GOODBYE

GOODBYE
63. good-bye teacher

For a moment, Kyai Khalil brought his student “turun mount”. Talk lightly first, giving an opportunity for Akas to calm down, after being stung by the final verse of the letter at-Tiin earlier. Laughing, he heard the story of his student who was taken by Kang Iyung while heading to Kyai Zarkasih. “Just sort of Iyung, how about if people get wretched?” he said in the middle of laughter.

“Later, it's being held accountable as well don't, Kyai?"

“Hehehe...,” they laughed again, slowly.

After feeling enough, Kyai Khalil also brought his students back “naik-up to the top of mount”. Back to the level of the heavyweight conversation.

“My son, it seems to have arrived the time for me to let you go. Sharia, my duty as your spiritual guide has been fulfilled. You already have the standard of faith haqqul yaqin to Him. It will not be swayed, either by seduction or by threat. Each spiritual guide is only assigned to take humans to the first gate of makrifat. Next, He will lead directly to Him."

Akas choked, “What do you mean, Kyai?"

“His syariah, my task is done. Continue, your journey with His guidance. He is the Almighty, He is the All-Minister. Later you will understand for yourself how. Don't question now. Really, this cannot be explained, even by gestures. Aqrabu ilaihi min hablil wariid that, have you not really felt?”

Akas nodded steadily. That is how truth is.

“Nah, that's Him..”.

Walaqad khalaqnal insana wa na'lamu maa yuwaswisu bihi nafsuh, wa nahnu aqrahu ilaihi min hablil wariid. Verily We have created man, and knoweth what his heart whispers, and We are nearer to him than his neck. Pardon: 16).

Silent moment....

“Hadits Prophet, awwalu here makrifarullah, the beginning of religion is to know Allah. Actually, that is. Even within the limits of reason can be understood. Without knowing Him, then worship what? However, this is in the real level. Do not force this understanding on those who do not need it. For, the law is unjust. But, don't also shut down from those who really need it. Zhalim too. Let Allah determine which of His servants is wise and who is righteous. Who is the master of worship, who is the master of worship. These two are His servants, at their respective levels.”

Akas.

“Makrifatullah itself is multi-layered, multi-level. But, don't imagine the kind of layers that are lined up, huh? For example, if you see a point of light from here, it is true if it is said that you have understood that point of light from your current position. Then suppose you are walking closer to that point of light. At every new level of closeness, there is another level of understanding, right? Which is closer than before..”.

Akas nodded back.

Kyai Khalil smiled, “That's how it looks. Remember, this is just a picture. To some degree, your distance from the point of light was so close. Then..., suddenly you are gone, drowned with the sea.” he looked at the shahdu of his disciple. “Can this be understood?”

Akas sighed, “Can, Kyai. Obviously once.”

“Bismillaahi waamin bismillaah. La ilaha illallah..,” sigh Ama Khalil. “Do you memorize letter at-Taubah verse twenty?”

“What was his first, Kyai?”

Kyai Khalil chanted the first part of the verse, and Akas connected it. Alhamdulillah, Allah has made it easier for him to memorize the holy verses of the Qur'an, following its translation, though not to the extent of hafizh.

Alladziina aamanuu wa haajaruu wa jaahaduu fii sabiilillaahi bi-amwaalihim wa anfusihim a'zhamu darajatan 'indallaahi, wa ulaaika humul faa-izuun. Those who believe and emigrate and wage jihad in the way of Allah with their possessions and themselves are higher than Allah, and these are the ones who are victorious (QS. at-talubah: 20).

“Nah, in this verse Allah has explained the relationship between faith, hijrah, and jihad. Before hijrah and jihad, there must be faith first. If the faith has been formed, naturally a person will move or migrate. Only, many who interpret this hijrah outwardly only. Moving from one place to another, like moving house,” said Kyai Khalil.

Akas listened, all his thoughts flew to al-Hikam, the book of Sheikh Ibn Atha'illah Ra. There, there is a section that discusses the hijrah.

Kyai Khalil smiled, “What glass Shaykh Atha'illah about this?”

I was shocked for a moment, then grimaced. Been close to “kesaktian” his teacher. It has often happened to guess exactly like this before.

"What did he say?" Kyai Khalil asked again.

“Eem, do not migrate from one situation to another. Because, the behavior is like a milling donkey," replied Akas, continued grinning.

“Hehe.... How should it be?”

“Switch from a state to a non-state.”

“Well, it's the original new. You understand what he meant by a phrase that wasn't the situation?"

Akas nodded.

“What?”

“What else? Is there anything else?”

“Hijrah always with his jaahaduu fii sabiilillaah. There is no meaning of hijrah without jihad in the way of Allah. And there is no meaning of jihad except with his fii sabiilillaah. If without fii sabiilillaah, the name is not jihad. It was just worldly riots. War for property, throne, or woman. No more,” continued the teacher.

Akas.

“So, be aware that aamanuu, haajaruu, and jaahaduu fii sabilillaah, are a unitary condition. Faith, hijrah, and jihad are inseparable. Furthermore, there will be sacrifices with possessions or even self-improvement. It's not easy, is it? Who said moving was easy?” Kyai Khalil smiled.

Akas grimaced scratching his head.

