The Rose of De Haas

The Rose of De Haas
Chapter 48: The Escape

The sound of the fishing boat engine boarded by Cecilion and Mawar still roars, passing through the waters of the Batanghari river with moderate speed makes the feeling of the young couple remains restless even though they have left Palembang city center.

"Where can we hide, my husband?" ask the rose with a strained face.

"We'll find the nearest village first, my wife. We've been out on the water for too long" Cecilion replied as he continued to look forward, trying to search the docks around them.

The sky had begun to darken, along with the thunderous roar that broke the silence between Van der Linen's married couple.

Strong winds also began to hit, blocking the escape of a couple from the city center which became a conflict area.

The increasingly violent rumbling made Cecilion increasingly agitated because they did not find a safe place to lean the fishing boat they were riding at this time.

"My husband, look! There seems to be a pier!" said Rose full of hope while pointing towards a small pier, a distance still quite far from their position.

"You're right, honey. Wait a moment, I'll rest the boat immediately" Cecilion chimed with a smile, trying to cheer up the wife a little.

The rose was already feeling very nauseous and dizzy, her pregnancy made the young woman slightly lose her strong endurance since childhood.

Fishing boats certainly can not increase speed, making Cecilion can only steer the wheel towards the small pier patiently even though the rain has started to fall and wet his body.

"Lord... I beg you to give us a chance to live" muttered Cecilion whose voice had been muffled by the torrent of rain falling.

The tears that flowed from Cecilion's pair of charming eyes were obscured by the rainwater, too, however, he must do everything in his power to save the life of his wife and child, who are still in the womb of his wife.

Gradually, the fishing boat boarded by a couple Van der Linen can pull over at a small pier.

The Cecilion rush down, pushing the fishing boat so that it could immediately lean on the dock properly.

"Let's my wife, we must immediately find shelter so that you do not get sick" said Cecilion whose voice had begun to tremble with the cold.

Roses nodded, received a helping hand from the husband and then slowly got down from the fishing boat they had been riding.

The cold pressure of air temperature and river water that hit the body of the Rose made the young mother-to-be creepy but still walked slowly following the steps of Cecilion the husband.

Not far from the pier, Cecilion and Rose found some simple houses lined up with a distance rather far, indicating that there is life around here.

The two walked cautiously, trying to approach the house closest to them.

"It looks like there are residents who still live around here," said Cecilion after his feet stepped on the yard of a simple wooden-walled house.

However, even though Cecilion said so Rose's heart said otherwise.

The village looked so deserted, it was not like a village even no one seemed to come out of the simple wooden houses.

Cecilion's palm pushed the wooden door from the humble house, but how surprised he was to find the house they came to the door unlocked.

...****************...

"What can we eat now? Around here there is nothing to cook," said the Rose that morning.

A night of heavy rain accompanied by lightning flushed this place, making Cecilion and Roses forced to spend the night there even with a feeling of anxiety.

"We also can't make fire either so it looks like we have to find something to eat outside," sahut Cecilion decided to re-dress his clothes which they had used as a pillow to sleep.

Roses feel sore not playing, considering they only slept on a bale made of bamboo really inversely proportional to the comfort of the bed they usually use at home.

But Roses can not complain, it can still survive until this moment alone is a tremendous blessing for him.

"I have no regrets at all about being your wife, Cecilion Van der Linen," softly uttered the phrase out of the lips of the Rose, causing Cecilion to turn his body around to face his wife.

The handsome man did not say anything, he just grabbed the body of the Rose into his warm embrace while saying an implied promise to try to give peace to the idol.

"I'm sorry that I haven't been able to do so many things to you, Rose," said Cecilion softly, a voice that sounded so subtle as to greet the Rose's sense of hearing.

The two hands of the Rose tighten the warm embrace, trying to strengthen each other with the husband trying to pass all these obstacles together.

"You've given me all the best, Cecilion. I beg you not to say such a thing" said the gentle air, rubbing the husband's firm jaw while looking at the beauty of God's creation full of love.

However, before they could truly breathe a sigh of relief suddenly the sound of a firearm explosion sounded so jarring that it tore apart the silence that had accompanied them since.

"Hurry to hide, my wife! I'll find out what's there" said Cecilion, who was opposed this time by the Roses.

"Don't joke! I won't let you out alone!" press the rose with his anxious face.

"Nothing will happen, my wife. I promise," Cecilion replied trying to convince his wife to let Cecilion see the situation outside.

"This time you must listen to me, my husband! It could be that when you get out of here the other Nippon soldiers will be able to catch me easily!" deny the Rose whose eyes are now wet with tears.

Indeed, she did not want to lose her husband, the soulmate who had been the only place to complain and take refuge from the cruel world.

In any case, for the Rose of the man before him was his world, the most comfortable place for the Rose that no one could ever replace.

"I beg you, Cecilion Van der Linen... Just this once, listen to my words, I just want the two of us to be safe together" said the Rose, whose face was now soaked with traces of tears.

Cecilion was stunned.

The man was silent for a moment, letting his wife cry in his arms.

Cecilion whispered, "believe me, baby, I will protect you no matter how I die, but you must live and give birth to our child safely."
