"Tumben's grandfather called night after night" Darren said as he looked at the caller's name on the phone screen.
Hearing Darren's murmur, the spoon in Karen's hand fell down. His heart suddenly pumped up fast. Suddenly he was trembling. Because, he could suspect grandfather would talk about the photos that someone sent to the company.
"Hello, Cake."
"Darren, Grandpa wait for you and your wife at home now!" grandpa's orders put a firm intonation in his voice. Grandpa Aswono immediately hung up the phone after leaving that sentence.
Darren's forehead forms a crease followed by eyebrows that are almost connected. Just by hearing the voice alone, made him know that there was anger in a firm tone that had just been ejected from Grandpa Aswono's mouth. He looked at Karen who was still staring at him.
"Come, eat up! We're called grandfather to the house!" Darren went back to eating his cooking.
"Don't go!" karen said slowly, suddenly.
Darren turned his head with a face full of question marks.
"We don't have to go there, yes!" The woman's voice grew louder and almost drowned.
Darren again put down the spoon, then held onto Karen's cooling hand. "Why you?"
Karen remained silent. Pretty long. Just stared at Darren with eyes that started to fog.
"Why you?" repeat Darren again while squeezing warm the back of Karen's hand.
Karen shook her head. "I'm not going to Grandpa's house."
A fine laugh rose on Darren's lips. "We don't live there, really. Udah, just finish the meal now, let's go straight there and go home quickly too."
An hour later, they had set foot in the residence of the Darren family. The couple sat in front of Aswono's grandfather and Oma Belle. Since arriving at the house, Karen continued to look down and did not dare to look directly at her grandfather and Oma Darren. Just by looking at their expressions, a gripping air instantly filled the room.
"Do you know who this is?" ask Karen.
Karen stared at the photos that showed her during a traumatic event last night. He could only bow silently while squeezing the end of his clothes. Right what grandfather said in the office, this is so embarrassing! I want to slap her own cheek. Seeing himself with a foreign man in uncomfortable poses, who would not be mistaken?
Karen still locked her lips with her head bowed deeply. Just raising his head just does not dare, let alone speak to defend. It felt like drowning when Darren came to see the photos, even though the man actually knew the real story.
"Karen, Oma again! Not to be told to silence!" ketus Oma's.
"I–it's Karen, Oma," Karen replied in a trembling voice as she had to face the anger of grandfather and Oma.
"Do you know what you've done?" ask Oma Belle back.
Karen's fingers squeezed the edge of her shirt even more. Oma's question seemed to force him to recall the events he should have forgotten.
"Don't just shut up, it's like Limbad!" reprimanded Oma Belle who impatiently awaits Karen's answer.
Just as Karen was about to open her mouth, a large and warm hand instantly wrapped the back of her hand. Coinciding with that, Darren who had been silent earlier, suddenly said, "What did Karen do?"
"Can't you see those pictures!" Oma Belle pointed to the table, "Wife is wandering in such a place! It was with another man! She doesn't appreciate you as her husband. That includes infidelity too!" oma Belle said with deep anger.
"Just because of a photo that is not yet clear the truth, Oma immediately judge Karen like that? Something visible to the eye may not explain what happened, right?" said Darren who started putting up bodies for his wife.
Darren's defense made Aswono's grandfather who had been silent while crossing his arms, now saying, "What do you think the truth is? Would you say that the photo was engineered or edited? Is that?"
"Sorry, Grandpa, Oma. I don't need to explain anything and Karen doesn't need any confirmation. It's an internal matter for my family, my grandfather and Oma don't need to interfere. For sure .. I believe Karen and the pictures can't represent judgment on my wife" Darren replied. This action he did to reduce the fear and trauma that Karen felt due to the incident.
Not accepting the unsatisfactory answer from her granddaughter, Oma Belle turned to Karen. "Try Karen who explained it! Oma is really disappointed in you, Karen. Of all the women who Oma selected to be Darren's match, you were chosen. Oma was amazed by your concern when Oma passed out at the airport. But this time Oma really can't tolerate your actions tearing our family apart!" oma said as she recalled her initial meeting with Karen.
"I don't think we need to talk about this!" sahut Darren stood up while pulling the hand of Karen who was in his grasp. But the woman kept him.
"Grandfather, Oma, sorry Karen. The photo ... is not what it looks like. Karen doesn't know them. All of a sudden they took Karen and talked. They kept on maksa and narik me until ...." Karen's speech was interrupted, changing with a puddle of tears that slid out without being held back.
"Yes, it's your fault that you went to that kayak place!" the Oma Belle.
"It's my fault I can't take care of Karen. I should have always been next to him!" sahut Darren's.
"You're working. It's not your fault if he's why-why because to the kayak place that! Husband banging, wife banging price!" ketus Oma's.
Darren rubbed his face rough. "Oma, Karen's been there because she was framed. Someone's using her friend's account to get Karen down there! Oma said Karen herself has a caring nature, right? Since he cares about his friend, that's why he came to that place!" Darren, who was initially reluctant to talk about this problem, we try to straighten out the prejudices of Oma and her grandfather.
"stuck? It's like a soap opera groove! Wear being framed!"
It seemed that whatever their explanation, Karen remained wrong in the eyes of grandfather and Oma.
At the same time, there was a commotion at the main entrance. Aswono's grandfather, Oma belle, Darren and Karen compactly turned their heads. They were surprised to see Chalvin coming while forcibly dragging two foreign youths with faces that contained punch marks. The two young men then pushed forward, precisely in front of the four of them.
"Karen, these guys were the ones that bullied you last night, right?" chalvin asked with a gasp of breath.
Karen who still knows the face of the man who abused her, then stood up in fear and stepped back. Darren moved swiftly by pulling his wife into his arms. Hugged tightly and leaned Karen's head against her chest so as not to look at them.
"I'm sorry! We were just told to interrupt a girl, but she was even volunteering. So we were caliph, but we did not do anything, really," said one of the young men with a face that seemed to ask for forgiveness.
"You say you don't fuck around? Even if you just touch the end of his nails, I won't take it!" darren put the wolf's eyes on. He was about to approach the two young men, but Karen held him back by increasing her embrace.
"Who told you to disturb my granddaughter?!" asked Grandpa Aswono while standing up.
"Our friend has a crush on him, sir!" they answered quickly, "he deliberately lured the girl to come there, and we were told to disturb."
"Where Darren is, it's up to you to make two people how! The cave execution!" cetus Chalvin's.
Darren looked at Karen who shook her head and was reluctant to prolong the matter. Darren then said to Oma and her grandfather. "Oma and Grandpa understand, right? We can't see things from one point of view!"
Oma approached Karen while apologizing for the unpleasant words.
After all is clear and misunderstandings can be cleared up, Darren and Karen decide to go home. While walking towards their car, Karen recalls Darren's defense of her.
Karen held Darren's arm. When the man turned his head towards him, he immediately tiptoed and landed a brief kiss. The impromptu kiss surprised the man with a height of 189 cm.
"Thank you, yes, defend me" said Karen Lirih.
"I told you, everything will be fine." Darren smiled as he stroked his wife's cheek.
For a moment, the two pairs of eyes stared at each other in silence. As if attracted by a magnet, the faces of both of them approach each other until they close their eyes together as their lips stick perfectly. They kissed under the dim lights of the garden with tightly knit hands.
Not far there, apparently Chalvin accidentally saw them. The man turned around quickly, then held onto his left chest.
"What's with the cave feeling, huh?" he was confused himself.
