Wizard Runners
Chapter 4's

Aev looked at the blond man in front of him. He's sure he is

never seen the man's face before, but there was something strange

about her.

“Who are you?” he asked again.

The man smirked, and his shadow suddenly became

blurry. When it was cleaned, Teacher Joko's grinning face appeared.

Aev wonder. “So, it's you ..” Although he's never seen

the man turned like this before, at that moment he was too shocked to

overthinking it.

“Why are you so eye catching?” Aev asked.

“After tonight, there is no way we can escape the attention.”

“I've always liked a good theater,” said Mr. Joko,

a sly smile on his face. “But more importantly, this is the best way

to hide you.”

A confused expression appeared on Aev's face. Attract attention

is it the best way to hide it?

“You failed to enter the Academy, then spent half a week

in the largest brothel in town, before being transported by your uncle,” Mr. Joko

smirked.

“No one will act like that when trying

hiding from the Academy,”. “When the magicians of the Academy arrive,

they have to figure out who broke the testing disc. Suspects

first are the people who go or disappear.”

Aev now understands why Mr. Joko sent him to Black

Angel, though she wished the man had told her before.

“But wouldn't the Mases Tester tell them that

that's me?” he asked, recalling the man who tested him in the Academy.

Mr. Joko shook his head. “Mases Testers already

dead.” Seeing Aev's surprised reaction, he added, “That's the only way to

hiding your identity.”

Hearing this, Aev was overwhelmed. Mr. Joko killed the examiner

Mases, and because of her?

After a moment of silence, Mr. Joko said, “We

have a lot to talk about. But first, tell me, what

what do you know about magic?”

“No,” Aev replied honestly.

“No?” Mr. Joko knit his eyebrows. “Then what is

made you come to the Academy?”

“My book,” Aev replied. “He left when I was a kid.

My father never said anything about him until ..” He gulped.

Even now, those memories still felt like new wounds in his heart.

After a while, Aev continued. “Half a year

then, my father was hit by a bandit arrow. The wound became infected, and he

getting sick from fever. In his last moments, he told me

that my mother was a witch. “

With a serious expression, Mr. Joko spoke. “I think I

can tell you why your mom left,”

Aev sat down with attention. Questions about why his mother

leaving has been bothering her for as long as she can remember. He looked at Mr. Joko,

eagerly waiting for the next man's words.

“What you have – reasons the Academy wants to catch you –

is a forbidden Realm.” Master Joko said the last words with

slow, as if they carried great meaning.

“Notted nature?” Aev doesn't know what men are talking about

that's.

Mr. Joko took a deep breath. “When we

using magic, what we're actually doing is manipulating Essence,

some kind of magical energy. Essence taken from Nature. Can you use

magic depends on Nature you can access.”

Aev listened carefully. How little has been

seeing her about magic had already amazed her, and she was eager to learn

more more.

“There is a lot of Nature,” said Mr. Joko. “For example, there is Api.”

He raised his hand, his palm opened upwards.

Without a sound, a yellow fireball sized fist appeared, slowly spinning around

in the air above his hand.

Although a few steps away, Aev could feel the heat

which emanated from him. It was hot enough to burn meat as easily as it was

burning paper.

Mr. Joko lowered his hand, and the fireball disappeared. Him

speaking again, waving his hand. “Angin.”

Suddenly a gust blew through the room, almost sending Aev off

to floor. It disappeared as quickly as it appeared, leaving Aev ‘

Again, Mr. Joko spoke. “Shadowing.”

In an instant, the room became pitch-black. As if

all the light in the world has disappeared, and for a moment, Aev worries him

When the light returned a few seconds later, it was

revealing Aev's shocked face, gaping in astonishment. He finally saw

a glimmer of actual magic power, and it surpassed anything that could

he imagined.

“For magicians, getting Realms is a small matter,”

said Mr. Joko. “That's easily achieved with scrolls or magical artifacts. Passage

the difficult thing was to learn how to draw Essence from the Realm and

using it,”

Aev nodded. It makes sense that such a force

need training.

“Most Realms are bound by the laws of reality,” Master Joko

proceeding. “Fire may burn someone, but it will still

leaving ash. The shadow may hide it, but it will remain

just there. But some realms have the power to change that reality

by oneself. For the Academy, this is the forbidden Realm.”

“And I have one of those?” Aev asked.

Mr. Joko nodded.

“So what can I do?” Prospects have power

like Mr. Joko looks amazing to Aev.

“Currently? Absolutely nothing,” Mr. Joko said as he

chuckles. “Same as having hands doesn't make you a carpenter,

having a Realm doesn't make you a witch.”

It made sense, but Aev still felt a little disappointed.

Sighing, he forced himself to stop thinking about what

he would be able to do so as a mage.

“You said you know why my mom left?” Aev asked, though,

remembering what the man said before.

Mr. Joko nodded. “I think he feels your Nature

when you were a kid. As the son of a witch, another witch must have been

will wonder if you have inherited some of his powers. If

they looked into it, they would find your Forbidden Realm, and you

will be a target for the Academy. ”

Understanding appeared on Aev's face.

“When he leaves you, he may wish that you

will live a normal life, never like meeting another witch. In order to

saving her son, she sacrificed seeing him grow up.”

A hint of sadness appeared in Teacher Joko's expression as she

saying those words, as if he was reminded of a distant memory but

painfully.

Meanwhile, Aev felt a sudden feeling of gratitude

against mother. For the first time,

“But why did you help me?” Aev asked.

“My reason is my own reason,” Mr. Joko replied

curt.

Aev suppressed his curiosity. It is clear that whatever

encouraging the man to help her was something she did not want

the discussion.

“So, what will we do now?” He asked .

After some hesitation, Teacher Joko replied, “I haven't

know. There are some powers within the Empire that can keep you safe,

at least for a while. Are they ready to do so …

that's a different thing.”

The answer just leaves Aev with more

questions, but a small part of him was relieved to hear the uncertainty

in the voice of Mr. Joko. Apparently, the man didn't know everything.

Finally, Aev asked a burning question

in his mind from the beginning of the conversation:

“Will you teach me how to use magic?”

Mr. Joko laughed. “We haven't even escaped the jaw

Academy, yet you've been thinking of learning magic?”

Aev flushed in shame. In his desire to learn

magic, he had almost forgotten about the danger he was in.

“But yes, I will teach you.” Master Joko's Expression

seriously changed. “I can protect you for now, but in the end,

The academy will find you. When they do, you have to rely

your own strength to survive.”

Aev's excitement at the prospect of learning magic dimmed instantly.

Will the Academy find him? And he must face the Academy's magician

by himself? That thought frightened Aev.

“For now, go back to your room, and sleep. Our

go at dawn.” Master Joko's tone confirmed that the talks had

done that.
