Four months have passed since Feli miscarried. Until this moment, Feli also showed no signs of pregnancy. Every night and every chance he and Darren try to score Maxston's offspring.
Tok.Tok
There was a knock from outside the room, undoing Darren and Feli's intention to rest.
"Aunty?"
Darren frowned as soon as he saw Laura who was standing at the door of his room. This was the first time Laura came to their room.
"Can I come in?"
Darren nodded as he turned back his body, giving Laura room to enter. Laura enters and intends to close the door, but she stops him.
"Leave it open"
"So tell me what are you two planning next? Are you going to do surrogacy (hire a surrogate uterus) or are you willing for Darren to remarry?" Laura asked to the point and stared directly at Feli. Feli was surprised to hear the shocking question posed to him, exactly not a question but a choice. Yes, Laura asked him by giving him two options. An impossible choice for him to choose.
"Yes!" reprimand Darren half yelled.
"Let's say, Maxston still needs a successor, and your husband is the only one capable of producing offspring for the Maxston_ generation"
"Aunty, you hurt my wife" Darren interrupted Laura's words, with a grouchy face he looked at Laura.
"I didn't mean to hurt her, but that was the truth. You have to give this family a child, and your wife can't afford it, so the choice is whether or not you get remarried, you have to hire a surrogate"
Feli was just speechless not intending at all to reply to all of Laura's words.
"Aunty, don't make me angry" Darren threatened, hoping the threat would keep Laura quiet.
"Feli, honey, I hope you don't take care of what Aunty says, Laura"
"But still, you two have to make a decision, Darren!"
"Aunty, I'm asking you to come out of my room"
"Nonna will say the same thing tomorrow"
"I'm asking you to come out!" Darren half snapped.
Laura leaves Darren and Feli's room. Darren immediately drew closer to Feli, grasping Feli's hand gently as he rubbed the back of his hand.
"Don't listen, aunty"
"What he said was right, Darren"
"Feli.." erang Darren doesn't like it.
"You're the only one capable of providing a successor to this family. And you, of course, know how important a successor is to a family of business people like us"
"We'll try to give it as much as they want"
"I'm not necessarily able to give you one successor and your family, Darren"
"So you want to see me with another woman?" darren's emotions began to be provoked. Feli was just silent, staring blankly at Darren. In his heart he screamed no, he really would not be able to see Darren with other women. Seeing Darren smile at another woman can make him crazy, let alone imagining Darren touching another woman.
"Come, Feli we just solved this problem some time ago, don't say we have to repeat it again"
"I want to sleep" Feli chose to ignore Darren's words, he immediately closed his eyes and turned his back on Darren.
Darren sighed. It seems that his toughest days are not yet over. Darren must have extra patience to face the women in this house. He got out of bed to close the door. His forehead frowned as he caught a glimpse of the shadow near the door of his room.
Did anyone eavesdrop on our conversation.
The next day, Darren awakens and does not find Feli beside him. Darren immediately got out of bed and looked for Feli to the bathroom. Blank. He didn't find Feli there. Darren immediately went down to look for his wife's whereabouts, Darren breathed a sigh of relief as soon as he saw Feli being with his Grandma and Laura.
"Darling" Darren rubbed Feli's head gently. Feli looked up and just stared at Darren at a glance.
"Sit down" Nonna ordered.
Submissively, Darren immediately sat down beside Feli. His forehead wrinkled as he looked at the several sheets of women's photos strewn across the table.
"What's this?" his frown did not like.
"You can choose one of the women in this photo to carry your baby" Laura replied.
"Yes!"
"You don't have Darren's choice, unless you want to marry another woman, and of course if Feli_"
"I won't marry anyone and I just want a child born from Feli's womb" Darren moved out of his chair.
"Then divorce Feli!"
Darren flinched, he turned his head quickly towards the person who had just said the word that made his blood boil. Why are the women in this house so easy to say the word divorce.
"Grandma what are you saying?"
"If you don't want to hire a surrogate, you two should get divorced"
"Is a successor so important to you? Are my feelings and marriage not important to you?"
"Grandma you're really upsetting me"
Darren immediately pulled Feli's hand, taking her away leaving her Grandma and Laura there. As soon as he and Feli reached his room, he immediately pulled Feli into his arms.
"Don't just shut up, you can cry if you feel pain, and you should rebel too" she said softly.
"Let's do some surrogacy"
"Feli..."
"We're just renting the uterus, not the egg, Darren, so the baby's still our child"
"But still it's very risky, baby"
"We cannot guarantee, the woman who rents her womb has no feelings for the baby it contains, nor can we force her to have no feelings for the baby. You've had it before your pregnancy, Feli. And more than that, I have to pay attention to it because it's our son, and can you guarantee, you're not jealous?"
"So you chose to get married?!" Feli immediately pushed Darren's body. Darren said, There is a point. Feli would not be able to see Darren pay attention to other women, but seeing Darren marry another woman is impossible for Feli. He would not be willing to share with other women. Darren is just his.
"I choose to try"
"Are you sure our efforts will pay off? It's been four months, Darren"
"I don't know baby, but I'm sure God must have seen our efforts and patience. Even your first pregnancy, we have to wait a year, Feli"
"But it looks like your family can't wait to wait!"
"I'll talk to them, I'll convince them, that we are capable of giving offspring to this family. If they can't wait, we better get out of here, I don't need a family that can't appreciate my feelings and my marriage."
"No, we can't leave here until it's over"
"Feli, is there something I don't know?"
