After experiencing the toughest threat of his life, Carlotta went silent for quite a while. Tears had dried up on her cheeks. The open pavilion in the garden of Ferrara became silent. When Carlotta finally looked up to stare at the people, everyone scrambled to talk.
"You can't do that, honey." Said Marco.
Grandma Helena Ferrara hurriedly nodded. "Carlotta, you guys just got married. It's only been two months. You also just gave birth to Maurizio a few months ago. You can't get divorced."
Grandpa Alessandro cleared his throat. "We can send the police or security forces there."
Carlotta nodded quickly. "Papa's not stupid. He must have made sure his whereabouts were hard to trace. When the police or any team gets to the scene, it will be too late. I don't want to mess with Alessandro's life."
Alessandro's grandparents are silent. They obviously didn't want anything bad to happen to their grandchildren. Direct flesh blood that connects the only son of their deceased puppet. Although there is now Maurizio, Alessandro remains their most precious grandson. Carlotta knew in the end Alessandro's grandparents would not oppose this idea of divorce.
This divorce was definitely nothing compared to Alessandro's life in their eyes.
However, this was very difficult for Carlotta. The woman needs to strengthen herself. Alessandro's safety is the most important thing. The more he delayed, the more Alessandro's life was in danger.
So, he quickly pressed Ciara's number. "Give me Roberto Mancini's number."
Ciara sounded a bit surprised across there. It is not usual for Carlotta to call without a warm greeting. But Ciara quickly responded and recognized the urgency in Carlotta's sentence.
"Okay, I'll send it right now." Ciara replied for a moment. "And I will go to Ferrara's house with Carina."
Carlotta was almost crying again. "Nantai ..."
"No. You don't have to explain anything. We'll talk there. Wait for me." Ciara turned off the phone, sent Roberto Mancini's contact, then got ready to leave.
Carlotta nodded with a heavy heart. He didn't want it to end like this. Her happiness has just begun. Not long. He did not want to be separated from Alessandro, nor all those close to him in Rome. God fucking. If his father wanted him not to appear in front of Alessandro again, it would mean that he had to go from here to a faraway place.
Verona is definitely no longer an option. He had been hiding there and failed. The only place he could think of was New York. Isn't that where her mother ran away from her father?
Carlotta did not waste any more time and immediately made a long-distance call to London to call Roberto. "Ciao, Roberto, it's me. Carlotta."
Roberto's voice sounded happy as he replied. "Carlotta! How are you?"
Carlotta shakes. "Not so good. I want to ask you something for a favor."
"Oh? Ask for help what? Justsaytheword. I'll do everything I can for you." Roberto Mancini said.
Carlotta was silent for a moment. It was bitter to say the next sentence. Carlotta bit her lip and closed her eyes. Withstand all pain in the chest. "I'm going to sue Alessandro for divorce."
Roberto sounded surprised. "Have you thought this through, Carlotta? Divorce is not a simple thing. The process will be long and convoluted, especially if you are not divorced properly. Damnit. There is no such thing as a good divorce. If all is well, there will be no divorce. But, I thought you two loved each other?"
Carlotta took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "No. We don't love each other. Please try to get our divorce going fast. I'm not going to file any charges other than custody of Maurizio."
Roberto sounded unsure. "You really mean it?"
Carlotta held back her tears from dripping. "Yes. And please tell all this to my Papa. Does he still call you often?"
Roberto was silent for a few seconds. "Yes. To be honest, he contacted me quite often and regretted why it wasn't me who married you."
"I'm sorry for all Papa's behavior, Roberto. I hope you don't misunderstand." Carlotta.
Roberto hurriedly replied. "There's nothing to forgive, Carlotta. Don't feel bad for me. I'll help you as much as I can. But, you should know one thing."
"What's that?" Ask Carlotta.
Roberto sounded unsure to say this to Carlotta. "Your father still wants us to get married. If you're officially divorced from Alessandro, I'm sure your father will return to cramming the idea of marriage on both of us."
Carlotta held her own head which started to hurt. "Papa's really outrageous."
"That's all I can say, Carlotta. I'll take care of your divorce immediately if there's nothing else I can do to help." Roberto Said.
"Nothing else. Thank you very much." Carlotta said before turning off the phone.
"Based on the shameless old man!" Marco begins to curse after he finishes eavesdropping on anything Roberto Mancini says about Carlotta's father.
Carlotta looked at Alessandro's grandfather and grandmother with regretful eyes. "I'm sorry for what my father did."
Alessandro's grandmother got up from her seat and immediately hugged Carlotta tightly. "It's not your fault, son."
Alessandro's grandfather also joined the cuddling group, though said nothing.
Carlotta rubbed her tears that were back flowing without being prevented. "And please don't say anything to Alessandro. She had to believe I left her because of my own wishes. If he finds out I left because of Papa's request, he'll definitely be looking for trouble again with Papa. I don't want to endanger the lives of Alessandro and Maurizio."
Grandma Alessandro nodded quickly. "alright. We promise."
Carlotta smiled with relief. "Thank you."
"Where are you going?" Ask Marco.
"New York's. Please book a plane ticket to New York for today, Marco. The fastest flight you can find. Mauricio and I are going to the airport now." Carlotta.
Marco shakes. "I'm coming along."
Carlotta looked at Marco sadly. "No, Marco. You have your own life here. I can't possibly drag you into this."
Marco smiled brilliantly. "Who said I wanted to come because of you? I really want to go to America."
When Carlotta and Marco walked quickly to tidy up Carlotta's belongings, only Alessandro's grandparents remained in the pavilion.
"Helena?" Alessandro's grandfather looked at his wife seriously.
"Yes, Julius?" Alessandro's grandmother looked back at her husband. His face is still gloomy.
"I've never killed anyone before. Can I do it now? Rocco Marinelli doesn't deserve to live." Julius Ferrara growled furiously.
Helena was not surprised at her husband's words, because she honestly thought the same thing. "The man has gone too far. But, we need to remember that he's still Carlotta's father. Carlotta can hate us and Alessandro if we do."
"I'm ready to take that sin, baby. I'm very old and maybe I won't be much longer. I will pay for that in hell. It doesn't matter as long as our grandchild can be happy with the people he loves." Julius said seriously.
Helena looked at her husband with teary eyes. Again, the woman nodded.
