“You're healthy, baby?” Papah stroking my hair and cheeks made my eyes back in tears.
“Alhamdulillah, Papah healthy? Does high blood not recur? Do not be reckless, said Mamah, do not eat goat satay secretly again!”
Papah laughed at me who immediately nagged him.
“Aah, Papah misses your nagging, dear.”
I laughed even with teary eyes.I really miss them, really miss them. After breaking up from the Lieutenant made me break up with them. I know I'm wrong, but any contact with them will remind me of the man who hurt my heart. That's why I decided to stay away.
“Tante knows Kekey?” asked Mas Reihan made us realize that we were not alone there but there were some people who looked at us with curiosity. But I didn't see my office mates there, maybe they went to eat.
“This, our lost daughter.” Mamah clasped my hand with both hands as if afraid I would leave again.
“Not Mas Yudha single son?” asked Widy who was standing next to the Lieutenant who was looking at me with a look full of mystery.
“Yudha is indeed our only son, and.. Kekey is our only beautiful daughter.” Mamah said while pinching my cheek gently making me smile.
“So already rich sister Mas Yudha huh?” widy asked but none of us answered that, and it made the awkward atmosphere suddenly felt.
“Congratulations.”
I reached out to reduce everyone's awkwardness and suspicion, with a sincere smile that I was trying to show. Seeing that made Widy smile and then accept my hand.
“Thank you, meaning I'm your sister-in-law,” he said with a big smile to make me silent for a while before returning to smile.
I now reached out to the Lieutenant but without a smile, “Congratulations.” I could feel my hands coming back cold and trembling, for a while the Lieutenant just fell silent at me before finally accepting my helping hand.
“Thanks.”
His voice and touch still made my heart beat violently, and again making my throat choked made me pull my hand from his grasp and face Mamah.
“Kekey, must go home now.”
“Lho, why? You haven't eaten yet,” said Mas Reihan making me look at him.
“But, Mas, but Pakde pesen earlier that Kekey can not go home at night, because Pakde sama Bude also has an event.”
“Eat first, new also come.”
“Please, Aunt, but I really have to go home just wanted to say hello and say hello from Kak Dimas.”
“You should eat, baby, look! You become skinny gini, must eat it irregular.”
“Later, Mah, Kekey eat at home.”
“You ate here with Mamah huh?"
I looked at Mamah with a bitter smile.O Allah, Mah, Kekey knew Mamah was still very longing! But Kekey can't be here much longer, Kekey's heart hurts too much, Mah?
I wanted to say that, but I couldn't! Until finally Papah patted Mama's shoulders gently making women who had loved me so much like the mother was breathing heavily, then grasping my hands with both hands.
“You promise you won't tell me?”
I nodded with a smile, “Iya, Mah.”
“You should contact Mamah!”
I nodded back while gulping down my rough saliva, trying to ease my neck that had started to choke.
“Do not change your phone number again!”
I laughed while nodding, “Iya.”
“Remember! From the beginning until later only you are Mamah's daughter, understand, baby?”
Mamah cupped my cheeks with both hands and looked at me with teary eyes as if understanding my sadness, making me have to hold back my tears, I nodded with teary eyes. For the last time, Mom hugged me tight.
“Papah will have the driver drive you.”
“No need, Pah, Kekey take a taxi aja.”
“It's night, danger.”
“New hours 8.30.. it's okay, don't worry, Pah.”
“Don't be stubborn, let the driver drive you.”
I was silent to hear the Lieutenant speaking sharply.
“No need,” I said coldly, and I guess everyone looks surprised to see the tension between us.
“Kekey, go home now, later Kekey contact Mamah, promise.” I quickly realized the mistake I had made by showing my emotions in front of the crowd.
“Papah, will take you until you get a taxi,” said Papah made me nod and re-hugged Mamah for the last time.
“Be careful, contact Mamah when you get home.”
I nodded and then I went back to greet Mas Reihan with his parents, I even greeted Widy and the Lieutenant even though after that my heart was again felt in a stab. While embracing Papah's arm I left the place.
We fell silent as we walked through some of the mansions on our left right and the palm trees that decorated the streets towards the highway.
“It must be very heavy... isn't it?”
I just kept walking under the street lights, my hand still holding Papah's arm.
I looked at our feet that were walking down the street, and again my throat was choked to hear Papah's words.
“We were very disappointed when Yudha came and told us that there had been another woman among you.”
My heart ached again when reminded of that betrayal.
“But, he has a reason, dear..it is not because he does not love you, believe me it is not because of that.. For him you keep his true love, Papah can make sure it.”.
“But still whatever the reason he's betrayed Kekey, Pah.”
Papah was speechless then nodded, “You were right, sorry Papah shouldn't have said that.”
“No, Papah is not wrong of anything, do not apologize, Pah.. This is between me and.. him.” I couldn't even say her name, made Papah look at me and stroke my head lovingly.
“You must be happy, dear.. move on with your life, fill it with happiness, do not fall because of the past.”.
