ferddy and Joddy looked at her in full search. The middle-aged woman who had been wearing a green prisoner shirt was seen covering something with her hair that was allowed to unravel.

"Mom, are you okay?" joddy asked, looking deeper.

"It's fine."

"Mother lied!" Ferddy flicked his mother's hair to the side, and saw a bruise on Jihan's temple.

Joddy was shocked to see a bruise on his mother's face.

"That's why Mom?" Joddy looked at his mother with a look of disbelief.

"Mom fell in the bathroom."

"It's not because of the other prisoners, is it, ma'am?" sahut Ferddy fast.

Jihan shook her head slowly. "Not Ferddy, where they could hurt grandmothers like this Mom." Jihan laughed trying to distract her two children even though she knew these two children were not easy to fool.

Hopefully Ferddy's conjecture and Joddy's isn't right. Hopefully, Jihan's injury was right from falling out of the bathroom.

"Ferddy, can you buy me some bruised ointment?" Actually it was just Jihan's excuse because she wanted to have a one-on-one conversation with Joddy. Unsuspecting Ferddy nodded then walked out of the room.

"What's a good night's sleep?" ask Joddy after Ferddy. Stupid question, of course Jihan couldn't sleep last night. Accustomed to sleeping in a comfortable place, Jihan was restless last night. It is cold and there are many mosquitoes. He was also forced to sleep crammed with other female prisoners. But he didn't want to make his children worry. So, Jihan just nodded.

"This is Joddy bringing blankets, clothes and other supplies and food for you."

Jihan stared blankly at the large suitcase beside the chair that Joddy was sitting in.

"Mother take it easy, Joddy will try to find a way to get you out of here."

Somehow Joddy's words sounded like comfort words in Jihan's ear. Get out of here? It doesn't feel easy. All the evidence points to him. Laras and Heru will never retract their demands, and Jihan is aware of it.

" Mommy." Joddy took Jihan's hands. Chilly. Is her mother really okay? Feelings no.

Jihan looked at Joddy with a sad look. "Mas, have you seen Kana?" ask Jihan.

"Already, Mom."Joddy was a little surprised why Mother suddenly asked about Kana.

" Is he still angry? " ask Jihan.

Joddy pensively for a moment. Whether Kana is still angry or not, Joddy doesn't know. But these days he hasn't contacted her because he's too busy with his office and his mother's problems. " No, Ma. Kana is no longer angry even though she has not forgiven Joddy completely. "

Jihan breathed a heavy sigh." It's not easy to forgive Mom. Same with both her parents. Mom hurt them so much. I'm sorry, Mas. Sorry for making things complicated. Mom was very selfish. Sorry about Mom. " Tears escaped when Jihan finished talking.

"Already, Mom. Don't think too much. Kana and her parents are Joddy's business. Mom now take good care of your health here. Believe me as soon as possible Joddy will get Mom out of here, and we'll get together with Kana and Mom's future grandchildren." Joddy forced a smile on his lips, although in fact his heart ached to see the state of his mother now. Women who are usually cheerful and always look fresh now look pale with eye bags that indicate how long he slept.

And the bruise on Jihan's temples may be true because of a fall in the bathroom.

"Mom would love to see Kana, Joddy. I want to apologize to her." Jihan rubbed her eyes, so that her gaze would not be blocked by tears.

"Yes, Mom. Later-"

"Sorry, the clock is 10 minutes." A prison officer approaches Joddy and Jihan interrupts Jihan's words. The mother and son looked at each other. Both forced smiles.

"Jaga your sister, Mas. She still needs you" Jihan told her firstborn.

"Mom don't worry. Take care of your mother's health. Don't forget to take your vitamins. Rest assured, I'll be out of here soon."

Jihan smiled thinly. Get out of here? It's dreaming. Jihan has only two options, stay here a long time or.... Die up!

The room where Laras is treated looks quiet there is only Laras who is sitting by leaning on a pile of pillows. Joddy y stared around the VVIP room which was like a room of a five-star hotel rather than a sick person's room. The walls are painted in green leaves, there are facilities such as refrigerators and mini pantry. Really, makes Joddy wonder if this is really a hospital room.

