Chapter 20: Worrying

Cecilion looked at the front of the class, but did not listen to the lessons that were being explained by Mr. Teacher.

The young man's mind floated out of place, his face water seemed worried as if he was thinking of something.

Since the first lesson today, Cecilion had not focused on following the lesson at all.

He just kept quiet, staring straight at the blackboard as if he was watching to make Master feel that Cecilion was watching what he was describing.

"Kees, seriously don't know why the Roses are absent today?" cecilion asked in a whispering voice to Kees who was sitting behind him.

Kees shook his head in a doldrums. "if I knew, I would have told you without asking."

Just this time the daughter of the De Haas family did not go to school, making the teachers and some friends of the Rose feel worried especially this feels very awkward considering there is no news at all related to the reason for the absence of the Rose today. Although it was a relief for those who like to muddle Roses, but Cecilion's feelings were worried.

The intuition of the handsome young man was like telling him that the Rose was not doing well and he had to do something immediately.

"It looks like I have to make sure for myself how the Roses are in his house" Cecilion said.

"Are you crazy?! You want to come to the De Haas family home alone?! You're tired of living, huh?!" peekik Kees restrained.

The young man was anxious, he knew very well that the Van Der Linen family and the De Haas family were mortal enemies even since the two Meneers were still both unmarried.

It was still unclear what the cause was, but Kees knew it would be very dangerous if Cecilion came to the De Haas family home alone.

Although Kees did not know what caused the two distinguished family heads to become mortal enemies since they were young, it was obviously not a good thing for Cecilion if he was reckless to go alone to the family residence De Haas's. Wrong in the slightest, there could be a terrible bloodbath especially Meneer Van Der Linen is not afraid to hurt others physically since he came to power as governor in Batavia.

"No way, let's put together a more mature plan after the break, Cecilion. Remember, you must listen to me completely" whispered Kees with firm face water.

After a few hours had passed, the break time had finally arrived. When all of their classmates left the classroom, Kees and Cecilion were still in the classroom about to have a serious discussion like they were devising a war strategy.

Kees opened the box, showing some pieces of Ontbijtkoek to Cecilion to eat them.

Cecilion also opened his lunchbox, carrying a sandwich containing vegetables and cheese.

"So, what plan do you have?" cecilion asked seriously after swallowing the sandwich he had already chewed.

"We'll both come. I'll have Rose's parents or whoever's there talk and then you can sneak into the Rose's window to make sure of her condition" Kees replied, cutting off her Ontbijtkoek.

"What if I get caught by Babu or Jongos in the Rose house?" Cecilion asked again, afraid that their plan would end up in vain.

"It's Friday at the end of the month, many Babu and Jongos who work for the De Haas family take their day off. There are only not five people still working, but for prevention so that this plan does not fail I have prepared plan B," Kees said seriously, he had carefully calculated their plans.

"How do you know such a detail?" asked Cecilion inexhaustibly, making Kees giggle amusedly.

"I used to come to Rose's house and again we were friends since childhood so I knew very well how it was in the house" Kees said.

"That's it, even though he has a cold temper, Meneer De Haas is still a good man" said Kees, who has met the head of the De Haas family very often.

"Oh, what about plan B?" ask Cecilion impatiently.

"We bribe only if the one in the house is only a Jongos or Babu. Don't you have a lot of money?"

The plan devised by Kees could as well, making Cecilion nod in agreement.

They both agreed to go to Rose's house after school.

Capitalizing on their pocket money, Kees and Cecilion began their mission to visit the Rose that afternoon after school. The two young men walked away after telling their respective drivers that they would study together for the next few hours.

The drivers had no other choice but to wait for the two young men to return home in front of the school gate at the young master's command, afraid to face their Master and Madam if they go home without taking their young Master.

"I forgot that the driver picks me up every day" Cecilion lamented.

"Yes, I didn't even take that into account. It's a good thing they didn't dare to go against orders" Kees said, kicking a small pebble at the end of his shoe.

Their steps then stopped in front of a magnificent house with a yard that was so wide and had some lush trees.

The De Haas family home that looks quieter this afternoon, there are only two Jongos people who are sweeping the front yard of the house.

"Let's try to make sure things go," Kees asked as he stepped inside the mansion's courtyard area.

Along with the success gathered by De Haas, they also continue to build the house with more grandeur. Not to forget, they also often hold a banquet or party at every business success they managed to achieve.

"Excuse me, Uncle. I'm Kees and this is my friend Lio. Is the rose in the house? We are friends of Rose," said Kees, not caring that his interlocutor is a native.

Kees greets more kindly because he knows that the two Jongos have just worked at the De Haas family home.

"Miss is at home. But what do you both need, Meneer?"

"We had to do schoolwork together. Can we come in?" ask Cecilion who is now trying hard to be polite to the Jongos like Kees.

Understandably, Cecilion who used to live with people of high social status is quite confused how to deal with Jongos like this well.

The two older men seemed to weigh in for a moment, having a small discussion about what decision they should take for the two young Dutch masters standing before them.

"All right, but only for an hour. Because actually Master doesn't allow anyone to meet Miss Rose let alone people from outside."

Cecilion and Kees exchanged confused looks later.
