The Surabaya Refuge

The official sanctuary near the silver cape port is almost as large as the capital's existing sanctuary in the eastern borneo area, even so because the population in the city of Surabaya that many make some refugees have to live in the corridor as happened in the shelter in the city of origin Dimas before.

In addition to these shelters being at very low temperatures, some people living in the corridors of the shelters were seen to have hands and feet that paled to a bluish sign they had frostbite. From what Dimas saw, most of these people had serious symptoms of frostbite and could only perform amputations to avoid the person feeling ongoing pain.

"The situation in this shelter is very concerning, it's worse than I thought it was" Dimas said to the general Andika next to him in a soft voice.

General Andika also saw the condition of people in this shelter, refugees here not only experience frostbite but also look very thin who seem to be malnourished due to lack of food. Not only the refugees, the soldiers were also seen to have symptoms of frostbite and also looked thinner than the soldiers they were carrying.

"You're right, it seems that the heaters in this shelter are not very good, besides they seem to be lacking food as well" General Andika said to Dimas in a soft tone as well.

General Andika then waved to one of the soldiers behind him and whispered something to him, the soldier only nodded and after finishing the soldier turned towards the direction they entered earlier.

"What do you whisper to that soldier?" Dimas asked general Andika.

"I just told him to take out some synthetic food to share with these refugees, at least synthetic food will be able to keep them full for a day" replied General Andika.

The refugees who happened to hear the conversation between Dimas and general Andika were visibly excited, although every day there would be food shared by the staff, it was only enough to ensure they did not starve to death and it was impossible to eat until they were full.

A little boy of about 12 years old gazed at Dimas' walking party and looked at the baby he was carrying in a daze, the little boy then gritted his teeth then stood up and walked over to Dimas' entourage regardless of the gaze of the other refugees who were staring at him in surprise.

"Uncle, do you have any fever medicine? I won't take the food you're sharing if you give my brother fever medicine" the little boy said as he pulled the sleeves of the army's jacket behind Dimas.

This voice attracted the attention of many people from the Dimas entourage and also attracted the attention of many refugees who were around. Dimas and general Andika stopped their steps and looked towards the direction the voice was coming from, a girl who looks about 11 or 12 years old is holding a baby with her right hand and the other hand is used to hold the jacket sleeve of one of the soldiers.

The soldier whose sleeve was pulled by the girl looked overwhelmed and did not know what to do, he wanted to make this girl immediately take off her jacket sleeve but he did not know how to get this girl to take off her jacket sleeve.

"You want fever medicine?" Dimas said to the girl.

The girl who heard Dimas' words turned her head towards Dimas, she took off the arm of the army jacket he was holding and looked at Dimas expectantly. The soldier whose jacket arm had been removed immediately moved away from the girl. The girl looked at Dimas and felt that this person seemed to be quite important and felt Dimas could give her the fever medicine that her sister needed.

"Sister, do you have fever medicine? My sister has a high fever and needs medicine so I beg you to give a little to me" The girl said as she lowered her head slightly.

Dimas did not immediately answer the girl, he first looked at the child and found that the boy's hands and feet were pale bluish which signified that he had frostbite. From what Dimas saw it is estimated that if in a few days this girl is left like this then her hands and feet are not expected to be saved at all. Dimas then glanced at the soldier whose jacket arm had been pulled by this girl and told her to come closer, Dimas whispered something to her and then looked back at the girl in front of him.

"If you want fever medicine for your sister then follow this army uncle and follow his arrangements" Dimas said to the girl and immediately the girl nodded vigorously.

The army immediately took the girl away to the outside of the shelter, Dimas saw the girl despite severe frostbite on her hands and feet but still had the strength to walk and hold a baby. The daughter reminded Dimas of his older brother who always looked after him as a child so that made Dimas feel he had to help the girl.

The thing that happened just now was just a small episode in the arrival of the Dimas group at this shelter, they were quickly taken to the room reserved for the governor and met with the governor.

The Governor had already gotten word from his subordinates when Dimas' entourage came to this shelter, currently the evacuation order that was previously in the hands of the army who had previously stopped Dimas' entourage was already in the hands of the governor. The governor let out a long sigh when he saw General Andika and Dimas were in his room, general Andika and Dimas himself are still waiting for the governor to finish reading and understand all the contents of the letter while drinking warm tea provided.

"Conducting an evacuation when it is too late, you see for yourself the conditions of the refugees in this shelter, he said, the number of refugees exceeds the estimated amount so to be able to sustain as long as possible our food supplies cut a third of the food rations that should be. In addition, most of the people here suffer from frostbite that makes them dying, moving them outside might kill them because their body temperature is getting colder. This is because of miscalculations made by local officials, they do not include foreigners who happen to live in the city of Surabaya" the Governor said with a heavy heart.
