Even though Aang Feng said Redwater wasn't much of a city, Aev was still
he found himself impressed by the sight. That's a couple more times
great from Riverbend, with plenty of homes and shops, all featuring a roof
black tile slanted.
At first, he was confused by the name of the city, but when he saw the colors
the redness of the river flowing in the city, he understood.
“This is iron,” Aang Feng explained. “There is iron in the hills between here and
mountains, and it turns the river red. But it doesn't feel like
painful.”
Aev nodded, though he secretly decided to keep drinking beer
when he was in town. Not that it's a severe punishment, of course.
As they searched for lodging, Aang Feng made them stop
several times to try the cakes and steamed buns sold by the merchant in
roadside.
“Try this one,” he said, thrusting steamed bread into his hands. “There ****
roast inside,”
Aev complies reluctantly, but he soon discovers that Aang Feng's eyes are
for incredible food. However, after the fifth food stall they
visit, he starts to wonder how a little girl can eat
so many.
Finally, they found an inn. Small and quiet, it seems
it did not receive many visitors, which was perfect for Aev and Aang Feng.
“Are you two going to share a room?” ask the innkeeper, staring
they are suspicious.
She was a thin-lipped old woman with black hair in a bun
strictly, and from his expression, it was clear that he strongly disapproved of them
they both share a room.
Quickly, Aang Feng shook his head. “Oh, no! We will
take a separate room!” His face is slightly red.
The innkeeper nodded, his mind seemingly calm. “Itu
doin' fine. This is the right lodging, remember – do not play around in
here.”
After they paid the innkeeper, the woman showed them
to their room, which was small but clean, with no speck of dust to find .
From the look of the innkeeper, Aev guesses that every waiter who
skipping a single point while cleaning up will deeply regret it.
“Now what should we do?” Aang Feng asked after them
put their bags down in their room.
“First, we need to see the armor,” Aev said.
There were several armors in Redwater, but Aev rejected their first two
visit after seeing their merchandise quickly. The armor
they sell flashy and complicated, but it looks like it was meant to be
show than used.
Aev is not actually a master of armor, but as the son of his guard
know what kind of armor they need, and this is not it.
When they visit the third armor, Aev soon finds out that this one is far away
better than the previous two. The armor here doesn't look as good
which they saw elsewhere, but it was sturdy and functional.
After examining several pieces, Aev found a long brown coat.
The outside is mediocre, but the letter is sewn into the fabric in the section
deep, and overlapping steel plates protect the chest area. Smile appeared
on his face.
“How much for this one?” He asked .
“You have good eyes,” said the shopkeeper. “Three gold crowns it.
Not the cheapest, but it will stop the arrow from dying, without you having
so many scratches to show for it.”
“Do you have anything else like that?” Aev asked, pointing towards Aang
Fengs.
The shopkeeper looked at him. “Eh, I think I have a size kids in
around.”
Ignoring the angry look Aang Feng gave her, she went to
back of the store, then back with three smaller coats.
“It's very heavy!” Aang Feng complained as soon as he tried one
mantle.
“Better than carrying a sword through a crate,” says Aev while
Despite the grumbling, he finally decided to put on a red coat
– is the best of the three, even if it's a bit too tacky to like
Aevs.
After a few bargains, they left the store with two coats,
as well as two pairs of leather gloves of steel. Aev's attempt to persuade Aang Feng
that they also needed a helmet and a failed spaulder, with him arguing
that dressing like a soldier will only attract attention that is not
desired.
On the way back to the inn, they also stopped at some
the weapon shop, and Aev picked up a simple but well-made spear,
a nice yew arrow bow, and a few dozen arrows.
Meanwhile, Aang Feng looked on desperately.
“You only buy toys now,” he said with a sigh.
There was a hint of truth to his words, of course. As sons
a guard, Aev spent much of his youth enviously looking
weapons and armor guards. Now he has coins to spend,
he would not miss the opportunity to fulfill some of the dreams of the time
his little.
Nevertheless, he thought, even if they did not really need
weapons, having a few extras doesn't hurt.
They brought newly purchased armor and weapons to the inn, at
where the innkeeper was giving them a suspicious look when he was
the spear and bow that Aev carried.
“Do not plan to cause problems, right?” he asked .
“Just prepare for the rest of our trip,”
The woman looked at him suspiciously again, but did not say anything
any more.
“There are some other things we should get,” Aang Feng said after
they lower their previous purchases.
“Do we not have everything we need?” Aev asked, confused.
They've got food, armor, weapons – he can't think of anything else
what they need on the road.
Aang Feng shook his head excitedly. “We also need
buy clothes,” said. “Something worth it, for when we visit
cities.”
Aev could see the sparkle in his eyes that showed need instead
the only motivation, but after they spent most of the afternoon
shopping for armor and weapons, he was not in a position to argue
with him.
It didn't take long before he discovered that this time, it was his turn
dragged into the city against his will.
Aang Feng had them visit shop after shop, buying at least
half a dozen dresses, as well as some clothes for Aev that look no
practical or comfortable.
Several times he objected, and each time, he told her
that if they had to visit the nobles along the way, Aev
you need to wear these clothes to fit.
When Aev noted that he did not know nobles, let alone had
the plan to visit them, he just cut it with a frown.
When Aang Feng finally announced that they were going back to
inn, Aev could only sigh in relief. Now he holds some
brightly colored clothing bags that cost much more than all combined
armor and weapons.
Even if they did not have to worry about gold, he was shocked by
luxury spending. The gold they spent on clothes could easily
buy a farm in Riverbend.
They walked back to the inn, Aev's hands filled with bags full
clothes as he followed Aang Feng.
If nothing else, at least shopping seems to have improved
his mood, and he chatted cheerfully on the way back.
As they approached the inn, a loud voice suddenly
sounding, “That's them! They are the ones I told you about!”
In front of them was the shopkeeper who had sold Aev his new bow.
Behind the man, Aev could see three white-robed figures.
