Cleantha still could not believe that she was walking down the same hallway. The hallway he used to walk through every day. Lead her to a beautiful and stifling golden cage.
He felt imprisoned, stuck on the fine line between love and hate. Sometimes they want to escape but they also want to stay in it. Surviving in the deadly control of a King Adhiyaksa.
But foolishly, he now surrendered himself to the cage. Once inside, he was sure he would not be able to come out again.
Due to the anxiety of her heart, Cleantha simply stayed in front of the door of the King's room. Not knocking on the door nor telling him of his arrival.
"Why do I obey Mr Alvian's orders? I should have considered first what decision I'd make before coming here,"
cleantha thought she was sorry.
Cleantha turned her back, about to leave. But the door leaf suddenly creaked, opened by someone from inside.
"Cleantha???" the king said as their eyes met each other's eyes.
"Is this really you? You really came to see me?" asked the King holding Cleantha's shoulder. I want to make sure that he is not dreaming.
"Yes, sir, this is me" Cleantha replied stammeringly.
"Why don't you knock on the door? Come in," said the King guiding Cleantha inside.
The king closed the door and invited Cleantha to sit on the sofa.
Because it had not been together for a long time, the awkward atmosphere seemed to envelop the two of them.
Cleantha circulated a glance at the room she had once occupied. Some of the furniture has changed position. Some are even lost and replaced with new furniture.
The clothes she was wearing were no longer there. Apparently the King really wanted to remove his tracks from the bedroom. And that fact left Cleantha's heart torn to shreds.
"I came here because I wanted to keep my promise to you. At the party, sir helped me. So I will obey your request. Please Sir speak, I will listen," said Cleantha flatly.
The smile on the King's face disappeared. He had thought Cleantha had come to ask him for a referral. But it turns out that the girl only wants to return the favor for her help.
The king cleared his throat before starting his speech.
"I've figured out why you asked for a divorce from me. Turns out what Alvian said the other day was right. Keyla forced you to separate from me."
"Our divorce is not over. That's why I want to ask you, do you still want to defend our household?" asked the King to look at Cleantha.
"Sir, on what basis should we refer? I'm just a paid wife, sir. Our marriage was a transaction. Unlike marriage in general, which is based on love" Cleantha said.
"But I can't blame you, sir. I sold myself for a hundred million" Cleantha said sadly.
The king was surprised to see Cleantha teary eyes. Not usually the girl cries easily. Perhaps Cleantha was too depressed by the many problems that surrounded her. And this was the right time for him to reveal his heart.
Although he is not the type of romantic man, but as a husband has become his duty to entertain the wife.
"Our marriage began with a covenant. And I'm just using you to take revenge on Vira. But now everything has changed" said the King holding Cleantha's hands.
"Nothing has changed between us, sir. Sir is Zevira Adhiyaksa's husband. And I'm a nobody" Cleantha cut.
"Now you will be my only wife, because my feelings for you have changed."
Cleantha felt the look in the eyes of the current King was the same as the look in Alvian's eyes when expressing love to her.
Unavoidable, his heart pounded fiercely. Hoping and waiting for the moment where the King expressed his feelings.
"I only realized this after we split up. I want you to stay by my side. If you are willing to return to me, then I will cancel our divorce proceedings," the King said in a heavy voice.
He feels like a teenager who has trouble expressing love to his girlfriend.
"I'm sorry that I hurt you all this time. If we were together again, I wouldn't be rude. I will definitely make you happy. But, I will not force, the decision is in your hands, Clea," the King added.
Hearing the promise spoken from the King's lips, Cleantha was both happy and disappointed. Happy because the King still wants him. But disappointed because that was not what he wanted.
He hoped the King would confess his love as Alvian did. And I don't know why he even wanted the King to behave like he used to. Always forcing her to stay by his side. Instead of giving up that easily and giving up the decision in his hands.
Seeing that Cleantha was still silent, the King tried to convince her.
"On your father and Keyla, you don't have to worry. I'll talk to them about our marriage" the king added.
"I need your answer, Clea. Say "yes" or "no" so that everything is clear to both of us. And I want to know how you feel about me" asked the King, waiting for an answer.
While Cleantha was still deep in thought. Trying to overcome the inner war that is widening it.
Some of him told him to go back to the king. The other part forbids him to do so. Moreover, there was still Zevira among them.
Could it be that he could make Zevira divorced by the King. Right now he was burdened with guilt for Ayesha.
