Chapter 20: Back to Forming a Party

I finally reached Ciatar City at sunrise. Yesterday, Uncle Reinald and I went through the woods looking for Riel and that cat girl named Momo. We continued to search from late afternoon until late at night.

Uncle Reinald and his hunting companions told me to rest, but I continued searching outside the forest area. After I had walked too far, I decided to return to the village and face the uncle.

You stubborn! I told her to come home with me but she went with the cat girl instead. He thought his ability was enough to fight the bandits at their headquarters?

First their number there must have reached dozens of people. Then the name of the headquarters must be their leader whose level is equal or more than mine.

Until midnight I was in the village. They were very good because they gave me a place to spend the night, and also transportation for me to return to the city the next day.

But Uncle Reinald made it clear to me that they couldn't do anything to help us further.

I-i understand. It is not their fault, but my negligence. That was how it was yesterday until I arrived in Ciatar City this morning.

After getting off the horse carriage, I did not return to my inn first. I immediately ran towards the adventurer guild and looked for Clara. 

As I walked in and slammed the guild door, everyone's attention was immediately on me. They were all mostly shocked and grumbled because of my actions. This was the second time that someone had opened the guild door violently this season. 

"What's going on, Shin? Why are you opening the door so rudely?" Clara called me from the table where she was standing guard. "Then tell me why you're going home one day longer?"

He asked me in annoyance. He told me to pick up Riel after I recovered, and to go home as soon as possible because there was news that the bandits were around. But the fact is I'm home a day longer.

I walked to his desk in a hurry, even grabbing some adventurers who were waiting in line. The adventurers were certainly angry and grumbled, but I didn't care about them.

"Where's Riel? Has he also been..."

"Clara, I'll borrow you for a second." I cut the question.

"Eh? Wait, what do you mean?" Clara doesn't understand what I'm saying.

"Go back to your inn and get ready. Come with me to Deedalee City right now."

"Hee, wait a minute! What do you mean you suddenly want to kidnap me?"

Aaaah! You stupid bunny. I turned inside the reception room and pulled Clara's hand to drag her out.

"Shim! Wait up! Explain to me what's really going on." Clara fought back when I pulled her. "I can't leave my shift without Guild approval... Kyaa!!"

Because this rabbit is chatty, I change to be pulling his ears while walking.

"sick! Pain, Shin! Don't pull me roughly like thatuuu~~"

This was indeed the most powerful way to force Clara. He followed me so willingly that he left the guild. Actually I just clasped his ear firmly and pulled it slowly. It is just excessive.

"Huuu~~ Why do you always pull my ears like that...?" Clara sat down and sobbed. His hand held onto his ear, which looked fine.

"If I don't do it, you won't obey."

"At least don't pull them rudely!"

"Well, I'm sorry." 

I'm waiting for Clara to calm down. He still looked at me like a bad person while holding his ear. I'm sorry, so why are you still looking at me like that?

"What's going on?" Clara asked. He could finally focus on the main problem.

First I told him what had happened since arriving in the village. Starting from meeting Riel, the human race and half cats, and also the activities of the bandits.

After that I also said that Riel suddenly went with the cat girl, to save her friends at the headquarters of the bandits.

"So you're saying, you want me to come find Riel in Deedalee City?"

"Yes." Yeah."

"But if I haven't asked permission..."

"That guy won't let you, as long as I'm still involved in it."

"eeehh... I have long since decided not to hold a gun anymore. But I don't want anything to happen to Riel."

Clara had a trauma the last time we were in a party. At that time Clara felt that the disbandment of our party was her fault. Though I've explained if you don't want it to happen it will happen to us too.

"I don't mind if you don't want to come. Besides, I alone am enough to take care of a bandit headquarters."

"Eh? then what are you taking me for?"

Yeah, he's gonna ask you this. That bandit is nothing to me, let alone their boss who might be of an equal or even higher level. I can still beat them all by myself.

But there was one thing that made me uncomfortable from then on. 

While I was looking for Riel in the forest near Arin Village, I found the former camp of the bandits in one of the empty places.

Villagers including hunters there did not know that there was a bandit camp near their village. That was because the bandits used magic crystals in place of the use of campfires and lighting. So it will not be seen or smelled of smoke from their place.

But as I went further outside the forest, I found the bodies of bandits near the river. They were all strewn with blood everywhere and the condition of their carriage was still intact.

It was a long way from the train tracks. So the bandits must have gone to their next destination, and in the middle of the road they met their death.

Someone had slaughtered them all and brought the children of the half-cat race. Riel left with an empty purpose, and that someone was also wandering around nearby.

"Maris Rufus."

Clara's eyes widened to hear the name, her ears also stiffened upwards.

"Where is he?" Ask Clara in a drastically changed tone.

"In the place where I'm taking you." My answer.

Clara immediately got up from her position, and clenched her hands tightly. I don't remember the last time I saw him like this, it was a long time ago. 

"We'll meet at the station in half an hour." Clara left me.

Maris Rufus's. I will never forget what he did to our party. She was one of the causes of our party breaking up and Clara got her trauma.

I can tell her whereabouts, because the way she killed those bandits was none other than her trademark.

The slash of the sword that scratched the limbs of the bandits and did not make it break, but was extremely fatal for crippling their movements. Then after they all can not move, the next game will just start. 

I hurried back to my inn to prepare the equipment. In half an hour we will meet at the station and leave for Deedalee City by train. We should have been able to arrive before noon, and continue looking for Riel there.

Riel can't get to meet that guy.
