The Train to The Dungeon

The Train to The Dungeon
Chapter 7: Cornfield Dungeon

The train I took out of the tunnel. My eyes were round looking at the endless corn fields slapping around the train tracks. The green leafy plant seemed to sway slowly by the gust of wind. It was hard to call this place a dungeon, the scenery was so beautiful and soothing.

The train slowed down and finally stopped at the dungeon station. I got off the Infinity Train, looked back to see the carriage one last time before darting away leaving me alone in the dungeon.

“Wait, the train just left?” I panicked immediately.

Normally, DRT did not leave the Hunter inside the dungeon. The new train will depart after Hunter returns to the train. However, Infinity Train works in a different way. The train left me 30 seconds after my foot was on the ground.

“You don't want me to have to complete the mission in this dungeon huh?” I muttered to myself.

This is how the system works. Even on an uninhabited beach like that, the exit only appeared after I completed the mission. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down. My heart was steady, I set foot onto the small road that formed between the sidelines of the two-meter-high corn plant.

The tring!

[Quest: Lose the Dungeon Boss (0/1)

Reward: ???

Pinalty: Death]

I read the message from the system. My heart beats fast when I read “bos dungeon”. All this time I've only watched Hunter fight the boss, it was never imagined that one day I would fight with the dungeon boss alone.

Inside the expanse of corn plants, the sun feels a little fainter as it is covered by thick green corn foliage. The atmosphere became increasingly tense and mysterious, increasing a sense of anxiety in the heart. I felt like I was entering into a strange and unknown world.

The tring!

Messages from the system again. This time what?

[Quest:

Defeat Gwantail {0/100)]

Defeat the Corn Bandit (0/100)]

What other monster is this?

I want to control the system. Getting one quest alone is quite heavy, but this is even coupled with other missions. Killing a hundred monsters? Killing five tails alone I need half a day more. I began to worry, how long would I spend inside this dungeon if I had to kill such a large number of monsters.

There was a sound of leaves swiping hard enough. I was shocked and immediately turned to the source of the voice. My focus was entirely on the two stalks of corn that were swaying violently.

I was surprised by the appearance of a rat-shaped monster. The mouse jumped up to my face. Reflexes, my body dodges. I was quite surprised to feel my body move faster and lighter than usual.

“So this effect is due to DEX attribute enhancement,” murmured me with a smile. My fear is a little less.

I activated the Clairvoyance skill, appearing the name and HP bar line above the monster's head. His name is Gnawtail, the letter written in white, he has one HP bar line. Gnawtail has a body length of half a meter, its height is about my knee. Its feathers were pale purple and stood sharp. His ears are pointed, his eyes are red and his muzzle is curling. All four legs have long, sharp nails.

Gnawtail squeaked and jumped again at me. Adrenaline feels flowing all over the body, unlike before, this time I will not retreat. I put all my energy into the punch in the hand. The punch hit Gnawtail's face, so hard that the monster was thrown and hit several corn stalks. Gnawtail's HP was left a little, without waiting, I walked up to him and stomped the monster to death.

My breath was panting, setting a turbulent euphoria in the chest. This feels fun.

There was a squeak and from the other direction, this time two Gnawtails appeared. Both of them ran and attacked me at the same time. I punched one of the Gnawtails, but the other rat monster managed to bite my thigh.

“Argh! Shit... hurts also turns out!” I punched the monster's head twice and he died instantly. While the other Gnawtail I kick once and die immediately.

The tring!

[You get passive Auto-Collect skill]

“Enable Auto-Collect skill,” I said on the system. If I don't read it wrong in the description adi, this skill is useful for collecting monster materials.

The tring!

[You obtained Gnawtail’s Hair x3

You get Gnawtail’s Claw x3

You get Gnawtail’s Meat 2x]

“Material of monsters collected automatically?” I blinked in disbelief. When I swiped in Inventory, it turned out that all the material was automatically stored in there.

“Good, this way I can focus on killing monsters.”

Just saying so, three other Gnawtails emerged from behind the expanse of corn plants. I smiled happily, I watched every attack from that rat monster. My body jumped to the right and left, the repulsion of my legs felt light and I was able to land without difficulty.

My reflexes and instincts also became sharper as if I could sense where the attack was coming from without even having to look at it. My body naturally followed those instincts and moved dodging.

