"You're finally here." Katherine frowned when Rose and I arrived at the meeting place.
“Sorry about that, captain. The class was more than we expected. ” Rose apologizes while smiling.
Katherine looked at us with a frown before nodding. Now that everyone was here, he opened his mouth.
"As you know, I'll be the leader of this team. You've heard the principal's orders. Our job is to patrol the campus and try to find something suspicious. Are you clear?"
We nodded in understanding.
The four people in our group were Katherine, Rose, Iris, and me. Two from the student guard, and two from the student council. Katherine was the leader of the student guard, so she was chosen as our leader.
"Captain, how are we gonna do this?" Rose asked.
Katherine thought for a moment before answering.
“I think we better split up. Each chose a zone to patrol so we covered more territory. What say?"
Iris and Rose agreed, but I shook my head. “I think it's better if we form a group consisting of two people.”
"Huh? Why?" ask Katherine.
“Well, if we are attacked, two people can react more effectively. Plus, even if one of us is attacked, the other can help him.” Of course, I have other reasons besides that.
Katherine looked at me with a frown and thought about it, but in the end, she nodded.
Even though he dislikes me, he knows this is not the time to let his personal thoughts influence his decision. My proposal made sense, so he accepted it.
I have to admit that Katherine is quite capable and stoic. Other people his age would reject my opinion just because of our differences, without considering whether my opinion was the best choice or not.
The group was decided quickly. Katherine and Rose are in one team and Iris and I are in another. According to Katherine, she was used to working with Rose at the student guard, and Iris and I worked together at OSIS, so this was the best way to distribute the group.
I'm quite happy with that decision. I was waiting for a chance to be alone with Iris, and it was perfect.
Rose, on the other hand, looked at me with disappointment.
“... I want to cooperate with you.” She's pouting.
I looked at the hero with curiosity. "Why?"
“... I have greatly increased my strength recently, so I want to compete with you again.” Rose said again.
How expected of a hero, just thinking of becoming stronger.
I must admit that the idea of going with her was tempting, but Iris is my goal today. I have to leave it for another day.
Katherine gave us a communication magic tool for each of them. This magic tool allows us to communicate with our team in case of an emergency. Unfortunately, it only works when the communicator is at a certain distance, enough to cover the entire academy.
So, our patrols begin.
…
Iris didn't talk to me as long as we started patrolling, and she always tried to walk a few steps in front of me.
In fact, he's been avoiding me ever since we met again at OSIS. Although he never refused to talk to me, he limited our interactions to the work of OSIS.
After all, he was Bryan's fiancee. It's not good if she gets too close to me after getting engaged, especially after Bryan blatantly accuses us of cheating.
The Iris Family, the Siri Family, was a very traditional noble house. They were almost as old as the three great families, but unfortunately, they were not so strong.
Despite this, they were a first-class family in the capital. Compared to my mother's family, the gap was huge.
Therefore, Iris had to be careful to maintain the reputation of her home. Even if she disliked Bryan, she knew it was her duty as a noble daughter to be loyal to him.
I looked at his purple hair from behind and sighed.
“Iris, we haven't really spoken since we met again, yes.”
“There's not much to talk about.”
I smile. "As I thought, you've changed a lot."
Iris trembled for a moment.
I continued speaking. “Do you remember that night? That was about six years ago. At that time, you were completely different. ”
"… I remember." Iris muttered.
I laugh. "So you remember you crying?"
I can see Iris' neck flushed. “... Prince, please forget it.”
"Impossible. Hahahaha, imagine my reaction when I heard a child crying in the palace garden.I thought it was a ghost. ” I said with a laugh.
Iris was getting flushed. ". I was lost. Anyway, I didn't really cry.”
“Is that? If I'm not mistaken, you scream when I show up. Do you think I'm a ghost or something?” I smile.
Iris flushed and lowered her gaze.
At some point, we walked side by side, talking about our meeting a few years ago. At the time, we were both children.
Iris came with her father to the palace to officiate the engagement with my brother. But at some point, he had abandoned his father and fled.
Normally, he would have guards accompanying him, but since Iris was a very mischievous child, he managed to escape without attracting the attention of his guards. After escaping, he started running around the palace and reached the garden.
The palace garden is huge, and filled with all kinds of shrubs and trees, forming a strange green labyrinth that can confuse even the most experienced gardeners.
So, unsurprisingly, Iris got lost.
And to add to his nightmare, the sun hid a few minutes later.
In the darkness, Iris tries to find her way back to the palace only to get more lost. When she finally found out she didn't know where she was, she started crying.
That's where we met.
While I was practicing my sword, I heard him cry.
Curious, I found a girl crouching on the ground, with scratches on her legs caused by branches. I treated her wound and comforted her. After that, I promised to bring her back to the palace.
When he asked who I was, I told him that I was a prince.
Iris was getting very excited. She told me that she had come to meet her future husband, the prince. And told me that she would be my bride.
But when he returned to the palace, he realized that I was not the prince he was going to marry.
“... I cried a lot that night, you know. Dad even got angry and scolded me.” Iris confessed.
“Is that?” I tilted my head. “Well, not many noble daughters have the right to choose her husband.”
Iris nodded. "… You are right. But I'd love it if….. No, no.”
I stared right into Iris' brown eyes and smiled.
Iris slightly flushed. He turned his gaze to the side and accelerated his pace. I smiled and followed him.
At that moment, a strange sound came from a building near us.
Iris and I looked at each other with shocked expressions. Then, we looked at the building where the sound was coming from.
It was one of the few abandoned buildings in the institute.
