"My name is Samuel Barstool, twelfth-tier magician and former headmaster of the academy."
I nodded. I was already aware of the old man's identity when the headmaster called him master.
"Claus Quintin, swordsman." I introduced myself briefly. The old man nodded in silence.
“Klaus, huh? Nice name.”
He then walked towards the nearby bookshelf and picked up a book. “Try me to see, before you, the youngest person to break through the twelfth layer is forty, and yet, you are less than twenty. A very terrible talent. ”
He looked at me and breathed a tired breath. “... My current age is almost a hundred, and I have been trying to break through the twelfth layer for more than half of my life, however, I have not succeeded. Now, it is impossible for me to breakthrough again. Talent really is a scary thing. ”
I smiled wryly.I was unable to tell him that my 'talent' was the result of bringing along knowledge about hundreds of lives.
"Eva, does she know why you brought her here?" The old man asked the principal.
The headmaster, Evelyn Humillitie, shook her head. “I haven't told him. I'd like to ask your permission first, sir. ”
The old man looked down on me. "So so. Of course, he has the qualifications. However, he is a member of the imperial family, so I don't know if telling him is the right decision. You already have students, right? I'm sure he's talented enough to inherit our mission.”
“... Yes, however, you know things have gotten worse lately. Also, I want to tell him. Maybe that will help him in the future. ”
The old man looked at Evelyn for a moment before finally sighing. “You still feel guilty for not being able to help Silna back then, right?”
The principal did not answer.
"i understand." The old man sighed deeply and sat down in his chair. “You can tell him. Now, go, I need to rest for a while.”
"Thank you sir." The headmaster bowed apologizing to the old man. He then grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the room.
I'm used to him pulling my hand, and to be honest, it feels so soft.
However, right now, I am more curious about what happened.
The headmaster realized my doubts and sighed. "Wait a minute, I'll show it to you in person." He then guided me to another room inside the underground structure.
Different from the library, this place was covered by a multi-layered seal. The seal seemed to suppress something, not allowing it to spread. I furrowed my eyebrows. The room in this room felt very unstable.
The headmaster made several magic circles and used them as keys to unlock the seal. He then guided me inside the room.
Once inside, I couldn't hide my surprise.
A space-time vortex stood in the middle of the room. The vortex of space-time was suppressed by the seal, however, I could feel it being connected to a terrifying place.
"What's that?" I asked with a serious expression.
“The biggest secret of this academy, and the real reason the academy was made. It was a portal that led to another world.”
Just like I thought.
I didn't expect to find something like this here. I can understand now why the old man seemed so reluctant to let me see this place.
But at the same time, they are the doorway to great fortune, wealth, and power.
At that moment, the space-time vortex began to tremble.
*rumble!* *bom! Bam!*
It sounded as if something was trying to break through the portal.
Principal Evelyn put on a serious expression. “It looks like today is a good day to eradicate pests.”
He then created an elaborate magic circle and enveloped the two of us inside. "Follow me." He said and walked towards the portal.
The seal pressing down on the portal did not react as we passed through it. Thanks to the magic circle created by the principal, we easily walked up to the portal and stood in front of him.
The headmaster took a deep breath. “Be careful inside and stay near me. Inside very dangerous.”
I nodded, this is not the first time I have seen a portal to another world, so I more or less know the dangers within.
The principal then took a step forward and entered the portal. I waited a little and followed him.
The next second, my surroundings changed.
The well-protected room disappeared, and instead, I was surrounded by space-time turbulence. The walls made of chaotic magic power pulsed with an ominous light.
The principal is in front of me. His body had been surrounded by raging mana, and his blood-red eyes were emitting a sharp light.
Facing him, hundreds and thousands of terrifying ferocious beasts, in all sizes and shapes, growled and charged towards him with bloodthirsty gazes.
“Roaaarrrrrrrr!!” A gigantic beast like a crocodile roared and pounced towards the headmaster, however, he raised his hand and created a fiery red magic circle.
“(Risen Hell)!” He yelled.
Instantly, a black-red flame surged from his hand. In an instant, the hundreds of beasts around him were burnt to ashes. The flames burned them so fast that the beasts could not even shout.
Even a beast like a crocodile, which was a monster with strength above the tenth layer, was unable to last more than two seconds.
I cast an amazed look towards the headmaster. The spell he had just cast was a mixture of fire magic and cursed magic. I even detected a piece of soul magic within his spell.
For someone who has lived less than a hundred years to cast such a spell, even I can't help but admire his talent.
In the blink of an eye, the several kilometers around the headmaster had been cleared of monsters. But as the spell disappeared, more and more monsters attacked it.
The number of monsters seemed limitless, and although most of them were low-level monsters, some of them were strong enough to pose little threat to us.
"What are you waiting for?!" the headmaster. “Quick and help me. The sooner we finish it, the better.”
I nodded and drew my sword. Then, I charged towards the endless waves of monsters.
Looks like I'm gonna skip class today.