The swing of my punches also became faster, the hits and punches I gave felt stronger. Those rat monsters I can sort out in an instant.

The sky turned into twilight. Not noticeably, I have already completed the first mission of killing a hundred Gnawtails. I stepped among the pile of Gnawtail bodies I had defeated. I decided to return to where the dungeon station was located.

Once there, I was surprised to not find the station. The building of the lost dungeon station was replaced with an expanse of empty green land. I looked up at the sky that had turned dark. Worry, should I continue the mission or take a break for tonight.

“At least propping up the stomach first.”

I decided to rest for a while. After sitting on the ground I took out two packs of bread and one bottle of mineral water from Invetory. While chewing bread, I checked my status profile.

I'm gaping. It turned out that killing monsters was much faster and effective to level up. Compared to the Daily Quest, it would take up to a week just to raise two levels. While inside the dungeon I was able to rise three levels in just a few hours. It feels so much more interesting, I'm getting excited about killing monsters.

I decided to continue fighting. Thanks to the increased attributes, I did not feel too exhausted. With this kind of overflowing energy and spirit, I was sure that I could slaughter monsters for a full night.

[Quest:

Beat Gwantail {100/100)]

Defeat the Corn Bandit (0/100)]

I went back into the corn field. Thanks to Clairvoyance's eye skills, I have no vision problems at night, all brightly lit as it is during the day.

Sounded rustling leaves. This time, I saw cornbumps that swayed because there was a creature that jumped. Accompanied by the shrill shriek, my eyes caught a monster like a long-tailed monkey jumping from the top of one of the humps. The monkey intends to attack me with its claw.

I nimbly dodged his attack, then one of his hands hit him until he fell to the ground. The monster died instantly. The increase in Strength on the basic attribute made my strength now exceed their HP bar line.

On top of the monster's head body lay the name of the Corn Bandit, the writing changed color to green.

“Does the color change to green mean my level has exceeded it?”

“Kiik! Kiik!”

I looked up, appearing three other gray-haired monkeys. They attacked me aggressively, two of them biting my elbow and shoulder. I directly pulled the tail of one of them, slammed into the ground and stepped on it.

Then two other tails I punched until slammed and hit the corn stalks. I stopped for a while to catch my breath. My HP bar line was reduced by almost half. Their attacks were good too.

“Heal,” says. Green light came out from every part of my body that was injured. The scratches and holes in my body disappeared instantly, recovering as before. Likewise with my HP bar line that is recharged.

The tring!

[You obtained Corn Bandit’s meat x3

You get Corn Bandit’s blood x4]

I don't know what the meat and blood of this monkey is. In the information description only write it as raw material. It's okay, I can sell to the Hunter Association later.

“Then this can be long,” I said while opening the Inventory box. I took out an Ordinary Machete-shaped weapon.

Right after that some Corn Bandits appeared. I smiled back, waiting for them to come.

“You are the monkey!” I cried out to take a slash to their bodies.

The bodies of the monkeys were cut and split. However, it did not dampen the presence of other Corn Bandits. They keep coming at me.

“Enable Skill Shadow Move!”

My body was shrouded in darkness, my footsteps became faster, my movements were so smooth that I could dodge attacks with the slightest gap, and my hands moved so fast that I could not see them with my own eyes. As soon as it finished moving, the ten heads of the Coin Bandits broke off and fell to the ground.

A terrifying skill. I moved so fast that even my own consciousness could not keep up with it. Like a shadow, I slipped in the shadow of the Coin Bandit and then appeared with a slash on their neck or body, instantly killing the monkey-shaped monster.

Collecting a hundred tails so it feels not difficult.

The tring!

[Quest:

Beat Gwantai {100/100)]

Defeat the Corn Bandit (100/100)]

[You Get Achievement “More Effective Than Pesticide].

[You get Reward “Whisperblade”]

My eyes twinkled at the display of the new weapon on the system screen. A Whisperblade is a class D weapon in the shape of a pair of small sickles. I want to wear it right away, but the cleaver in my hand is still good.

“I can not redundant, this weapon I will save for later,” I said while closing the Inventory screen, then switch to profile status.

Significant increase in one day. I closed the system screen with a satisfied expression. The night is still long, but I want to continue my search into the cornfield to look for the whereabouts of the Dungeon Boss.
