The Rose of De Haas

The Rose of De Haas
Chapter 19: Vader en Dochter Strijden

"Cecilion again? My God, did I really like that kid to this extent? Huh..."

Roses massage the temples, trying to expel the dizziness that hit his head. Lately he always thought of Cecilion, to make himself often found daydreaming by friends and both parents.

The togetherness he knitted with Cecilion also felt more and more frequent, making the Rose increasingly difficult to hide what was in his little heart.

"Is this what we call love?" murmured Rose while looking at the handsome portrait of Cecilion from his work just now.

In fact, which girl would not be infatuated with Cecilion van der Linen, a handsome and dashing young man like a male lion.

A pair of thick, almost-linked eyebrows that framed both eyes, further adding to the beauty of Cecilion's sharp eyes. The nose is pointed, similar to the beak of a sharp and charming eagle and its full lips reddish make the heart of the Rose beat unruffled every time he saw it.

Cecilion van der Linen was indeed very perfect, it felt impossible if there was no girl who put her heart to him. Roses sure, if he was reckless to express his feelings to Cecilion it could not bear sweet fruit considering the many girls who tried to attract the attention of the young man.

"Rose, what are you doing, baby?" call Madame De Haas the Mama from the doorway of the Rose.

With a hasty gesture, Rose immediately closed the drawing book. "i just finished drawing, Mama."

"Yes, then let's eat. Mama just cooked your favorite fried rice" said Mrs De Haas with a warm and gentle smile typical of a mother.

Rose nodded obediently, inching closer to the mother who was lately busy taking care of their family's new business.

The mother and daughter walked together to the dining table hand in hand, chatting with each other in small laughter made Mr. De Haas who saw her from a distance feel happy.

Mr. De Haas feels he has managed to build a small family that is warm and happy amid the many negative perceptions about the different caste marriage he had with Sarinah, his wife.

The man only wanted to give as much happiness to his wife and children as he could, regardless of how badly other Dutch people judged him for daring to marry a native woman.

"Hurry here and eat before all these delicacies get cold" said Mr. De Haas, a stern assertion to his son and wife who had just sat themselves on a chair.

"Let's say Papa's starving," led Roses while grabbing his cutlery.

Madam De Haas laughed amusedly. "yes, your father must have starved so it's cynical like that."

As was their custom, Mr. De Haas led the prayer before they began to eat.

Everyone lowered their heads until Mr. De Haas finished his prayer.

The little family then began to eat solemnly, enjoying the taste of every meal served on the dining table with a grateful happy face.

"Our sugar factory is growing rapidly, do we have to open new branches again?" mr. De Haas said opening the topic.

"Don't we already have three factories?" chirping the Rose after sipping a drink.

Unlike other business children who tend to be spoiled and stupid with their parents' business, Roses are very wise and good at providing input for businesses that are engaged by both parents.

In fact, Rose also designed all forms of sugar factory building owned by their families that make the De Haas family owned factory has its own characteristics.

"If you want to build a new factory in Batavia, don't we also have to get permission from the governor?" said Madam De Haas.

Right. All large-scale business activities must now be carried out with the permission of the ruling governor with a complex set of regulations.

Mr. De Haas sighed. "that's the problem. The governor who is currently in power is my enemy since we still live in the Netherlands how could he possibly give me permission to open a new factory."

Governor Van Der Linen, the father of Cecilion was recently occupied as governor in Batavia made a lot of changes occurred from various fields.

Not infrequently people complain, ranging from the natives to wealthy businessmen such as Mr. De Haas often made dizzy by new regulations made by Governor Van Der Linen.

"Why didn't Papa try to improve his relationship with Meneer Van Der Linen? Who knows it will also benefit both parties" said Rose trying to provide the best solution. After all, it was not only because Rose loved the governor's son but also for the good of them all.

"Papa wouldn't do that stupid thing, come to him first? That's tantamount to smearing self-esteem" replied Mr. De Haas ketus.

"Then why did Papa ask for our opinion if he did not want to listen to the input?" sahut Roses, put the finished spoon and fork he used on the dining table.

Highlight the girl's eyes sharpened, inexhaustible with the way her Papa's mind always momorsatkan self-esteem.

"You won't understand until you grow up, Rose, " said Mr. De Haas with great emphasis.

"Adult? I've been seventeen! Why can't I say what I think would be the best middle ground for all of you?" rose's voice rose, making Madam De Haas quickly rub softly on her child's shoulder trying to ask her to calm down.

"Oh, since when did you dare to fight Papa like this, Rose De Haas!"

Roses rose from his seat. "that makes people lazy to deal with Papa other than business, Papa is stubborn and does not want to listen to the input of others!"

The two legs of Rose stepped away, leaving her parents who did not expect that the Rose would say such a thing.

"Don't expect you to be able to get out of the house from tomorrow, De Haas Rose!" shouted Mr. De Haas who had ignited his emotions.

The rose entered his room, not caring for the cry of the Papa from the dining table. Roses have always tried to be the child their Papa wants them to be, no matter how hard Papa's ego.

But now he has felt unable to with the stubborn attitude of Mr. De Haas who is increasingly becoming it.

The girl grabbed her pillow, began to lie down with her tears soaking down both of her cheeks.

"What should I do, Cecilion?"