“It was not easy, Pah, every Kekey almost forgot him, he was always present as if God did not want Kekey to forget him… Kekey doesn't know that he's going to get engaged to another woman so soon, and Kekey? Kekey's heart still hurts, Pah! It's only been a few months from our separation, but now she's engaged to another woman..This is not fair, Pah, it's not fair at all!”.
My emotions that had been stifled were now spilling over, I did not care anymore when the tears were now rushing down my cheeks.
“What exactly is wrong Kekey, pah? He didn't even tell Kekey what was wrong until he betrayed him like that! Was Kekey cheating when he was on duty outside or in Palembang or when he was training? No, Pah! Kekey was foolishly faithful.wait, wait and wait! Even when he started to stay away from Kekey, Kekey still thought... Mas Yudha must have been busy to not be able to reply to Kekey's message, Mas Yudha must have been sleeping and too tired even to pick up Kekey's phone, Mas Yudha must have forgotten to ngabarin Kekey! That was what Kekey thought until he finally came and Kekey foolishly greeted him with a big smile from being happy, Kekey even ran straight into his arms because he missed him so much! But, Papah knows what he's doing? He let go of Kekey's embrace and apologized for having to break off our relationship, and it was because of another woman, Pah! The woman he had only known for a few days and had now become his fiancee! While Kekey.. Kekey who had been faithful waiting for him, Pah, Kekey is not the woman!”
I let out all my emotions all along making Papah pull me into his arms, and my crying became even more so. Papah just silently hugged me while patting my back gently.
That night I shed all the tears that had been held back because I did not want to make my parents worry. All this time I always pretended to be happy and happy in front of my family, even in front of Arga even though he knew how miserable and sad I was. She used to tell me not to hold her, but I would say that crying because of a breakup was stupid, and she gave up.
But that night I spilled it all, I cried like that, until my body feels tired but also feels as if a burden is lifted from my chest making it feel lighter no longer so squeezing the chest that stifles me.
The next day my head felt dizzy and my eyes were swollen from crying too much. Pakde, Bude even my cousin is curious to see me like that, I just said that I am staying up all night watching Korean dramas on the laptop, and that is enough to make them believe.
Fortunately, today was Sunday, so I could rest at home, but around 8 pm Mamah called me and asked me to accompany her shopping before later tonight to return to Bandung. As a result that morning, Mamah and I decided to buy Beringharjo market for batik nyari, continued Malioboro and then last to Jl. Raya Wates to buy bakpia and his friends.
After buying souvenirs Mamah took me to the house of his brother Mamah they lived in Yogya, I was reluctant but Mamah said that the Lieutenant did not exist, he left with his fiancee and did not know when he was coming home.
I gave up and went with Mamah to accompany him until they returned to Bandung later that night using KA, when the clock showed at 4 pm and the house felt quiet, there was only me and Mamah, there was only me, while Papah was having an appointment with his business partner, and the Mamah brothers went to Parangtritis, while Mamah preferred to force me to accompany him around buying souvenirs.
I was laughing with Mamah when I thought someone came out of the room not far from the living room where Mom and I were sitting, and immediately I was silent when I saw the man standing there looking like he just woke up.
“Lho, Mamah thought you were leaving, Yud.”
“So, I overslept,” he replied in a hoarse voice as if throwing me at the time in Sukaso when he just got home from training.
“Kekey, go home now, Mah,” I said as I stood up and picked up the bag, seeing that Mamah looked awfully wrong.
“Sorry but Mamah really doesn't know.” Mama whispered understanding of my sudden change in attitude.
“Nothing,” I said with a smile trying to dispel Mom's guilt.
“You don't have to go, you can stay here.”
I was silent as I took a deep breath when I heard the Lieutenant's words, but I decided not to listen or listen to him as if he wasn't there.
“Kekey, come home yes Mah, Mamah carefully go home to his band, greetings to Papah.”
“Beyond rain!” the Lieutenant shouted a little but I didn't care, I kept walking towards the outside with Mamah walking beside me.
“Sorry can't drive to station.” I could see Mamah going awry as if she had to side with me or her son.
“Iya.. if you go back to Bandung do not forget to contact Mamah yes, Darling.” Mama finally decided to go my way, and I thank her for that.
“Insyaallah.”
“Do not forget to eat, Mamah sad see you skinny gini.”
“Hehehe... Mamah is sad because envy can not I continue?”
“Hahaha..
“Hahaha.. yes already, Kekey home yes, Mah.”
I hugged Mamah when I was on the floor.
“You must be happy, dear, many love you,” Mamah whispered while looking at me gently typical of a mother, making me nod with a smile.
“This is rain, darling, you should wait for the driver to be ushered home, there is also no umbrella.”
“Nothing, Kekey has been used to rain-blow, anyways this is just drizzle, Mah.”
Mamah looked at me for a moment looking doubtful before finally nodding after seeing me who immediately wanted to leave from there.
“Assalamualaikum.”
“Wa’alaikumsalam.”
I just started running when I thought a jacket was covering his head.
“At least wear this so as not to rain.” The Lieutenant put his jacket over my head while he himself stood under the rain which began to rush just wearing shorts and a t-shirt.
Without saying much I immediately took his jacket over my head then gave it back with a slight roughness,
“Necessary!” I said coldly before I finally ran away from the house.