Joddy watched Laras, seen next to his cheek covered with a cassa cloth. It seemed like what his father said about Laras losing half of his face was too much. Joddy only saw the wound a few centi although it may not fully recover. Maybe he was just hit by a spark because as the police said yesterday, Joddy's father was protecting this woman. Joddy believes Laras and his money can recover it.

“Gue is sorry for what happened to your child!” Actually Joddy hesitated to say condolences to Laras because he was sure Laras would not respond.

“Oh, so you bothered to come here to say a condolence? Really, as a stepchild candidate you are very considerate.” Barrel smiled sarcastically.

“Gue apologizes for what Mom has done to lo.”

“Wah, and you apologize for your Mom? Why doesn't he come here alone?” The barrel then covers its mouth with the palm dramatically. “Oh, jeez I forgot your mom is going to stay at the prodeo hotel!” Barrel then giggled, a type of mocking laughter. 

"Please, tell your mother. Congratulations, happy old age in prison." Laras laughed again even this time his hands were patting both his thighs in an agony, as if what he said was something funny.

This time Joddy hesitates with Laras sanity. “Physical lo look healthy. But I doubt your mental health. For someone who has just lost lo looks ordinary.” Joddy said calmly . 

“You don't know anything about me.” Laras gave a sharp look towards Joddy and the bespectacled handsome man did not tremble at all.

“Indeed, I don't know anything about lo! When you cheated on Bokap, I also did not know anything. But don't think I'm stupid! The proof, I know if you guys want to guess me with a cheat that is very cheap for the size of you who are very educated.”

Laras's face turned tense upon hearing what Joddy said, but a few seconds later he burst into laughter.

"Whatever you say Joddy, the important thing is that I can get your father and his wealth. Besides, I can send your mother to jail and that's the jackpot." The barrel clapped then cheered like a footballer who managed to put the ball into the opponent's goal.

Joddy incubates in his heart, he must not be provoked by the emotion of his arrival to negotiate with Laras.

"Let's negotiate." Joddy doesn't want to linger here.

Barrel looked at Joddy. "I guessed it. Apology and condolences are just pleasantries. So, get to the point and let's see what offers from you are interesting."

Joddy clenched his hands tightly if it wasn't for his mother, didn't want him to come here and lower his pride in apologizing to the woman who had destroyed his family.

"Gue will be responsible for the cost of your facial reconstruction treatment, you can choose any hospital that you think is good. Origin -"

"Did I take away your mother's demands?" sergeant Laras. Joddy just kept quiet justifying Laras' speech.

Laras exhaled a rough breath then laughed mockingly. "My face can you compensate. But what about my dead son? Can you turn it on again?! Can it? No don't you?SO, IT'S NOT THAT EASY!!!" The barrel shouted in frustration then threw the glass on the floor.

"Gue knows Mom's wrong, but you're also wrong for having a relationship behind Mom's back. It hurts Baras. You should know because you're both female." Joddy stared at the broken glass.

"Mother's heart is like the glass you just slammed. Exact same. Broken to pieces and will never be whole again."

"That's none of my business. Your mother's heart's business is none of my business. Blame it on your father, he who is crazy about me", Laras replied sharply hoping that with his gaze Joddy could turn into ashes.

"But I have a better offer for you. You don't have to bear the cost of my facial surgery because I alone can bear it."Laras paused for a moment to see Joddy's reaction, but the handsome man just silently stared straight at Laras waiting for the words to come out of Laras' mouth next.

" Leave Kana and marry me. Then I will set your mother free" said Laras smiling triumphantly at Joddy.

"Hows it? Easy right? About your father, let him go back to your mother. Is that what you want?"

Joddy's dying to slap Laras if he wasn't a girl. "It seems free to negotiate with you!"

"Have you rejected my offer?" ask Laras not to believe.

Joddy smiled faintly and turned around to prepare to leave but his steps came to a halt as Laras called his name out loud.

"If you ever meet Mom, would you ask me what it's like to have a gift I sent as a welcome to prison?".

Joddy frowned at what Laras meant. The next moment he realized something.

"Lo"

"That's Joddy's little gift. New little gift and it doesn't feel much." Laras's sneer answered all the questions in Joddy's mind.
