I tried so hard to hide my sadness, it was like watching my lover openly flirting with my own best friend, but me and Gibran were not even lovers! Then why did he kiss me last night? Why does he make me so confused?
"Assynoltom..."
"Goddessalam..."
Gustin's return, Adam's father, stops Gibran and Ruby's laughter. His father Gibran did have a Caucasian look considering he was a man from Latin America but he was born and settled here, which is why Gibran had brown hazel eyes, he got them from his father.
"Papa's gone home, really bad tumben." Mama Gibran immediately greeted him with a warm embrace.
"Yes because my daughter wants to have dinner here so my papa can go home" he replied as he waved his hand at me. Somehow I wanted to glance towards Ruby and see her expression and the girl looked uncomfortable.
"Nih papa bring you your favorite red velvet cake" said papa Gibran while giving me a box of medium-sized cakes and I gladly received it, "thank you pah..."
"Why am I not bought?" Gibran Protest.
"It's normal to eat both, too."
"That's why papa!"
I immediately glanced cynically, usually if it was like that I only got a little because Gibran ate quickly and a lot.
"Hello..." Ruby stepped forward, she greeted first because none of us introduced her but her papa Gibran's reaction was to smile thinly as if unhappy when I knew he was the friendliest man.
"Om still want me, right?" Ruby spoke again, her eyes twinkling. I'm sure after this Gibran's papa will also fall for his charm.
"Why has Ruby ever met?" Gibran asked in wonder.
"Yes, he's my old friend" replied Gibran's father but then as if he didn't care much.
It appears that Gibran's mother rubbed Ruby's back as a form of apology for the cold attitude shown by her husband.
"Yuk eat... The food is ready." take Mama Gibran.
Me, Gibran and Ruby finally stepped towards the dining table.
Upon arriving, Gibran immediately pulled the chair where I used to sit, his attention making me happy once again.
"Let's sit down, Ruby..."
And she also broke me down once again because the chair was not for me but for Ruby. The girl then smiled and sat down on the chair, right next to Gibran's place. "Thank you" he said softly and Gibran replied no less gently, "sama-sama."
"Sit here, Jasmine.." Mama Gibran immediately patted the chair right next to her. The rectangular dining table will make me sit face to face with Ruby. My chest feels tight but I'm still trying to smile.
Not long after Gibran's papa arrived, he finished changing his clothes and sat down on the chair where the head of the family should be.
"Well, Jasmine why don't you sit next to Gibran? That's usually your seat!" his papa question Gibran managed to make the atmosphere more awkward, especially on Ruby who immediately looks uncomfortable.
"I want to sit next to my mom." I answered while resting my head on Gibran's mother's shoulder and I got a stroke of affection from her afterwards. It's obvious that Ruby doesn't really like my closeness to Gibran's parents.
We then started eating together, it was clear that if Gibran's parents liked me more, they kept looking at me as if I was their daughter but Gibran... The man was busy watching Ruby who had been moody ever since.
We finished our meal and ate the cake that Gibran's papa bought for me.
Gibran and Ruby were already sitting in the backyard while I prepared this cake for us for three. I deliberately cut off one larger piece that I would give Gibran because he always ate a lot even though his body never fattened.
I was still in the kitchen when I vaguely heard the conversation between Gibran's parents in their room.
"Why are you so cold to Ruby. He's Gibran's friend Jasmine. That's so cute that he seemed uncomfortable eating."
"I just don't like it..."
"You'll probably behave the same way if you know who that girl is."
"Whose child is it?"
"I'll tell you that they're all home."
To be honest I was very curious, what made papa Gibran behave like that to Ruby so he had to fight with his wife but I was not their daughter, I can't ask for clarity even though I feel sorry for Ruby as well.
I then took the three pieces of cake to the backyard, though, my steps get heavier when approaching them but I still approach those who are currently chatting either talking about what Ruby must look more cheerful than before.
"Eating cake after meals is not a problem, right?" ask me when I get in front of them.
"No, I didn't eat much" replied Ruby laughing softly.
"Taste doesn't fit?" ask me again while putting the cake with the biggest cut in front of Gibran.
"Not really..." Ruby's smile looked like it was hiding sadness.
I was just about to touch the back of his hand and encourage him but Gibran already did it first and he also gave the piece of cake in front of him to Ruby.
Gibran's actions disappointed me but I couldn't close my eyes to see Ruby look sad. "Eat the cake, it's really good." said I smiled even though my heart was sad.
I then sat right next to Ruby after giving another cake to Gibran.
"Enak cake..." Ruby exclaimed in excitement after tasting her cake.
"When will we buy this cake sometime, you know the place?" ruby said to Gibran and was immediately answered with a nod of agreement.
Once again they built a wall that separated them from me and I could do nothing but stay alone and feel lonely.

Finally Ruby chose to go home, Gibran drove her while I went home alone on foot. That's because I refused to come with Gibran and take Ruby home because being among them made my heart continue to feel tight until I was tired.
I am tired of this feeling.
If Gibran likes Ruby then why did he give me hope last night?
It's late and the road to my house is pretty quiet, maybe because I'm not used to going anywhere with Gibran so the residential street that's just a block away scares me a little.
"I shouldn't be able to fit in with Gibran together." I murmured as I occasionally looked back and made sure no one was following me but the more agitated I got, the fear grew so much that I started running.
I ran in the middle of the drizzle that started to come down. The rainy season is coming soon.
Oh my God, but I ate so much that my stomach was cramping from running. I then decided to sit on a park bench located not far from my house, I just need to go through four more houses and I'll get to my house but my stomach hurts so I can't walk anymore.
I raised my face and closed the second, feeling the raindrops begin to wash over my face. If this is how I'm going to get wet, but if this rain can wipe away my fatigue then I want to stay here.
Back I remember what happened at the supermarket last night, the man I believed to be my father. I've missed him...
I opened my eyes when I felt the rain no longer dripping on my face even though I could still feel my clothes getting wet from the raindrops and an umbrella over my head.
Someone was paddling me, when I turned to look at that person, who was so thoroughly wet just so that his umbrella could protect me from the rain.
"You can get sick playing in the rain..."
