Second Road

Second Road
Episode 37: Desperation

My heart beats twice as fast. My breath began to fall from fear. In this circle of despair, it was already very clear that something bad was about to happen. Whether it's good or bad, no one knows.

I turned back to Hana. He was still unmoved despite being yelled at by the big man earlier. What's he thinking? Is he on my side? But why did he slap me? Why is all this so confusing?

"W-sister?"

"Why don't you go too. Let's go, it's okay. Hurry up, he'll catch you, just save yourself," he urged as he rubbed his tears that had begun to stop dripping.

On the other hand, the man in black was seen rushing about to approach us. What am I supposed to do? What does he really want?

Uh, wait a minute. It looks familiar, but I can't see it clearly from this distance.

"Hey! Don't move, surrender yourself!" shouted the man in the suit from a distance.

His body that was a bit thick like a mangrove he carried running. With a thick mustache like an adult man, he displayed a serious and somewhat frightening facial expression. Fine dust flew in every step of his foot.

The longer our distance is getting smaller. The feelings of fear and panic that I was experiencing were getting overflowing.

If this keeps up, maybe I'll cry. Can I still cry again? My tears are almost over. I've been crying lately. My eyes are red from irritation. Even a little blurry if I wear it to look. Should I run? I don't want to run, but I have to.

"I'm sorry!" I shouted at Hana's sister.

Immediately, I took a thousand steps and ran away as fast as possible leaving him who was still petrified not to shift a small item.

My foot accidentally stepped on a pointy rock because it was not wearing any footwear at all. I could feel that the skin on my feet had been slightly torn. Slowly it started to feel wet, maybe a little blood came out of that ripped crack. It's a pain from there, but I can't stop running.

I closed my eyes tightly without looking back. What the hell am I doing? My mind was unstable and chaotic, unable to think of anything calmly. Everything is too sudden.

Duarr!!!

A loud voice sounded from behind. My steps stopped because of it. Unexpectedly, the big man had pulled out a desert eagle-type pistol from behind his black suit. From a distance, his large hand skillfully shot him once into the sky as a warning sign.

Within seconds, his hand holding the gun changed direction. The mouth of the gun was directed at Hana's sister who was staring scared. Silent for a moment, several people were seen from a distance, peering over at the sound of gunfire.

The residents of the parlour came out, wanting to know what was going on. I could see them standing in the distance. My heart is sad to see those who look so different from the last time I remember.

They looked just as lousy as me, clothes that were also shabby and a body that was slightly thinner than the last time I remembered. Although it has been several years, I am sure that my memory is still strong. A sad and scared look of face was scattered among them.

Everything is becoming clearer.

"You're that kid, right? Everyone's busy looking for you, you're amazing. The reward offered to catch you is also great. I didn't think I'd be the one to find you. And do you still remember me?" said the man while slightly chuckling.

I goosebumps hearing his terrible voice even though we were already a little far away, about fifteen meters away. Our voices can still be heard from each other if we scream a little.

And yes, I know who the big guy is. I've seen him roam the Chincilla research center several times, where I was locked up. If what I'm guessing is true, then he must be one of the people in charge of guarding the place.

"If you don't come back here, this lady's head will be hollowed out" threatened the man with the gun in his hand.

My panic grew, the man was carrying a firearm. And if left unchecked, I'll really lose sister Hana. I can't leave, I don't want to have his head hit by hot lead from that little gun shot.

"It's okay. Go, this is your last chance" said sister Hana half-whispering. It was obvious on his face that he was scared to death.

"Shut up!" move the man.

The people around here just shut up and watch. There was not the slightest sign that I would get a little help from them.

"Whoever, please call the police!" shouting loudly.

As I thought, they don't care. No one moved to get out their hand-held phones. This world.so selfish.

"Hahaha.no one will listen to you. Come back here and replace this lady. If you're willing to turn yourself in, you'll be treated well later, maybe Miss Agnes will also give you leniency."

All persuasions were launched so that I would return, while his hand holding the gun still did not shift at all, still firmly pointed and ready to spew bullets at any time.

"And for you this lady is very important, right? You don't want his head to go hollow just because you keep running, do you?" he added.

"Why? Come, comehere. You don't want me to pull this trigger, do you?" he said that was accompanied by a disgusting grin, typical of a criminal I had seen on the tube tv owned by the orphanage.

