Chapter 17

…..

–Pov General–

After confirming Viper's death, and witnessing his body being cremated, Amon returned to the tribe in a satisfied spirit. The burning Abu Viper made Amon feel at peace, because he felt freedom after 8 long years.

While enjoying this feeling, Amon hummed as he returned to the tribe.

….

"Gr ..." Amon sighed, when he reached the village. "Now that the Viper is gone, this place feels like home" Amon said, savoring the smell of fresh sleeping gas. This type of sleeping gas did not affect Amon at this time, as he had previously conducted many experiments on his body with this harmless gas.

The entire tribe was 'sleeping', with only Amon awake. Still, he used [Haki's Observation] to check if everything was going smoothly or not…

Confirming the safety, Amon shook his head lightly. He's too skeptical. After all, unless he were to deploy a gas antidote, people had a 0% chance of waking up before the 3-day deadline.

However, Amon had no reason to wake them this early, as he began to enjoy a peaceful silence while walking towards the Chief's house.

Once there, Amon again checks whether Chief is awake or not using his Haki. Checking twice that the Chairman was also sleeping, he then started walking on the opposite side.

….

Ignoring his 'sleep' head and home, Amon goes to Viper's dead house. Entering without any inspection first, as if he were the owner of the house, Amon then went and sat down on the chair.

Here, unlike Amon's house which only has a bed and some accessories, the Viper house has chairs, a table, along with some other furniture in its room, Amon gives them a glimpse. Three days later all this will be his.

…..

Resisting his greed, Amon took out some paper from the desk drawer. Some of them were empty, but others contained Viper's handwriting in an ancient language.

"Fuhu."

Without wasting any time, Amon released his [Observation] in full force, concentrating it only on copying Viper's handwriting…

«…*…»

"That's just. Can't be trusted!"

"I know…"

Around the Viper hut, a large crowd gathered, containing almost every tribe. Except for Amon, who was severely injured after fighting with the Viper, so he couldn't even move.

Outside the hut, the Chairman stood with a piece of paper in his hand. The handwriting belonged to Viper.

"Sigh ..." the village chief sighed. "Everyone, listen." Hearing the chief's voice, everyone stopped their chatter. "As you have realized, we were unconscious for three whole days, and now, after we finally regained consciousness, we. 'apparently' lost the former Shandia warrior leader, Viper ...."

Hearing him, the tribe members again started chatting. They were shocked, but they were more confused.

“Alright, calm down..” the chief then raised his hand along with the paper. "You see this?" She said. "This is the letter left behind by Viper... Ah, and I've also verified this as her own handwriting..."

As everyone looked towards the paper, the village chief sighed. "Sighs... Now it comes to the contents of the paper itself..." He paused for a moment.

"It's like this, 'For my dear tribe members.

All my life, I've persecuted all of you... Even son. And I realize that apologizing now won't change anything. However, I will still ask for forgiveness for the last time ...

As for the reason for all this drama, it was because of the battle that happened last time .. To be honest, I was sure that I would win, however, I never in a dream would I have thought that I would lose to a child.

It took me a while to accept it, however, the reality was in front of me now, and I had also fully accepted it. However, even if I tried to change myself at the moment, nothing would work.

After all, now that I am injured like this, there is not much chance for me to change. She did what she had to do, and I don't seem to be being lenient with her." The chieftain then turned the page. He wrote too much before his death.

“Now, in this state, I'm practically useless. But as a warrior, I cannot accept this! I. I have decided to attack the Upper-yard tonight. I know, I'm gonna lose. However, instead of dying like this, lying in bed for the rest of my life, I wanted to die like a warrior. Just like my ancestors did... However, I'm sure, if I try to attack the Upper Courtyard normally, you guys will stop me.

So, I've been spreading sleeping gas everywhere. For that reason, you will not wake up for 3 days. Please stay safe, members of my tribe.”.

The head had a frown on his face, when he finished reading the letter out loud.

He called this the death of a soldier? How sad! Not only did he actually commit suicide, but he also rendered the entire tribe unconscious. What if an enemy attack happened last night? Isn't that what caused their slaughter?!

All the members of the tribe had thoughts like this. Even Erasers. Although he was very sad and, if possible, wanted to revive his father, he also felt ashamed that a man, who called himself a warrior, would act like this…. He could feel the gazes of those filled with anger on his back.

'W-why…. Don't look at me like that!' Wiper almost broke out crying. Not only was his father dead, now he was also looked at like this! 'It's not my fault!' He shouted internally.

…..

Chief sent some men to check if Viper was really dead, or if he was being held hostage.

The robbers, having reached the Upper Courtyard, and seeing the army of God partying while gossiping about the Viper cremation, returned without a fight. Now the whole tribe is convinced that the Viper is dead.

People were sad, however, they were still quite angry with what he was doing. Many even lost respect for him, as some even began to call him an openly coward.

But in the end, he was once the leader of those who had done some things for them. So they still attended the memorial service held for him at the cemetery in the southernmost part of the village. It was around the same place where the Viper flew last time.

Although one look from an adult is enough to stop their mouth, the adult realizes that the Viper name has been tainted, and in future generations, he will be seen as a coward.

