The sunlight forms a golden line across the horizon, a sign that morning has come, but this is not the morning that most people experience. This morning was the morning that Darius and his comrades would return to all-out combat against the hordes of demons.
Darius got up from his break, he immediately clasped back his sword. Victor extinguished the cigar that had stayed in his butt and put it in a bag, then he inhaled the morning air deeply.
Jacob who had been lying on the ground all night staring at the stars in the sky all night without sleep started to wake up and stretch his body, he took out a small piece of dry bread left and ate it.
The most surprising thing was Sophia, she slowly rose from her sleep, her tunic turning dark because her ragged blood and armor gave a horror impression as well as impressing to her other colleagues.
His face really looked like one who woke up early on an ordinary day, apart from a face that was dirty from dust and blood stains, he looked fine as if he had never experienced the pressure of war.
"Ughb ... My body feels like it's really crumpled." Sophia touched the wounds on her already dried up body while grimacing in pain, as if she had just realized that she was injured.
Victor who saw that grinned in astonishment. "Good morning, princess of death. I thought you wouldn't wake up again after seeing your condition yesterday."
"So your mouth is Victor." Sophia said, "Do I look like I'm dying in your eyes?"
"Well, I guess you did look like a dead man in everyone's eyes a moment ago." Jacob who was sorting out the scattered swords also responded.
Darius laughed hearing that, he extended his hand to Sophia who was still sitting. "Welcome back, Sophia. Don't you mind facing death once more?"
From a distance, silhouettes of the bodies of the demons running towards them, this time they look demons with different forms than usual. But who cares? They have reached their limit and it will all end today.
Sophia welcomed Darius' hand and pulled his body to wake up. "I don't understand what you're saying" Sophia said as she picked up her sword lying on the ground, she grimaced again as her movements left some of her wounds open again, "But it looks like I should do it one more time so I understand."
The demons were getting closer and closer, the four remaining soldiers were standing gallantly, they had been fully prepared for an all-out battle today.
"There is no tomorrow! So fight like the undead!" Victor exclaims.
"Well, you can say that too." Sophia.
"If I somehow make it out of here alive, I'll make people remember those words." Jacob responded too.
Victor snorted with a grin, "Then you better not meet me in the afterlife."
The four of them laughed.
"CAMPUS YOU!" Victor shook out the sword enveloped in a golden aura, a sickle-shaped light shot out from that slash and subverted many demons at once.
There was a clash between the four warriors against the demonic wave.
The sound of metal clashing, the sound of bodies falling to the ground, the sound of soldiers shouting, the sound of demonic moans, the sound of explosions from the light forces of Victor and Darius.
That was the sound that was heard in their morning instead of the sound of birds chirping and the sound of cooking furnace fire.
The scent of blood, carrion, rust, mud, dust. That's the scent they breathe in every morning instead of the smell of brewed tea or bread fresh out of the toaster.
One demon lunged towards Darius, he swiftly fended off the attack from the demon and took a step back to keep his distance. The demon looked different from the demon they had been facing all this time, its body completely covered by iron armor, from behind the face cover on its helmet, it was seen two green dots shining intimidatingly.
"You're a little different from other demons." Darius did not relax his vigilance.
"...."
"Well, didn't the soldier speak with their weapons?"
Darius took an attacking initiation, their swords clashed again, attack after attack alternately, one attacked the one defending, then the other way around, and so on.
"Dying in the hands of creatures like you feels better than dying at the hands of those strange creatures." Darius wiped the blood out of his mouth and nose.
"...."
A faint golden light enveloped Darius' body, "RRAAAAHHHH!"
......................
Jacob with his right hand slashed the sword in various directions as if without pause, he had stamina that surpassed most humans even though he did not have the power of light.
He looks like a farmer mowing down the weeds, only disturbing weeds keep popping up.
One demon slashed at Jacob's back with his machete, Jacob staggered and groaned in pain from the surprise attack. But he immediately restored his balance, his attacks becoming more brutal than ever.
"RETURN TO HELL THERE THE LAKNAAATTT CREATURES!"
......................
Meanwhile, Sophia was seen breaking through the sea of demons, she was eyeing the demon ranks holding arrows and crossbows. Such demons had never been seen before, so he had to finish them off as soon as possible because their presence was not anticipated at all.
He ran as hard as he could while swinging his sword to and fro slashing at the demons that were charging at him from all directions.
"ARGHH!" Sophia screamed as an arrow stuck on her shoulder, as she was running with all her might, her body lost its balance and she fell down on the ground and rolled on the ground.
Several demons running around trampled on his heavily injured body, spewing blood as all of his dried wounds were already exposed, fresh blood began to flood the tunic he was wearing.
Sophia immediately got up despite the extreme pain, some demons also started to gang up on her as she came to a halt amidst the demonic waves.
His body staggered, painstakingly fending off the demonic attack, his gaze began to blur. Even so he still clasped tightly to his sword with his mouth twisting a smile.
"G ... I remember it."
......................
Victor's condition did not look better than his other colleagues, even so, he still managed to kill demons in large numbers. But as he used his strength nonstop, he started to run out of stamina, while Darius who was near Victor was still busy facing the demon of armor that looked extremely strong.
"Huff ...." Victor took a swipe, golden rays emanating from his two eyes, golden aura enveloping his sword to form the silhouette of a greatsword. He was preparing an ultimate attack.
"YES!" A gigantic crescent-shaped golden aura shot out from Victor's slash, subverting the hundreds of demons in its trajectory before it finally faded and disappeared completely.
Victor fell down, he held his body with support on his sword which began to suffer damage due to continuous exposure to the power of light.
He took out the rest of the cigars he had stored and ignited them, he sucked the cigars deeply while grinning at the horde of demons crashing towards him.
"God ... Life is short."
