“It feels like a dead mouse,” said Aev, his face twisting disgust at the taste
bitter the potion.
The gray-haired woman scowled. Aev finds out that his name is
Doctor Zhang and that he is Lord Aang's personal physician. Lord Aang has been
assigning her to take care of Aev, but to Aev's dismay, her care
it is mostly made up of herbs that taste bad.
“You're a boy. Acting like a man,” he said flatly.
Aev sighed. The woman was right, of course – no matter how rotten
the potion, he had to admit that it worked very well. Amongst her ingredients
and the technique that Lord Aang had given him, it only took him a week to
recovered from most of his injuries. Without them, he thought, he would need
months – if he will recover at all.
He took a deep breath, then swallowed the potion. That taste
he vomited, but managed to hold it.
“Good,” Doctor Zhang said. “Now, you can eat.”
Hearing this, Aev's eyes brightened. While the herbs given
the woman was truly vile, every meal she had eaten since waking up was
the absolute feast.
He ate in silence, trying to ignore Doctor Zhang's watchful gaze.
Although the food was amazing, the woman seemed to be worried that she was not
enough to eat, and he took it himself to make sure.
Not that Aev has trouble eating – only that this food has chicken
roast, duck, dumpling, stomach*** boiled, and various vegetables, respectively
better than anything he'd ever felt before he got here.
By the time he finished eating, he was already full so he felt almost
can't move.
Doctor Zhang nodded in agreement. “At least your appetite has completely recovered.”
“I'm thinking .. Maybe it's time for me to get up and go
going outside,” says Aev hesitates. “Don't you think some sports and
fresh air will be good for me?”
Doctor Zhang looked somewhat doubtful as he thought about his words, but
to Aev's surprise, he finally nodded.
“You haven't fully recovered yet,” he said, “but I think some practice
light may be good for you. Alright. Finish your training first
in the past, and I will send the girl in an hour or two.”
“That girl? ” Aev felt a slight discomfort as he realized Aang
Feng will join him. He has been visiting her every day since she
wake up, but though at first, she is happy with the company, she
soon discovers that she is more fussing over him than the Doctor does
Zhang.
His normal cold and aloof personality seemed to have been
disappeared completely. Now, she acted like a mother who cared too much
caring for a sick child, constantly worrying whether Aev is eating and enough
recess. And no matter how hard Aev tries to convince her that she's –
in fact, most of his time is spent resting or eating –
the worried expression did not leave his face.
“You think I'll let you go alone?” Doctor Zhang said,
raised his eyebrows in disbelief.
“Alright, I will go with Aang Feng,” Aev said. He's been a long time
knowing that once Doctor Zhang makes a decision, no one
convince otherwise. And at least he could finally leave the room,
even if it was with Aang Feng by his side.
“Now start working,” said the woman. With the last firm look, though,
he exited the room, leaving Aev.
After a few minutes of blank thinking, he started working, practicing the technique
which Aang Aang gave to him.
The technique he discovered, was very simple. All he needs to do is
closed his eyes and circulated Essence – Shadow, because that was all he had
have – surround his body with a certain pattern, make sure he reaches
every part of his body.
The pattern was complicated and it took him two days to fix it, but
after that, the exercise is almost as easy as breathing.
At first, he thought that something simple was impossible
it has a lot of effects, but he soon finds that after every session
training, he felt his injuries improve and his body grow stronger, he said,
if only a little.
Time passed by unnoticed when Aev was training, and he was shocked when
I heard a knock at the door. A moment later, Aang Feng entered.
“Doctor Zhang told me that you are allowed out today,”
said. From the look on his face, it was clear he disagreed with the woman's judgment
“She said exercising would be good for me,” replied Aev.
Aang Feng looked doubtful, but he did not refute. “Tell me if
you are tired,” he said with a worried frown.
Soon after, Aev stepped out for the first time since he
waking up.
Soon, he was shocked by his surroundings. The room he lived in, the,
now that he saw, was part of a small hut that stood in
in a vast garden that stretched as far as he could see.
“What is this place?” He asked .
“This land belongs to Uncle Bear,” said Aang Feng with a respectful look at
his eye. “He has lived here since the early days of the Aang Clan. That's one of those
holy place clan.”
With that they departed, Aev followed closely behind Aang Feng as
they walked through the seemingly endless garden, following the path
small passes through ponds, carved stones, herb fields, and gardens.
Sometimes, Aang Feng would show rare plants and trees, and Aev
found himself impressed at his level of knowledge and the breadth of the estate.
Along the way, they found several huts and pavilions, but
they did not meet anyone else, despite walking for several hours.
“How big is that estate?” Aev finally asked.
“Are you getting tired?” Aang Feng asked in response, and Aev
I could see worry in his eyes.
“Not at all,” Aev lied. Actually, he's getting a little tired, he's getting a little tired,
even if he enjoyed the feeling of finally being on his own feet
any more. But if he told Aang Feng, he knew that he would soon
take him to his room. “I just want to know where those people are.”
Aang Feng gave him a questioning look. Then, suddenly, his eyes widened.
“Of course, you don't know!”
“Do not know what?” Aev asked, wondering if he lost
something's.
“This,” said Aang Feng, while waving his hand, “is private property
Uncle Bear. Very few people are allowed to enter it.” She looked
to Aev, a serious look in his eyes. “You must understand, even within the Aang Clan,
less than two dozen people allowed inside the plantation.”
“How many people are in that clan?” Aev asked.
Aang Feng furrowed his brows in thought. “I don't know exactly,”
said. “In the whole Empire, maybe five million,”
Aev gaped in shock. “
“As I said, I don't know exactly how many,” he said.
“But I know that every one of them would be surprised if they knew you existed
here.”
“Then what about you?” Aev asked. “When you tell
Stormleaf that you will ask your uncle's help—”
“I lied,” by Aang Feng. “Clans members allowed to petition
to Uncle Bear when they disagreed with the decision of the clan elder,
but actually meeting him .. A very little honor that
can be claimed by the clan. When I talked to Stormleaf, I tried
to make myself seem more important than I am, to prevent it from
hurt us. ”
He smiled wryly. “I didn't expect that he would see
my lies as an opportunity to gain influence for the Academy.”
Aev nodded, finally beginning to understand why Stormleaf was trying so hard
to win Aang Feng. With Aang Feng's words, the man was probably
thought she was some kind of princess of the Aang Clan.
“But to be honest,” continued Aang Feng, “just being here makes all
what I have done is worth it. Meet directly with Uncle Bear ..” Him
shaking his head, smiling brightly. “Only that is enough to make
my voice felt heavy inside the clan for as long as I lived. And I have to be grateful
love him for it.”
Aev remained silent, feeling uneasy at Aang Feng's expression of gratitude.
If anything, he thought, he should show gratitude. Temporal
aang Feng's hands were no longer covered in bandages, he could see some marks
small wounds on them,
When he saw that Aev remained silent, Aang Feng asked, “Are you
alright?”
“I'm just a little tired,” he said, trying to smile.
Immediately, his expression became worried once more. “I've made you
walking too long! We have to go back now!”
When they returned to the cottage, Aev really started to feel tired