'At least the one getting the limelight was none other than Amon, the current leader. That's a good thing.' They thought.

….

"Hey, Son! I told you to stay in your bed!" Saying this, Isa pulled the arm of Ammon that was about to fall first.

"Argh, let me go!" Amon staggered as he walked slowly while dragging his left leg which was rendered immobile. He went to Viper's memorial, it would leave an empty place in his heart if he didn't attend it.

However, Isa strongly opposed him, because he knew he should just lie in bed. After all, he was injured, if he moved too much, the wound might open again!

"You don't understand! He's uncle! How could I not be present at his memorial?" Amon said, as his eyes became teary. "At the end of the day, I'm technically the one who killed him."

Amon had a bit of a fight with Isa who now has a small bulge in his stomach. Proving pregnancy.

A few minutes later, Isa gave up as he accompanied her with Raki.

….

In the cemetery, the first thing he encountered was the crowd. As all the members of the tribe were present, while many of them glanced at him, their gazes became gentle.

They began to whisper, "Poor child, he lost his parents at birth, and the only blood relative he had, even he was dead..." Said one of them. "Even if Viper wasn't the best uncle, having relatives was better than nothing. No, along with Wiper, he's alone, too..."

The others joined in, "See her red eyes ... I don't know how much she cried ..." She said. "He must blame himself for all this..."

Amon ignored them as if he could not hear them at all, and looked at the corner of the crowd.

In the corner of the crowd, a child stood up. His head was down, and his eyes were full of tears. He was Wiper, who clenched his teeth at Amon. 'The bastard ... That bastard Amon is the root of all this.' thought the eraser.

Amon laughed in his heart. 'He must be cursing me now... I can even feel his emotions... Oh? Is this the progress of [Haki Observation]?' Thought Amon, surprised. 'Haaa, only good things happen after Viper's death.' Amon thought as he approached Wiper slowly.

…..

"...!"

Wiper's body jerked as she felt a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, cus..." That's Amon.

Wiper did not answer, and Amon did not say anything either.

The two just stared at the headstone in front of them, putting on a blank and sad expression. Soon Amon slowly opened his mouth. "You know, cus. This is so sad. He's our best soldier, and yet, we can't even do a proper funeral for him..."

Each of Amon's words made Wiper even more furious. As he clenched his fists. He wanted to scream, "Bag! It's all your fault!" But he knows this is wrong. After all, if he was in Amon's place, he would also try his best to win as well. And no one seems to expect Amon to win, not even him.

So, in the end, it was all Viper's own fault for deciding to prove his 'spirited warrior'.

Tears began to fall in a single line on her cheek, however, she still clenched her jaw.

Seeing this, Amon again sneered in his heart. But outside, he placed his hand on Wiper's shoulder and held her tight. Give him a soothing hug.

As he said, "If I were the place, I'd do the same ... sacrifice yourself for your tribe, or for someone you respect ..." Amon stopped and looked at Wiper with a smile. "For me, it was the most honorable death."

Wiper also looked at him, as Amon turned her gaze to the 'sky' with a smile.

However, there is no sky.

The sun is not there, the stars are invisible, the cloud vaults imprison them, isolating them from the outside world.

This was not alienating for the rest of the tribe, however, Amon, who had previously lived in an open habitat, hated this feeling of imprisonment. He wanted to be free, but stuck in this place, he himself felt alienated and stuck.

However, even though he was frustrated, he had enough self-control not to mess things up. Instead, use this as a weapon for yourself.

He then pointed his finger up. "You seen him?" She said. Everyone around looked at them. "We're supposed to be Great Shandia Warriors. Soldiers who fought alongside the Great Kingdom 800 years ago. But now," Amon paused for a moment, as he looked at not only Wiper but many others also looking towards him. "But now, we are just birds trapped inside a giant cage!!"

"".....""

Everyone was silent to hear it. No matter how much they call themselves "Great Soldiers", inside they all know their flow is just, as Ammon said, a bird in a cage.

"Wiper.", Ignoring his gaze, Amon looked at him. "I know you're sad. You might even be so mad at me that you want to kill me ... But" said Amon. "However, we have to move forward... We have to fight. Your father, my father, our ancestors... We must obey their wishes."

He then stopped talking and looked Wiper in the eye. He was slightly taller than her, so he looked at her. As he said with great determination, "I am strong, but WE are stronger! Let go of your revenge on me, your own blood. I want you to be strong. Strong enough to one day, if something happens to me, you can become a great leader!" Amon extended his hand. As he said, "Please promise me, O warrior Wiper, you, with me, will obey the orders of our ancestors!"

A few seconds passed, as people paid great attention to the two. Wiper's eyes began to widen while her mouth began to open, as she began to realize, her goal was not to become a leader, nor was it to surpass Amon, but it was simply to protect everything that her ancestors had left behind.

"Protect everything until the Golden Bell rings again!"

After a second, without hesitation, Wiper raised her hand above Amon's! With a smile, with tears still falling on his chest.

"Yes, sister .... Shandoria strong together!"

He took all his words to heart. He will work hard, to one day surpass him. But the important thing is to fulfill the wishes of his ancestors.
