THE MAFIA'S PENANCE

THE MAFIA'S PENANCE
LIKE HOT STEAM

As I thought, Alec only smiled his smile after walking away leaving me alone. Again I get no answer from what bothers me about my past life.

For a while I would rather sit back in the chair, pour the wine and re-enjoy it looking up at the sky which today is only visible darkness. There was no moonlight or a star.

"Mrs should rest now." Said Esteban who was back inside the balcony door.

His words only hung in the air because I was still silently thinking about the dream. Dream where Vegard is with the woman in the room. The problem with what I did was shoot them. What's the reason I shot them? Me and Vegard were getting engaged, but didn't I love Vernon?

Unknowingly I chuckled at him thinking about it, it seemed like a bottle of wine was making myself a little drunk right now. What happened was always what I wanted, but in reality it was all wrong. Everything that happens is out of my control because there's not even a single answer about my past.

"The lady's okay?" Esteban asked stepping out into the balcony. "Looks like you're a little drunk, go back to the madam's room."

"Est, have I ever asked you anything about yourself?" Instead of answering Esteban's words, I asked the young man who was now standing next to me.

"No, never, madam." Answer Esteban. "You never ask me anything, only I tell you stories."

I heard him smile with a small laugh.

"You know Est, no one ever answered all the questions I asked. That's why I always try not to ask any more questions because all my questions are always like hot steam disappearing in the cold." My speech. I can feel my stiff face right now. Either because of the air piercing the skin or because of my feelings. "Always like that..."

"I will answer, whatever the lady asks I will answer." Esteban.

I looked up to see him with a smile after hearing a single sentence that showed how innocent the young man I was with at the moment was always.

"Well, I'll just ask you from now on." I got up and put an empty glass on the table and looked at Esteban. "I'll go back to my room, you can rest now."

My steps came to a halt when I almost got to the door of my room. Vernon just got out and walked in the opposite direction from where I came. He did not see me and headed down the stairs. I feel like it's something good. I don't want to be with him right now.

When I opened the room door, Gloriana had just walked out of the clothes room. What surprised me was that the woman's hand was carrying a large figura which was a photo of Wynetta.

"Mrs, are you drunk?" Look at Gloriana at me who just came in.

"What are you gonna do with that thing?" I asked after just smiling in response to Gloriana's words.

"Master asked me to get him out of this room." Answer Gloriana. "Have a rest, madam, you look very tired. It's too late."

Although I was still not drunk but my unfocused gaze made me immediately lay my body on the bed.

Seeing Gloriana carry a picture of the woman made me feel happy. Vernon wants to obey my words by getting rid of the thing. It makes me believe that soon I can eliminate Wynetta from Vernon.

In the middle of the night while I was sleeping, I opened my eyes as someone walked inside under the blanket and immediately hugged me from behind. Of course he is my husband—Vernon.

He gave me his kiss until I turned to him. Once again Vernon kissed me and this time he kissed my lips.

"I love you, Vern." My words were immediately clutching her body that was hugging me.

"What's wrong with you, Viv?" Look at Arthur with an unpleasant face as I walk into his study.

Arthur sat behind his desk while Renata stood beside him. When I walked into this room, the two of them were making out. My presence certainly bothers the two of them because the look on Arthur's face is getting creepy with my words saying that I will go back to Vernon.

"Why do you want to go back to him?" Annoyed Arthur.

"I'm sure you know why." My answer. Arthur and Renata certainly know that I love Vernon as much as I did ten years ago.

"One day you'll regret coming back to her." Arthur Seru.

After that, I decided to leave the room and go to my room. After this I planned to take care of all the needs of Vernon's birthday party but before that I wanted to be in my own room.

"Go Est, when it's over I'll call you. You don't have to look after me in this house." I said after that step into the room.

"Viv..." Call Renata before I can close the door. He immediately approached me into the room. Without me expecting it, he hugged me immediately. "I'm glad you're not parting ways with Vernon." He said while rubbing my back.

"Your engagement doesn't seem to like the news, but you're happy. You guys are confusing me why it could be like that." I said while sitting on the side of the bed.

"Art is just acting, I'm sure of it." Renata Laughter. "It looks like you already love Vernon, doesn't it Viv?" Renata sat on my left.

"Ren, tell me, who did you know first? Arthur or Vernon?" Look at Renata.

Renata seemed to be thinking at this moment. He rolled his eyeballs. "Arthur." The answer.

"Then, what Art introduced you to Vernon?" Ask me again and hope Renata answers.

"No. I knew Vernon back at Harvard from a junior." Renata smiled in response. "What's wrong? Why are you asking like that?"

"Is it true that Arthur and Vernon were friends, Ren?" I asked again but Renata seemed to think something. "I know that you and Arthur were in a relationship before you were engaged. When Art and Wynetta got engaged, you two were in a relationship?"

Hearing the question I asked, Renata got up. It was obvious that he was trying to avoid my question.

Immediately I got up and approached Renata who was on my back.

"I know you're the only one who's never lied to me, Ren. I know you always loved me. You didn't even tell anyone about me making love to Alec. That's proof that you love me so much." I said holding Renata's arm hoping she would tell me anything I wanted to know. "I love Vernon now and it's the same as it was ten years ago, but I know that he still can't forget that woman. While sleeping I heard her say that she betrayed him but she still can't forget him. Do you know anything about Wynetta?"

Renata positioned herself against me. Seeing him made me know that he was going to tell me something right now.

"Junior who introduced me to Vernon was that woman. She's Wynetta." Answer Renata.