“But, don't worry. For God will bountifully give to His warriors. Those who believe, emigrate, and wage jihad in His way are guaranteed by Him. Even if the property is exhausted, or let's be martyred. This, it's not just anything. Not a heartfelt story. Man cannot be sincere without being given his rights. Belief is God's right, not a creature's right. Do not say sincerely, do not say patiently, and do not say faith, without understanding. The batil! Thus presented by Sulthan Auliya Sheikh Muhyiddin Abdul Qadir Jailani radhiallahu anhum,” Kyai Khalil said.

Akas sighed, lowered his head, then nodded.

“Who knows...,” Kyai Khalil said. “Who knows your line looks like me...”

I raised my face, looked at my teacher.

“Two parents like this, I am the crown prince, hehehe.

The student smiled as well....

Plural is known by some of his students, that Kyai Khalil is a prince. Not just any prince because he is the crown prince, the heir to the king of a kingdom that is now entering the territory of West Kalimantan. When he was young, he stripped the rights of his throne in the name of “hijrah”. Crossing land, across the sea. Until moored in Magelang, which is somehow next to his kingdom. Never held, but his senior students know that he holds the title “Gusti”, which is the same as “Raden” if in the kingdom of Java. There is an original certificate of his genealogy, made by the ruler of the kingdom at that time. Reportedly, for decades sought the existence of the crown prince “hilang”, before finally sophisticated in Magelang. Not intentionally, either. You see, Kyai Khalil does not want to contact there, just cut it. I know the story of Kyai Sanusi. All the in-laws showed me the copy of the genealogical letter....

Mosques start “bangun” by dawn. Kyai Khalil stared at the Shahdu of his disciple. “Mari, you have to pay talqin,” he said.

“What is it, Kyai?”

“Captains. With that, I release you in His name. Like, graduation oath,” Kyai Khalil smiled.

Akas mangut-mangut understand.

Baiat talqin is also used. Three roars of thunder accompanied this baiat. At the beginning, in the middle, and at the end. Coincidence or not, that is. After that, Kyai Khalil handed over the package that was next to him from the beginning.

“This is for you. Open,”.

I accept and open it. It turned out to be a piece of clothing and a sheath. Definitely not new because it looks a bit shabby but clean. Looks like old tools.

“Then, those clothes and sarongs accompanied my spiritual journey. He's obviously older than your age. Accept it as a diploma sign. All this...” Kyai Khalil handed me a small brown book. “This is a baiat ordinance manual. Later if there are people who need the truth come to you, good. Do not be afraid and do not doubt. If anyone doubts you, take an oath under the Qur'an. What you hold is the truth. His nash was clear to the Prophet Muhammad salallaahu alaihi wa salam, through Sheikh Muhyiddin Abdul Qadir Jailani radialhu anhum. Not science without basis."

Akas sighed, then nodded in reverence.

“Do not intentionally search. What is right will come by itself. You don't have to tell people about this, put up an announcement, or anything like that. No, zhalim it. This is the level of reality, beyond sharia. This part of your science crosses the line of worship. Your part is the path of perfection, the path to al-insan al-kamil. Not the language of reward, sin, heaven, and hell. So, it's not for everyone. Only for those who are given His rights. Understand?”

“Iya, Kyai.”

“Do not leave the sharia. To go beyond the limits of Sharia does not mean to leave it. Do shariah with its truth. Islam is whole, covering the birth and the inner. Udkhuluu fis silmi. Not half-and-half. True unbelief, that is. It's not just about zhahir's law and tara's ways."

Akas nodded back.

Ya ayyuhal ladziina aamanuud-khuluu fis silmi kaaffah wa laa tattabi'u khuthuwaiatisy syaithaan innahuu lakum 'adawwwum mubin. O you who believe, enter into Islam in its entirety, and do not take the steps of Satan, the devil is a real enemy to you (QS. al-Baqarah: 208).

“Oo yes, another one, almost forgetfulness..,” Kyai Khalil smiled. “That is Sirr as-Sirr, the Secret of Secrets. A dignity of dhikr is very secret. Only God and His true sense of self are involved there. His servant who was given this gift by Him. The true sense of self is the spirit, the true essence of human self. In fact, Jibril alaihi salam is not entitled to penetrate this veil.”

Akas continued to nod....

Narrated, when the Prophet Muhammad with the Angel Jibril As. mi'raj, up to a stage or limit, Gabriel was not allowed to rise above the seventh heaven. He said, “To this limit I will accompany you, O Muhammad. If it moves another step, I'll be forfeited.” Then the Prophet continued his journey alone.

Thus. Until then Akas pleaded, after they had performed the congregational dawn prayer in the room. As he stepped foot from the house of Kyai Khalil, a clump of thunder rumbled shahdu. Then, another one echoed when he arrived home. Wa yusabbihuur ra'du bi hamdih is so real, accompanying this sacred drone....

***

Three months later, Kyai Khalil returned to Rahmatullah. Not sick continuously, he recovered after that night, up to three days before his death. At the end of the day, Kyai Khalil returned ill. Accompanied solemnly chanting his asthma, “Allah, Allah, Allah...,” he also died quietly Smile seen on the line of his lips. Goodbye to Shaykhuna....