This sucks, no other choice. I walked closer. Step by step I joined with vigilance. A little anxious hope and more fear.

Haha... I'm a loser. I was easily frightened, and it was easy for me to get down on my knees. Can I still be called a man? It was so sad, I even started to be disgusted by my current self.

I don't know how to fight, just give up on the situation. That's funny, isn't it? I was able to get this far from many people in Chincilla and I would end up just because of one person with such an unconvincing look.

"Good, come on, closer" he said with a satisfied smile as he looked at me who was only a few steps away from him.

"B-but.." I said hesitantly.

"What's wrong? heh?" sharp look.

"B-promise me that you'll really let go!" I half screamed. I'm still a little worried that the trigger can be pulled at any time and if that happens, then it's over already.

"Hm? All right, that can be arranged. Give yourself up first." he replied, the grin getting wider, making me even more afraid.

So I take another step forward. Now I stood right in front of him, giving up without a meaningful fight. The gun was slowly dropped. Brother Hana immediately felt relieved on the spot, feeling that his life was saved. But who can save me?

Ahh. Let it be, it's okay. As long as he survives.

That is what I can think of for now, no more and no less. What is important to me is safe. The man smiled broadly, then he gripped my shoulder tightly and the desert eagle gun was even pointed at me.

It was a little horrified, the cold end of the gun touched the back of my ear. Maybe it was just in anticipation that I wouldn't run away again. He promised he wouldn't shoot, so it's okay.

"Good, if this is how I can get the prize money at once to move up the ranks. It was not in vain that I came here," he muttered happily.

"Oh, and after I think again, it seems less interesting. I changed my mind,"

Uh, what does that mean? Change your mind?

I haven't understood his words yet. The gun he was pointing at my head changed direction, back to hooked on Hana's sister who was still sitting on the ground.

"Wait a minute, you promised," stop me.

"I don't promise, I'm just saying it's manageable. And I changed my mind, you know?"

Slowly, his index finger pulled the trigger. And in that thrilling split second, my instincts seemed to be active. I jumped as hard as I could, so my head was heading my chin hard enough. The desert eagle's pistol was thrown out of his hand. Then I continued by biting his hand that was gripping my shoulder so he let me go.

Immediately, I grabbed the gun that was thrown by him earlier and pointed it at the annoying man who was now starting to look panicked. My hands were trembling a little, I had never aimed a gun at a real person before.

Even so, I tried to convince myself that this was just a form of self-defense. I wouldn't really shoot this at people anyway, would I? Except.if it has to.

"H-hey, how brave of you. Come back here and hand over the gun. A little boy like you can't hold something like that" he ordered.

But I won't listen to him anymore. He's been lying and playing around with someone's life. I already have a sword, I no longer need to be afraid. Right, it's my turn.

"Hey, you hear me?!"

I still don't ignore it. My hand is still firmly holding the desert eagle type gun earlier. And no matter what entered my mind, my index finger pulled the trigger smoothly without a doubt.

Duarr!!!

Duarr!!!

One shot I fired, hot lead through his head. And the next shot went right through his left abdomen. His eyes glared in disbelief at what a child like me was doing.

"Arrgghhhh.." he cried out in pain.

Blood splashed out from his body, seeping and dripping down onto the dry and arid ground.

"You will regret this." he said, holding his stomach which I had made hollow. Slowly, he began to fall and fall.

Bruk!!!

His eyes were still open, but he was no longer breathing. I thought he was dead lifeless.

"I won't regret it. Yes, I have no regrets at all" I replied, though I wasn't sure if she could still hear me.

The atmosphere was silent again, the wind was blowing slowly playing my dirty hair full of dust. The gun I was still holding tightly I pointed at him. Although I thought that he was lifeless, but the trigger was back I pulled.

Duarr!!!

Duarr!!!

Two shots escaped back through his chest and shoulders. Blood splashed and began to pool. An incredible sensation filled me, I got goosebumps. The corner of my lips rose, then smiled in the void. The smile slowly widened turning into a small laugh.

For the first time, I laughed over someone's death. With this, I've already dirty my own hands. I've become a sinful creature. This despair gave me calm. It feels so good. Maybe I'm crazy.