This inner conflict is exhausting and mind-draining. Like two opposite sides of a currency.
"Sir, please give me some time tonight to think about it" Cleantha replied.
Although a little disappointed, the King decided to give up. He wants to show Cleantha that he is not a dictator who likes to impose his will.
"alright. I'll wait for your answer tomorrow."
The king walked towards his wardrobe, fetching a pair of sleeping pajamas for Cleantha.
"Some of your clothes I keep here. Now change your dress and rest. I won't bother."
"Thank you, Mister. I'm sorry I couldn't spend the night in the same room as you. Please allow me to sleep in one of the guest rooms" Cleantha pinta received the sleeping pajamas the King had given her.
Unfortunately, he must learn to be patient until Cleantha gives a decision.
"Wait here. I'll call Mr. Darma."
The king walked out of his room. Not long after, he came with Mr. Darma.
"Come, Madam. I will take Madam to the room for rest" Mr. Darma said respectfully.
"Thank you, sir."
Cleantha followed Mr. Darma to the guest room on the first floor.
"Please rest, Madam. Good night," said Mr. Darma leaving Cleantha.
After locking the room door, Cleantha took off her dress. Replaced with sleeping pajamas given by the King.
While inhaling as much oxygen as possible into her lungs, Cleantha laid herself down on the bed. Confused himself with his very unstable emotions.
Cleantha changed her sleeping position several times, hoping that her feelings would improve.
"Why am I being sensitive, wanting to be noticed and loved more than usual? It's not like I'm. I'd rather sleep than think no-no. Tomorrow I have to make an important decision in my life,"
inner Cleantha closed her eyes.
...****************...
The ringing of the cell phone woke Cleantha up. Feeling reluctant to leave the bed, Cleantha got up slowly and grabbed her phone from the nightstand.
Keyla's angry voice came from across the phone.
"Where are you now, Clea? I thought you were going home, but you weren't. Father and Aunt Ana have been asking for your whereabouts since last night. Are you at the King's house?"
"Yes, Brother. I'm staying at her house" Cleantha answered honestly.
Keyla's voice was rising.
"Oh, so now you prefer him over your family. You really want to forget about me and Dad, then refer to Lord King?" jolt Keyla.
"Enough, Brother. Today I will make a decision about my own life. I won't let anyone set me up again."
"Clea, you dare to be rude to me now?" keyla asked in disbelief.
Cleantha would give a response, but her stomach felt nauseous. His nausea was even more devastating than what he had experienced last night.
Quickly, he ran to the bathroom. Leaving her phone still connected with a call from her brother.
"Are you pretending not to hear me? Clea.answee!" exclaim Keyla.
...****************...
While outside, the King knocked on Cleantha's bedroom door. He could not wait to hear the answer from his wife. Ask if they can re-refer as a married couple.
"Clea, open the door!" knock the King a few times.
But Cleantha had not yet opened the door.
"I have to be patient in a minute. Maybe he's still sleeping."
"Clea," call the King once more.
And this time, the wait came to fruition. Cleantha opened the door for him.
"Why is your face pale, Clea? Are you sick?" asked the King to touch his wife's cheek gently.
"I just threw up, sir. It might just catch a cold," Cleantha replied weakly.
"Then lie down again. I'll call the waiter to bring you breakfast. After that we go to the hospital. You should be checked by a doctor."
Not wanting to waste any time, the King immediately summoned a female servant to help Cleantha.
Zevira, who was at the dining table, was curious to see the king pacing back and forth in the morning.
Moreover, Bi Dewi gave her the information that Cleantha had returned last night.
Now he's racking his brains, looking for a way to prevent Cleantha and the King.
"Dewi what happened? " ask Zevira.
"I heard that the village girl was not well. Narti said he threw up, Madam," Bi Dewi replied.
"Vomiting? Is Cleantha pregnant? This can't happen! If Cleantha was pregnant, the King would not have divorced her,"
thought Zevira was desperate.
"Mrs, are you okay?" tanya Bi Dewi saw Zevira's lips paled.
Zevira did not answer. His bones were hollow, imagining that the King and Cleantha would be happy in his suffering. That meant that he had already lost to a snot girl like Cleantha.
But Zevira's frustration suddenly disappeared when she remembered something.
"I almost forgot. It was only good that Cleantha was really pregnant. Her pregnancy will keep her separated from the King forever."
