The Rose of De Haas

The Rose of De Haas
Chapter 21: The Second Family Fire Splash

Cecilion and Kees exchanged confused looks later.

What the hell is going on here?

However, the two young men decided not to ask the two Jongos further.

They prefer to quickly meet the Rose before Mr and Mrs De Haas return home.

"Well my friend and I will be back before an hour" Kees said.

The two Jongos nodded, then opened the door for Kees and Cecilion to enter the luxurious residence of the De Haas family.

"What happened, Kees?" whispered Cecilion in Dutch while stepping following the steps of Kees into the house.

As Kees said, the senior Babu and Jongos who work in the house are many who are on holiday. Those who still work today are the young Babu and Jongos who still seem to have not worked in that magnificent house for too long.

"I don't know either, Lio. It seems like the thing that happened to this Rose is quite serious," Kees replied in Dutch as well.

Of course, they knew that Babu who was coming to them did not understand Dutch at all.

"Young master, are you Miss Rose's friends?" babu asked softly, it seemed like he was also fascinated by the good looks of the two young men.

"Yes. Can you take us to meet the Roses?" pinta Kees's.

"God, you're very polite even if you only talk to a Babu. Sure, let's follow me."

Kees has actually memorized all the rooms in this house considering he has often spent time in this house since childhood with Rose and Greg.

However, he still appreciated the initiative of the white-bred young Babu to deliver them to the Rose room.

"Miss Rose, Miss Rose! Please open the door of your room, there is a friend of yours who came to visit, "call Babu loudly while knocking on the door of the Rose room which is pink.

"Yes! You come back soon, we have to study together," said Rose half-screaming from inside her room.

"Good, Miss. I'll prepare a snack."

The Babu then sauntered away, leaving behind Cecilion and Kees who were still standing in front of the door of the Rose room waiting for the owner to come out of the room. A not-so-disturbing rattling sound then sounded along with the opening of the Rose room door slowly.

"Gosh, what are you doing here?!" asked Rose in shock to see the whereabouts of Kees and Cecilion in front of her bedroom door.

Although being surprised, Cecilion can still capture the beauty of the Rose De Haas that is so special. The girl was wearing a pink knee-length casual dress, leaving her long blonde hair loose.

"We are worried because today you are absent without explanation" Kees replied quickly, awakening Cecilion who was stunned by the beauty of the Rose.

"Yes. What's going on?" ask Cecilion.

"Then let's talk quickly in the living room," the Rose asked as she led the way, her two beautiful blue obsidians looked so wary of Jongos or Babu near them.

Kees and Cecilion nodded obediently, following the steps of the Miss of the house towards the living room she was referring to. This house is too big to be occupied by a husband and wife and a daughter. So vast, some Babu who just started working here until he got lost in the house.

Upon arrival in the living room, Roses told his two friends to sit down. The girl thought that she should quickly explain her matter before her parents returned home.

"So, what makes you so wary?" asked Kees, lowering his voice.

"I and Papa had a different opinion because of something so Papa got angry and didn't let me out of the house" replied the Rose with a bowed face.

"Is this something to do with my Papa?"

The question from Cecilion made Kees and Rose compactly look towards the black-haired handsome young man.

"Why did you just come home, Cecilion van der Linen?" mrs Van Der Linen asked upon arrival her only son was in the threshold of the main door of their house.

"There's a school assignment I have to do with Kees," Cecilion replied quickly, not heeding the mother's full inquiring gaze.

Somehow both of his parents who had very similar traits could get married, Cecilion thought. Not infrequently, the young man felt very depressed to have Papa and Mama whose attitude was very rigid and firm.

It was unthinkable for Cecilion to tell his daily life long ago to his parents.

Cecilion took a careless step towards her room, reluctant to respond to further questions from her mother. He was made dizzy, why the conflict of the Papa since he was young with Mr De Haas never ended? This would be very dangerous for his relationship with the Rose.

After changing clothes, Cecilion came back out of his room to take part in their family dinner which was about to start soon. Babu seems to be busy arranging food on the dining table made of white jade.

"Put the meat in the middle" said Mrs Van Der Linen firmly, pointing her index finger at the center of the dinner table giving direction to Babu who was carrying a large plate of meat.

Satisfied, Mrs Van Der Linen then told Cecilion to sit down to start their dinner. Cecilion just kept silent, waiting for the arrival of the Papa who had just returned from his office.

Overtime work is often done by Mr. Van Der Linen since he served as the governor of Batavia, making Cecilion and the Mama no longer feel surprised because the head of their family often came home late.

"Let's start the dinner" said Mr. Van Der Linen, who had just arrived at the dinner table.

Cecilion nodded, grabbing his tableware in the silence that enveloped them that night. Household relations between Mr and Mrs Van Der Linen deteriorated, along with the attitude of the two of them who increasingly looked so stiff and cold to each other.

Cecilion's hands skillfully cut the slices of meat on his plate, enjoying his dinner with a sense of uncertainty amid the unnatural silence between his parents.

"Papa?" call Cecilion who has already itched his lips to ask.

"What's wrong?"

"What happened between Papa and Mr De Haas?"

The question from Cecilion suddenly caused Mr. Van Der Linen to stop eating.

He put the fork and knife he held on the left and right side of the plate with eyes so sharp that he looked at his son.

"Stop it right now if you're in touch with that despicable family, Cecilion van der Linen."

His Papa's words did sound like they didn't convey any emotion, but Cecilion understood very well that it was a stern warning.

"I'm just curious because I feel like your son, Papa. I am ashamed that people continue to compare your arbitrary attitude towards the little people with the generous attitude of Mr. De Haas" said Cecilion with a bitter smile.

Mr. Van Der Linen's facial water grew grim, making Cecilion immediately sip his drinking water as a cover for his dinner this time.

"I hope Papa is always careful because people can take Papa down at any time. But come to think of it as if connecting with the De Haas Family would be more profitable. Moreover, Mr. De Haas was very loyal to his wife even though the woman was an Inlander," Cecilion added.

"Do you like the daughter of the De Haas family?" ask the head of the family.

Cecilion smiled meaningfully. "my age is not even eighteen years old, Papa, but I know which is more profitable than being considerate of an opera performer."

Hard insinuation.

Cecilion often heard the Dutch, especially the government staff, talking about the forbidden love relationship between his father and one of the opera performers on several occasions.

"Yes, okay, I'm done. Thank you Papa and Mama for the delicious dinner."

The Papa's relationship with Mr. De Haas seems to be much more complicated than he thought making Cecilion's appetite instantly disappear.
