"Amaya, Auntie is glad you came." Amaya was shocked as Rose approached and clasped her cold hand.
"Tante, sorry ...."
Rose shakes. "You're not wrong. Auntie glad you saw Dave. Now go in and look at him. Auntie hope she'll wake up soon!"
"Tante don't do this!" Amaya notices the woman who approaches Rose and holds her shoulder. "Tante just sit down first or better rest at home, Brother Dave let me take care!"
"No need, Gab! You go home with Aunt Rose. I'll keep Dave here!" sela Adam's. The man looked at Amaya who was silent.
"But I .. okay. If there's anything you tell me!"
"Sure!"
Amaya notices Rose and the woman that Amaya does not yet know her name is going away from her. He saw the woman as if he did not like her presence. Staring with a clear cynical look.
"Don't think. He is so!"
Amaya nodded. "Can I look at Mr Dave?"
"certain. Want me to get company?" Amaya nodded. He did not want to visit Dave alone, it would feel very uncomfortable later. "Come on!"
Amaya lets Adam enter Dave's nursery first. The first time Amaya entered was presented with a sound from an electrocardiograph beside Dave's bed.
"He ...."
"He's pathetic, May! The man who used to bully you now lies helpless. Could this be karma?"
Adam turned to Amaya who kept watching Dave. "Maybe you already know, May, that Dave has been traumatized. He had trouble sleeping after the terrible incident. David died and you moved to school!"
"You know that too?"
Adam chuckled softly. "Why are you so stiff, May? For Dave's problems of course I know. Even he suffered because of you I know!"
Adam faced Amaya and patted her on the shoulder slowly. "It's time for Dave to regain consciousness. I'll wait for you outside!"
"But ...." Not yet he finished talking, Adam had already left him with Dave alone.
Amaya sighed softly and approached Dave. He sat on a chair near the bed and hesitantly clasped Dave's hand.
Amaya did not say anything because she did not know what to say to the man lying in front of her. Amaya only noticed the big hand that could not return her grip.
"Huh, has it really been that hard on your life all this time? I thought your words were nonsense. If so, sleep well and wake up without ever remembering the bad things you've been through!"
Feeling that there was nothing more to say, Amaya chose to leave the room. He looked at Adam who was sitting in the waiting chair while talking to someone on the phone.
"It's over?" Amaya nodded. He looked at Adam who had ended the conversation and stood up. "Wanna talk for a second?"
Amaya looked at Adam Lamat and nodded. "To the hospital canteen how? Maybe we'll have dinner together there!"
"Can!"
Amaya let Adam walk first. He kept watching Adam's wide, strapping back. The two friends have a posture that is not much different, the difference is that Adam is slightly shorter than Dave and has a little curly hair. Different from Dave who has straight hair.
"What message do you want?"
"Tea just warm!" Adam nodded then left Amaya to order food.
Amaya chose a seat in the corner. He recalled back in school, so afraid he was often bullied by other friends because of his fat body, Amaya always chose to sit in the very corner of the canteen so as not to be the center of attention.
"Why sit here?" Amaya looked up, looking at Adam who was carrying a tray of warm tea and food for Adam himself.
"It feels comfortable here!"
"I'll buy you!"
"Thank you!" Amaya picked up her tea glass and sipped slowly. "Is something funny?" amaya asked in surprise as Adam laughed to see her enjoying the warm tea of her order.
"Ah, no. I just realized that for two years we've been at school this time for a table to eat together!" Amaya smiled wryly in response to Adam's words. "Be careful!"
"Can I ask you?"
"certain. Wanna ask what? The cell phone number or shoe number I'm wearing?"
Amaya gawked at Adam's absurd question and clenched her lips and shook her head. "Not that!"
"About Dave. I mean Mr Dave!" Amaya paused for a moment and said, "What did he say right? He once said it was hard to sleep, is that true?"
"Oh, come. You think that kind of a lie?"
Amaya was stunned to see Adam's annoyed look at her. He looked down and said, "Sorry!"
"Eits. I mispronounced. No offense, May. I'm not mad, it's just that your questions are bound to hurt Dave!"
Amaya is still down. He himself felt guilty for having doubted what Dave had said all along. He accompanied Dave out of pity for no reason.
"With that incident, Dave kept having nightmares, May. If he says there have been many psychologists or psychiatrists that he came to it is true. Honey, no one's ever managed to get Dave to stop having nightmares!"
***
Amaya kept thinking about Adam's words. He feels really guilty, so he decides to visit Dave before going to the office.
In front of Dave's nursery, he meets Dave's cousin, who sits alone.
Amaya approached and greeted him. He wanted to prove that what he saw and thought about the woman last night was wrong.
"May, you're finally here!" Amaya frowned confusedly seeing Adam coming out of Dave's ward with a cheerful face. "Come in. Someone is waiting for you!"
Amaya glanced at the woman who was looking at her with a flat expression then turned her face away. He let Adam pull his hand into the room.
"Hi, Amaya!"
Amaya was stunned to hear that voice again. He looked into Dave's already open eyes and subconsciously approached the man. "You're sober?"
"As you can see!"
"Well, what I said. I think Amaya is the cure!"
Amaya looked down at Adam's words. She felt embarrassed, especially in the room there was Rose as well.
"Thank you!" Amaya lifted her head and looked at Rose who clasped her hands tightly and hugged her. "Auntie's happy now that Dave's sober!"
"Aante! What if we go out first. Let them talk together!" Rose took off her embrace. He tidied up Amaya's slightly messy hair then nodded in agreement with Adam's invitation.
Right now there are only two of them and Amaya feels awkward. "Sit here." Amaya complied without any dispute at all.
"Adam told me everything. You came to see me last night!"
"That's because I feel guilty!"
"What now?" Amaya nodded, confirming. "Huh. Not because of worry?"
"Sir!" Amaya becomes confused when Dave looks disappointed. "I'm worried too. In the office no one asked me to deliver coffee every eleven o'clock as usual!"
"You miss it turns out."
"No, Sir. Just feel less just running a routine!" Amaya then returned Dave's deep gaze to her. "What during sleep in the hospital is still a nightmare?"
"Why? You worried?" Amaya nodded. "No. Last night I dreamed of meeting you. You asked me to wake up, May!" Amaya smiled faintly in response to Dave's words just now. "Can't believe?"
"I believe it, sir."
"Oh, yes. Did you have fun yesterday with your fellow secretaries? Are you guys gossiping about us?" Amaya simply nodded as her answer. "And you did it too?"
"Sorry!"
"What are you talking about?"
"Nothing, only they discussed that Mr. Dave was never angry again. But, doesn't anyone know Mr. Dave's being treated?"
"Good then! May, thank you for visiting me!" Dave grabbed Amaya's hand and held her tightly. As the man was about to kiss Amaya's hand, the door to her room was opened. The man was angry.
Amaya smiles faintly at Dave's reaction and takes the opportunity to break away from Dave. "I'm sorry, sir!"
Amaya quickly walked out of the room. He again met the woman he was about to greet, but there was no Rose beside him.
"It looks like you guys are so close! You're Dave's girlfriend?" Amaya stared at the astonished woman in front of him who was staring intently at him, as if considering him an enemy. "Ah, not possible. How could Dave have such ordinary tastes!"
