31. My Memory

Janus and Astrid were sitting in the living room, with the room illuminated only by the flash of a cell phone. The hands of this pair of young people held on to each other tightly. For a moment Astrid forgot the anger she felt.

Janus Geo Sayuda is a beautiful name that his parents gave him. She was born to a young Korean mother named Kim Yu Na. From childhood, the man who is familiarly called Janus lived in South Korea seoul. Little Janus is a cheerful child, who is very dear to both parents. He only lives with his mother in one of the luxury apartments in Seoul.

Janus' father, or Adit Sayuda, only returns to Korea every six months. Little Janus often asked about the father who often missed his arrival.

Yu na replied. "Dad works in Indonesia, he can only come home once every six months."

However, the answer did not make little Janus satisfied, he asked again. "Why don't we live in Indonesia with dad."

That question made Kim Yu Na speechless. He seemed agitated about the question that the child just threw his puppet. Yu Na then replied nervously. "Because eomma would rather live in seoul than in Indonesia."

And again Janus was not satisfied with the answer of the woman called eomma by him.

Kim Yu Na just smiled sweetly at her son, and immediately switched the conversation. Whenever Janus whines about going to Indonesia to meet his father, Yu Na always looks for an excuse. It makes Janus wonder why his mother always looks for excuses.

Although Adit only comes home once every six months, but he is a warm father, who always makes the hearts of his children and his wife happy. Every time he came home from Indonesia, Adit always bought something for his son. Toys, clothes, or food. He was the kindest man Janus idolized.

Then one day, Janus often found his mother crying alone in the room. His face looked pale with his body growing thinner and thinner. Janus often asked what made his mother cry. However, his mother always avoided his question from him.

On Janus' seventh birthday, his mother told him that he would take Janus to live with his father in Indonesia. Sontak Janus was very happy with the happy news. Being able to see his father every day was a long-held hope for Janus, without having to wait every six months. The news made Janus impatient to go to the country where his father lived and worked.

One week later, Kim Yu Na and Janus finally set foot in Indonesia. The mother-of-one brought the eldest son to the Baskara Sayuda residence. Yu Na clasped tightly onto the tiny hand of her son entering the mansion that lived in her father-in-law and husband.

Little Janus seemed happy when he entered the big house that he might live in with his parents. When they entered the house, they were greeted warmly by Baskara Sayuda. Another case with Yeni who immediately greeted him with insults. It makes Janus wonder about the woman who berated her mother and herself.

"Who is he?"

"Now she is your mother. Call her mother," replied Yu Na smiling sweetly looking at her child.

Janus was furious when Yu Na told him to call the evil woman mother. Because all he knew was that Kim Yu was his mother. He was also very upset, with his father's attitude that seemed cold when he met him.

A few minutes later, Kim Yu Na left the house without Janus. Suddenly Janus was crying while chasing the car his mother was riding. The car drove fast carrying Yu Na away. Janus can't chase her anymore. He was tired, silent while crying staring at the car that was getting away.

Often Janus whines, asking the people at home to take him away to see his mother. However, everyone ignored his request. Almost every day Janus cried and called his mother. And every time he cried, Yeni always locked Janus in the barn. Not only Yeni who often locked Janus in a dark room. His older brother Bayu, who also often raped Janus, locked him in a closet. They always threatened not to tell their bad behavior to their father or grandfather. With his sharp mouth Yeni and Bayu always berated Janus as the son of a mistress.

Because of their insults, Janus now knows the cause of his mother who always avoids her faith. About the cause of him not being able to live with his father. And about her mother and her status.

Due to the bad deeds of Yeni and Bayu, Janus has nightmares almost every day. Every night she cried alone in her room. He always hid his grief and tears alone.

Janus had thought that his sadness and loneliness would disappear if he met his father. Unfortunately the thing he thought was wrong, every time Adit came home, for some reason Adit was always cold to Janus. The man he had always admired, was no longer a warm man.

However, another case with Baskara, the middle-aged man was always warm to his second grandson. Janus was always happy whenever he was with his grandfather. His sorrow and suffering were lost, if he was with his grandfather. Maybe it was just the Baskar that he currently had. His place was sheltered in the pain and loneliness it felt.
