The Rose of De Haas

The Rose of De Haas
Chapter 4: The Mercy of the Master

"What, Master?!"

Sarinah was clearly shocked to hear the remark from the Master that she would buy a lot of clothes for him.

"Why do you like to make me repeat my words, Sarinah? I said I'd buy you a lot of pink clothes" Mr. De Haas repeated as he drove his car to a women's clothing store where Dutch women used to buy clothes.

Although Sarinah was again amazed by the behavior of Mr. De Haas, she could only smile while thanking him.

Sarinah really does not know what the heart of the Master and what the purpose of the man is but she chose not to bother.

After all, his life and death are now in the hands of Mr. De Haas who has bought it at a high price in exchange for his parents' debt.

The soft smile on Sarinah's face made Mr. De Haas amazed. Only this time Mr. De Haas was made intoxicated like this by a woman moreover he was a native.

Arriving at the intended clothing store, Mr. De Haas helped Sarinah get out of the car carefully.

Today's weather looks so bright, making Mr. De Haas' smile even brighter.

Sarinah's long black hair looked so sparkling, attracting the attention of the people who passed in front of the clothing store.

"Good morning, Mr. De Haas. Can we help you?" lady Diana asked, the owner of the clothing store after realizing the presence of a potential guest in her shop.

"Good morning. Please show me all the pink clothes you have, ma'am," Mr. De Haas said.

"Alright, please follow me sir," said the reddish-brown madam leading the way into her shop.

Mr. De Haas awkwardly held Sarinah's hand, making some of the shop employees who were there started whispering to each other the existence of the beautiful young Nyai.

"Among all the dresses that this shop makes, which one is the only one?" asked Mr. De Haas after seeing some pink dresses in the collection of Mrs Diana's store.

Lady Diana smiled faintly, picking up a luxurious long dress that was very beautiful made Sarinah instantly like it in one glance.

"This is an exclusive series that we only made one, sir. Because there is only one, the price is a little different than the other collections," explained Lady Diana.

"Do you like it?" asked Mr. De Haas to Sarinah.

"Is that not too much for me, sir?" Sarinah asked back, hesitating to accept the Lord's generosity even though she was very fond of the dress.

Although in her heart, Lady Diana was not willing if the exclusive luxury dress that her shop made with great difficulty would be worn by a native like Sarinah, but she was more concerned about the continuity of her business.

If a single word of reproach came out of her lips, this pioneering business that Diana had been in for years could be destroyed in the blink of an eye because of that much more powerful Mr. De Haas.

Mr. De Haas smiled faintly. "absolutely not, if you like it I'll buy it for you."

Getting such an answer, Sarinah then nodded while ignoring the subtle sounding gossip from the employees of this store.

"If you still continue to gossip the Nyai I bought with your salary for twenty years working here, I will cut off your tongues," threatening Mr. De Haas with a low voice that was very cold, causing an aura of intimidation so creepy.

"Wrap all the clothes you put up in this store, quick! Otherwise I will directly destroy this shop!" mr. De Haas' orders made everyone stingy.

"Excuse their presumptuous behavior, Mr. De Haas," replied Lady Diana as she slightly lowered her head.

"Educate your employees not to carelessly gossip others as blatantly as that" replied Mr. De Haas ketus while giving a bag of money to Lady Diana.

After getting all the dresses from Lady Diana's clothing store, Mr. De Haas then pulled Sarinah's hand to go to another store.

"Master... But all these clothes are so excessive for me who is a native," sarinah's great-grandson saw how many dresses the Master had bought just because of the employees of Lady Diana who dared to gossip herself blatantly.

"You just take it and wear it, don't protest too much. You should know that they should not treat you as such, "Mister De Haas said with his still sour face, making Sarinah decide not to continue the conversation.

...****************...

"Please enjoy your lunch, Madam," said one of the Chinese waiters after serving Chinese food to Sarinah.

The food presented on Sarinah's dining table is very much, to the point of making Sarinah sure that she could spend it all alone.

Mr. De Haas was attending a meeting between Dutch businessmen at one of the European restaurants across the street, that's why Sarinah is now in a Chinese restaurant even though her whole life she knows nothing about Chinese food.

Sarinah looked at the various foods presented in confusion, starting to think which foods she should eat first because all the food in front of her looked delicious.

After a long time of weighing, finally Sarinah's tiny hand moved to pick up a spoon and fork and began to devour noodle soup which he did not know at all what the name of the dish.

"These foods are all very delicious...then what did Mom and Dad eat in the village huh? I miss them" Sarinah muttered with a sad look, remembering her parents in her hometown.

"What are you thinking about to the point of eating a bowl of noodles for so long?"

Hearing that voice, Sarinah turned her back and found that Mr. De Haas was already standing to the left of her body.

As always, Mr. De Haas looks charming in a white toetoep djas suit, trousers attached to his impressive height and attractive.

Unlike the married Dutch masters who seem fond of wearing hats, Mr. De Haas almost never wears a hat.

"Oh, is Mister back?" Sarinah asked clumsily, welcoming the Master with a stiff smile forced like a straw doll forced to smile.

"It was just a boring meeting, why did I linger? Because the topic is boring my appetite so lost, but it seems like it would be much better to eat together with you," said Mr. De Haas while starting to eat, choosing the food closest to his reach.

"Then you eat a lot. I will only eat one bowl of this noodle," replied Sarinah mannered as usual.

Mr. De Haas pursed his lips, glaring his head at Sarinah the Nyai.

"Eat only as much as your stomach can and don't you dare say that again. You understand, Sarinah?"

Sarinah nodded. "thank you very much for your generosity, Sir.but may I ask one other thing of Master?"

Mr. De Haas' smooth forehead then contorted. "what do you want, Sarinah?"
