"Mom's up? Lucy and I were just helping my mom clean up the vegetables and meat that I bought earlier" Andre said, trying to calm her lover.
"Why are you here, and since when have you been in the kitchen? I never allowed you to do women's work at all." Andre's mother was upset.
"Mom, what's wrong if men help clean vegetables? It's not a family disgrace, is it?" ask Andre wonder.
"You have more important work than doing all of this. Let me and Ratih do this, you can go do your job" Andre's mother said.
"Mom I've been asking for two weeks off, and I'm not going to do anything with my work. Luna and Leon will take care of my work" Andre said.
"Do you dispute me now?" ask Andre's mother in a high tone.
Not yet had time to answer, Lucy had stopped Andre and tried to calm her lover.
"Here you go, if you don't want to work you can sit there watching us clean vegetables and meat is ok." Lucy said.
Andre complies with Lucy and sits on the table bench facing the direction where Lucy is.
"Oh my God, he listened more to this woman than I did to his real mother" Andre's mother said upset.
Hearing the commotion that occurred in the dining room and kitchen, Ratih approached the room and found the three people who were just silent with faces full of pressure. Ratih walked up to Andre's mother and stood beside her.
"Is this the vegetable we bought earlier, ma'am? What will I cook later?" ask Ratih.
"I will make meat rendang, stir-fry kale, and also sambal terasi." said Andre's mother with a smile to Ratih.
"It must be delicious, I really can't wait to taste the mother's cooking" said Ratih.
"Well, so as to finish quickly what if you help me pick this kale?" ask Andre's mother.
Ratih narrowed his eyes slightly while holding the kale given by Andre's mother. He seemed to feel uncomfortable with the vegetables that were now in his hand.
"Ahh Ma'am, can I do something else? I'm not very good at picking vegetables." said Ratih slightly smiling.
"It's hard if you just pick vegetables, you just have to do it like this" Andre's mother said.
"Not so, I'm a little uncomfortable with the sap." said Ratih.
Andre's mother just kept quiet and took back the vegetables that were in front of Ratih. He stared at Lucy who was still glued to him with a half-fearful look. Seeing Andre's mother's gaze fixed on him, Lucy swiftly picked up the vegetable and placed it before him.
"Let me do this, I can pick vegetables" Lucy said.
Lucy goes towards Andre and puts various accessories on him such as rings and bracelets. He tied his hair high and rolled his sleeves up.
"I'm gonna help your mom cook, how can I move around in clothes like this and all this?" ask Lucy.
"Alright, come with me for a second" said Andre pulling Lucy's hand.
Seeing Lucy who was taken away by Andre her mother was surprised by frowning her forehead without saying anything. Andre takes Lucy to his room and picks up some casual t-shirts that he used to wear.
"Wear this if you feel uncomfortable with it" said Andre gave his t-shirt.
"This...?" ask Lucy.
"Already, wear. Otherwise you'll be in the kitchen gossip." said Andre.
Lucy wears the clothes given by Andre, because Andre's body is larger and high t-shirt hers was able to be a shirt and skirt for Lucy who was small.
"Is this not too short?" ask Lucy.
"You wear shorts, don't you? It won't matter." said Andre.
Lucy and Andre came out of the room and walked towards the kitchen. Andre's mother's gaze returned to Lucy who had now changed clothes.
"Where have you been, why so long?" ask Andre's mother.
Lucy rushes to the kitchen table and picks up the vegetables she will pick without answering questions from Andre's mother Lucy immediately does what Andre's mother tells her to do.
"Train, you can help me grind this chili if you're not good at picking vegetables" Andre's mother said.
Ratih frowned while tightly grasping both hands to the chest.
"Why don't we just use a blender? If grinding using hands will feel hot later finish grinding it." said Ratih reasoned.
"We will make a paste sambal, how is it possible to make a paste using a blender" said Andre's mother.
Ratih just silently heard Andre's mother's words and did not respond to anything. He just turned his eyes the other way as if nothing had happened.
"Madam, this is all I've picked up. Let me do that." Lucy said, pointing at the chili.
"Are you good at doing it? You don't even know how to use a yaw." said Andre's mother.
"Miss can teach me before?" ask Lucy.
Andre's mother also taught Lucy in concocting to make a paste sambal, she also taught Lucy how to knead using a manual chili mill like most Indonesians. He also taught Lucy various kinds of rendang spices and how to cook rendang. While Ratih is now sitting next to Andre while looking at his mother and Lucy who are busy cooking.
